I was prepared to ignore the coronation, but for Charles to insist that his now wife be crowned is beyond the pale in my opinion.
I realise there are a huge number of royalists on Gransnet but do any of you agree with me that she should not be crowned?

Charles and Camilla got married in the register office on condition she will never become Queen. It was clearly stated. They would not have been allowed to marry if the plan had been for her to be queen along with Charles becoming king. These are the facts, whether or not you like her to be Queen.

He is going against his mum’s wishers ms he will be anointed and then will be Queen not consort.
He’s always put her first he should never have married Diana

The Queen's mother was Queen Consort to George VI. She was annointed and crowned at her husband's coronation. Queen Elizabeth II wanted the same thing for her daughter-in-law as her mother had- for her to be Queen Consort. That is what Charles is planning. He is NOT going against his mother's wishes.

Of course she should be, she is his wife and has supported him for many years.

Camilla loved Parker Bowles

The king always loved Camilla but was forbidden to marry her. Even then to ‘forbid’ him to marry was so outdated. I believe he married Diana out of duty. Up to the early 20th century the heir to the throne would have done the same but kept his lover as a mistress.
He and Camilla deserve our support, and let’s drag the monarchy into the 21st century

Didn't Camilla get fed up with Charles's dithering and got engaged to Parker-Bowles when C. was abroad on duty? It wasn't so much about "not being allowed" to marry her, but circumstances. She obviously didn't feel strongly enough about him to do that.

Plunger

How many here are divorced? How many have been in unhappy relationships? Let those without sin cast the first stone. Those in glass houses etc etc. Both Charles and Diana had affairs but it appears only Charles is castigated. Diana was no innocent and played the press letting them know in advance where she could be found. She loved the publicity when it suited her. Do you think they both should be trapped and miserable? Camilla has been the making of Charles. It is obvious he is a much happier person since getting together with her and she should be honoured as his wife.

Well said Plunger, Camilla has made Charles a happier man and therefore will be a happier King , Diana milked the press , loved the publicity, they were just not suited to each other, She was there to provide heirs which she did

She has been the Princess of Wales since her marriage to King Charles in 2005. She graciously didn’t use the title.
It was the Queens own wish that Camilla become the Queen consort on her husbands accession. King Charles is not forcing this through. All protocol has been met.
Remember it wasn’t just Charles as fault in the marriage to Diana. Time has past, Camilla has earned the right to be crowned by dint of her hard work for the charities etc she supports, for behaving with decorum and not crowing or complaining and for the unstinting support she has given King Charles and the entire Royal family.
Prince William clearly adores her as did Prince Harry, as do the grandchildren.
Leave her alone

Nelli123 Fri 14-Oct-22 15:41:36

This is exactly what Diana predicted to happen.

I bet she doesn't want to be but it's him doing all the pushing. Poor woman just wanted a quiet country life!

Lilypops Fri 14-Oct-22 15:34:12

Well said villendorf. Put simply , that’s how it is, Camilla has been good for Charles, he is happier, more relaxed, and that’s how it should be in your 70,s ,
Camilla gets on doing her charity work quietly away from cameras ,

Tbh,I think bringing up a PRIVATE conversation between two adults which was leaked into the public domain, to now use as a stick years later to beat these two people with, is nothing short of disgusting. I think many of us have had intimate, private conversations in what we considered to be the safety and privacy of our own homes and would have been outraged and dismayed if these conversations had become the subject of tittletattle in the wider community, both at the time and particularly years later. As you say Volver, why people cannot understand the mechanism of the monarchy is very frustrating! In simple English, a king outranks a Queen, therefore a reigning Queen obviously cannot be outranked by her husband as she would be if he were made King because, you've got it, a King outranks a Queen. This happened with William and Mary. Mary was Queen in her own right, but William insisted on being King and thus outranked her. Sorry, this is probably a bit complicated! In a nutshell it's a question of rank. George 1st wife was left in her native Cells imprisoned in Ahlden House for the rest of her life due to her affair with a Swedish Count and her supposed abandonment of her husband! Poor Sophie Dorothea.

Was Camilla in Buck House the night before the wedding?

Was she one of the guests at dinner that night?

MissAdventure Fri 14-Oct-22 15:03:21

Ah, how romantic.

So Charles BECAME unhappy in his first marriage? Didn’t give it much of a chance did he - being ‘with’ his mistress the night before he married ?

MissAdventure Fri 14-Oct-22 14:53:23

Knickers, tampons.
Still rather unpleasant a conversation to be having with someone else's spouse.
