Camilla to be crowned.

I was prepared to ignore the coronation, but for Charles to insist that his now wife be crowned is beyond the pale in my opinion.
I realise there are a huge number of royalists on Gransnet but do any of you agree with me that she should not be crowned?

No, you're wrong Nellie123. It said that Camilla, although she would LEGALLY be Queen, might not actually be CALLED Queen. To prevent her actually becoming Queen would need an act of Parliament which clearly hasn't happened therefore she will be Queen! The majority of public opinion,17 years later has changed including that of the late Queen so No need for an act of Parliament or a public vote. She was legally the Princess of Wales but wisely chose not to adopt that title. Charles was divorced at the time of Diana's death,so was NOT legally a widower at this time or the time of his second marriage. Surely to god this is clear!

How very sad.

Many years ago in the last century a prince married a beautiful young girl. This prince and princess had two little boys together, but found marriage to each other very difficult, and despite trying together, the marriage became very painful for them both.

Sadly, both the princess and prince sought comfort and love elsewhere. Whilst the princess enjoyed physical and platonic relationships with several men who fulfilled needs that the prince couldn't meet. The prince in turn rekindled a love affair from his past.

In time the prince and princess were divorced though they jointly cared for their sons.

Tragically the princess died in an accident.

Meanwhile the prince continued his relationship with his mistress going on to marry her in time. This marriage has been extremely successful.

In due course the prince became king, and his wife his consort, both are due to complete the accession of crowning next year, this is the way of our land.

The issue is significant because part of the careful choreography surrounding the quest for public acceptance of Mrs Parker Bowles's position has been a constant denial that she would ever be Queen Camilla, though it is thought that that was Charles's ambition for her.

Exactly!

Today, most of us are concerned that we have a party in government who couldn't run a p***up in a brewery, but for some the burning question of the day is the following:

Do we use the title Queen to refer to the woman who is actually Queen.

You've hit it in one Volver, thank you.
Who gives monkeys that Camilla will be crowned we all know what happened the facts are there if we want to see them.
A far more important issue is that we still have an incompetent running the country and Jeremy Hunt who bug... up the NHS called in to help. You have to question his motives.
What a load of clowns we must look to Russia and China.

Aye, whatever.

It's not worth the effort.

Charles and Camilla got married in the register office on condition she will never become Queen. It was clearly stated. They would not have been allowed to marry if the plan had been for her to be queen along with Charles becoming king. These are the facts, whether or not you like her to be Queen.

What? What are you talking about?

Stated where?

"When Charles and Camilla's engagement was first announced, it was also announced that Camilla will not be called queen if Charles becomes king." news.gallup.com/poll/16363/charles-camilla-royal-controversy.aspx

But Nelli123 it doesn't say anything about them being married in a registry office on condition that she doesn't become queen. In fact it says: But just because she won't be called queen doesn't mean she won't become queen. British law as it currently stands calls for the king's wife to be queen, so if Camilla is to be prevented from becoming queen, parliament will need to change the law.

Seventeen years ago they thought people wouldn't accept her being called Queen. Now we (mostly) don't care what she's called.

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick.

Volver, getting married in a register office is not the point here. That happened because they were both divorced and then had a church blessing afterwards. My point is that the understanding at the time was that Camilla will not be called queen when Charles becomes king. That was to appease people who were against the idea of having a Queen Camilla one day.

Prince William clearly adores her

Really ? Evidence ? Personal acquaintance?

I’m sure he probably likes her but “adores” her ?

Well what if Camilla did love Parker Bowles. Did everyone who has been divorced never love their first partner?
We’re over a quarter of the way there. ?

Someone has been taking the Daily Mail (and other comics of its ilk) too seriously.

Jaberwok Fri 14-Oct-22 16:03:25

Oh dear, there is so much rubbish being talked about in this thread, as if it were fact including this latest offering. Where on earth was it a condition of C & C's marriage that she would never become Queen??!! Proof please.
