We can no longer afford the Tories

Our family are Conservative voters and members, the majority tore up their membership cards this year and were unable to vote in the leadership election.

Ms Truss would not have been any of our choices.

As much as I am not a supporter and I appreciate that her economics are not everyone’s cup of tea, the last thing the U.K. needs is another leadership election or general election, both of which leaves the U.K. rudderless for at least 4 weeks., which would be detrimental on so many levels.

I am politically homeless, sick to the gills of political infighting of all parties. Honestly at the point of being totally disengaged with politics at a national level.

It was a choice of the lesser of the two evils though MaizieD, given that they were the final two candidates. So, if you didn’t prefer him, you’re saying you preferred Truss?

I certainly don't want them to replace Kwarteng with Sunak. When they realised Johnson was not a decent human being and certainly not an honest politician, they really didn't have anyone to replace him. We now have the evidence that the well has run dry.

I'm just listening to the latest on Trump. I hope Johnson, Kwarteng and possibly Truss are investigated in the same way.

One or the other was the only choice though, there wasn’t a ‘neither’ option. Let’s hope there will be shortly.

But the country wouldn’t be in the perilous financial position it’s now in. At last what’s happened has brought about the possibility of an early election but look how much people are suffering because of Truss and Kwarteng’s incompetence.

This is the result in of the tories just appointing Brexit supporters and getting rid of the more talented moderates. They narrowed the field to the brown nosers who are incapable of running a market stall, let alone the country.

The Times are leading this morning with the plot by senior Tories to replace Truss with Mordaunt and Sunak, which was mentioned in the Conservative Home yesterday. This cannot be allowed to continue, when your own party are plotting your removal weeks into your appointment. For the good if the country Truss needs to resign.

It’s not about wether Sunak or Kwarteng is right the current crisis is about presentation and credibility. Truss was warned by many that the tax cutting plan was unacceptable, undeterred they went ahead without any budget costing. This was grossly irresponsible and we have seen the result, how can we or anyone else ever trust the pair again.

In my mind the only solution is a new PM and chancellor it’s the only way that confidence will be restored quickly, keep them and the uncertainty continues, a grudging U turn will do nothing to regain confidence.

We cant go on like this!

Remember we were joking about whether Truss would last until Christmas? Hardly believing it would be true. She has lasted barely a couple of weeks.

The Tory party has zero credibility and to try to foist yet another set of PMs/chancellors onto us without a single vote is outrageous.

They've blown it. They have no credibility or authority.

One thing for sure is that the Tufton Street mob have been entirely put into place by the markets that they so revere.

And shown how unpopular their policies of trashing the country are by the population.

Laissez faire does not work in a western democracy.

The problem with Kwarteng is that he has the “market trader” mentality, you make a bad deal, take your losses, lick your wounds and carry on. On a day to day, hour to hour, minute to minute routine, you are desensitized to the consequences, you may have just lost £10m but it’s not your money.

In the real world your decisions have consequences, and the short termism makes him totally unsuitable as chancellor, he can’t U turn and U turn again and maintain confidence.

It was patently obvious listening to the leadership debates that Truss was useless. So, how did we get to where we are now? Most of her MP’s didn’t want her.

I’m wondering how they will get rid of her. I assume she isnt going to resign? So a vote of no confidence? If she loses then what? Can they just ship in any other bod without any form of apparent consensus from the country?

Given that the Tories are totally split how are they going to show a United front for any candidate?

WOW -did Braverman actually walk out?

Yvette Cooper is just brilliant.

The list of failures and Uturns is excruciating. Braverman starts all smiles and quickly can't look up. It's like she had no idea of the scale of her incompetence and failure until someone pointed it out to her.

If this is the level of self knowledge and self awareness within the party then no wonder we are seeing the debacle we are.

I've spent the morning wondering what kind of people the current Conservative membership are to chose the current PM and Chancellor when seems even Tory MPs wouldn't have chosen them. I can come to a conclusion that is kind.
