Vandalism

I have no words for this wanton destruction of one of the most famous paintings in the world.

They have now glued themselves to the floor.

If I was their parent I would be so ashamed

Lock them up and throw away the key.

nanna8 Fri 14-Oct-22 12:45:19

Leave them glued to the floor, that’s where they want to be. No food, water or anything else.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 14-Oct-22 12:46:27

Well, I wouldn’t go that far??, they would definitely be grounded for a good while.

The painting will be cleaned with little problem, so it may be they knew that but have got the publicity they crave.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 14-Oct-22 12:47:32

Blimey we are talking about young women here.

Let’s keep a bit of perspective?. But I’m sure you don’t mean it really.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 14-Oct-22 12:49:26

Sorry Whitewavemark2* these have crossed the ^line as far as I am concerned.

Perhaps our police should adopt the French gendarmerie’s attitude to protesters who glue themselves to surfaces, they just pull them off, which I imagine is extremely painful?

Beautful Fri 14-Oct-22 12:50:25

Disgraceful ... good job they have nothing better to do ... until they are made to pay every penny back ... cleaning up ... cost of policing etc will continue ... hope their families are proud of them NOT ...

Whitewavemark2 Fri 14-Oct-22 12:51:23

We all have different attitudes to material things I guess.

Beautful Fri 14-Oct-22 12:52:55

Wonder if they glue themselves to fixed item ... what do they do if they want the loo !!! Say no more ... no doubt haven't got an ounce of embarrassment

Anniebach Fri 14-Oct-22 12:53:40

They should be prosecuted

I assume you do not recognise the painting or that you have zero interest in the arts?

Zoejory Fri 14-Oct-22 12:55:18

They should just leave them to it. Section it off, no cameras. Fortunately the painting is behind glass so won't have been damaged.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 14-Oct-22 12:57:20

Adding insult to injury, it is tomato soup that they have thrown, more food waste.

GagaJo Fri 14-Oct-22 12:58:29

There is minor damage to the frame but the painting is unharmed. Punishment is needed but this is not an attack on a human being.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 14-Oct-22 12:59:19

? part of my degree looked at fine arts! I can have a deep and meaningful discussion about Van Gogh if you so wish.

But, yes I think their behaviour is unacceptable, yes they will be prosecuted and yes a period of community service would do them a world of good.

But I am mindful that they are young idealists, it has been ever thus.

Sorry Whitewavemark2 I interpreted your earlier posts as if you were in agreement with these young women.

Based on your comment it appears you think vandalism is ok with material things.

It is never ok and the perpetrators should be punished in accordance with the law.

volver Fri 14-Oct-22 13:07:19

I mean, for goodness sake.

Do you really think that the most expensive painting in the world is just plonked there within soup throwing distance of the general public and with no protective measures?

As for "its more food waste."

World's gone mad. It was a tin of soup, not all the grain stores of Ukraine. Get some perspective. ( WWM2, was van Gogh good at perspective?)

should be punished in accordance with the law.

Yes they should. Which doesn't mean leaving them to starve or inflicting physical pain.

Do you really think that these two young women are going to get us all running to join their organisation?

I think not

I am sure the gendarmerie were acting within the parameters of the law.

Yes. We wouldn’t want to deny them the glory of their sticky situation. I suppose they could wriggle out of their clothes for the loo or just lie in their own . . .

volver Fri 14-Oct-22 13:11:56

They don't want us all to join their organisation. They want us to be talking about their protest. Which we're doing.

I don't agree with their methods. I agree they should be punished. I am at a loss as to how often and how dramatically people seem to think every single act of vandalism or public protest is aimed at making you (general you) individually do something different.

Forsythia Fri 14-Oct-22 13:13:44

Let’s hope we are not paying benefits to these individuals. A prison sentence for vandalism is needed.

They think it’s their way only.
