The BoE has had to step in again to prop up the U.K. economy, because the markets simply do not believe that Kwarteng or Truss know what they are doing. I suspect too, that the OBR report is showing an unfounded gap between spending and resources.
An damning article in Bloomsbury traces the UK’s decline from the time of Brexit to now and it makes for alarming reading.
We can no longer afford Brexit either.
Unless we have a competent government that stops this decline our future is looking bleak indeed.

Labour making progress in Scotland...
Labour is taking votes from the Tories in Scotland. The SNP aren't losing any sleep yet.
Don't know why anybody is surprised at Blackford "bad mouthing" Keir. The SNP is not here to save former Tory voters from themselves.

We’ll have to see what happens in the next few months (or weeks even if the Government in Westminster completely fails, which looks increasingly likely).
The Tories have scraped the bottom of the barrel in electing Truss and she in turn has done the same in appointing Coffey, Kwarteng and Braverman and others. They need a long period in the wilderness to recover. We need a stable government that behaves consistently and sees round corners. Sacking the top Treasury official was plain mad.
It never ends does it?
“Liz Truss’s flagship trade deal with India is on the “verge of collapse” after Indian ministers reacted furiously to comments by Suella Braverman criticising migrants from their country.’

Seems like the main 2 in charge want to go down in history as the 2 to bring Britain to its knees financially !

Starmer is NOT a Tory in disguise. And people who say things like that are just aiding the Tories to remain in power. Keir’s roots are far more socialist than Corbyns. I have total faith in him to make this country decent and fair again.
I totally agree with this.Same here. And continuing to denigrate Keir Starmer with no justification is just adding to the Tories’ belief that the public will support them and all their doings..
Me too.
If the Labour Party refuses to ally behind Starmer, I shall never forgive them. Same if they refuse intelligent alliances, with the Lib Dems and Greens.

The government must bring forward its spending plans and OBR report to this week.
It must bring stability if possible, otherwise it seems to me that things are going to get totally out of control, given that the BoE is ceasing to buy bonds as from Friday.
If the U.K. announced that it was seeking to join the SM and CU the country would bounce back practically overnight.
Another U-turn.
This time on windfall tax.
Seems Truss has had to cave in -again.
The Bank of England has said that it will no longer support pension funds after Friday.
What on earth is going to happen?
That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking. Did you hear Ian Blackford bad mouthing Keir on Channel4 and Sky News the other night. I always thought of Blackford as an ally.

Is ANYONE surprised ,haven't we been saying all of this since the tories got control ,at least the lib dems kept them in check for a while .Then they got freedom to lie, cheat ,rob the UK of anything worth while.AND THEY HAVE !!
Is there anyone who still thinks Corbyn would have been worse? Starmer is a tory in disguise so he'll be no use at all .Good Luck to all the folk who didn't want this and maybe the ones who did vote for the selfservatives should look more closely before marking X next time.

I think there’s some concern about Labour making some headway in Scotland MayBee70, and this was paddyann54s blunt instrument to attempt to rubbish Labour in the same sentence as the Tories.

Kwarteng may have no choice but reverse all his tax cuts before the weekend to stabilise the pound. If that happens I can’t see how he and Truss can survive into next week.

If a general election was called and Labour won…what happens to all the debt? Can we sort of just give it back and say ‘thanks but no thanks’ or are we, and the new Labour government lumbered with it?
Good question.(I'm in the L Party, and have tolerated many within who keep saying, we should say this or that policies etc)
But wisdom says - they will be able to do very little for some time, but try to ameliorate matters, but there is a clear commitment to still trying to make as equal a society as we can, and an acceptance that we live as a society, not as a series of individuals hopeful we might pick up a little of the trickling down effect as we watch the food bank queues grow and waits in A and E turn into whole days.
The scariest thing of all is that Truss and Kwarteng were either so dim - or so manipulated - or so ill advised - that they couldn't have seen this coming.
I truly believe they don't really have a clue. Honestly. they have picked an economic set of ideologies up from a group thats been planning this opportunity for a very long time, and are trying to put them into practice without the abilities - and its now clear, credibility from within their pwn [arty - to carry them through Be very scared.
I was at an NHS Governer's Trust meeting this afternoon. Truly, the mood was grimmer than I've ever seen.
Serious and very bright 30's-40 yr olds people not knowing how they can manage the next 6 months because of the unknowns.

But those who voted for it here will not own it, and are keeping quiet!

I've detested them since the 1980s, not quite half a century, I'm afraid, but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only English person who has felt that for so long...
You don't have to be Scottish to recognise the Tories for what they are. I think that those of us who warned some GN members, those of us who were told we were unpatriotic because we didn't vote for Brexit deserve an apology from a few people on here. You know who you are.
I too am truly frightened of what the future holds, we thought our retirement was going to be comfortable, not lavish, but not now. Yet another Brexit/Johnson/Truss benefit. Thanks.

The IMF has DOWNGRADED the UKs growth.
Kwarteng was lying.
Well there’s a surprise!
We’ve all been going to hell in a handcart, are we there yet?
