Our local police have had to close this bridge this morning due to protesters climbing up high, endangering themselves and others along with prevent thousands of folks getting to work.

We all know the planet has problems, but disruptive behaviour alienating those who they wish to bring in board to their cause is not the way to go.

noun. click·bait ˈklik-ˌbāt. : something (such as a headline) designed to make readers want to click on a hyperlink especially when the link leads to content of dubious value or interest.

Volver hasn't done that here so I don't understand the accusation. Is there another definition of clickbait that I have been unable to find?

Well don't hold your breath. Had enough of this shit for a while.^

Do it by all means, but never say you are going to do it, it can make it look as if you are sulking.

Oh aye grin You've not got one that differs from the accepted meaning everyone else knows, that's fine. Flouncing off doesn't disguise what you're doing.

Volver no I wouldn't say you post clickbait as per the definition I understand. Still waiting on your definition of a bridge 'jumper'.

Gone are the days where me and a boyfriend pushed his broken down motorbike out of the only tunnel.

It’s amazing when I look at the junction now that it was Dartford council who put up the money to build the first tunnel. It paid for itself in 3 years.

We need the new crossing.

I am sure there are/were plans for another crossing, I can remember people on a new housing development this side (Essex) complaining that they would/will be subject to compulsory purchase when it starts.

It was in the local paper, Evening Echo.

WTAK. She’s right, though, isn’t she?

Like lemsip it's evident that you are completely clueless about what clickbait is.

You may now come up with a description of what you think it is, but as I don't actually post clickbait you would be displaying your ignorance.

Unbelievable.

Monica I mentioned up thread the difficulties there are in Dartford with bridge, tunnel and motorway traffic merging traffic causing huge jams so am Pleased to hear that it has been noticed and looked at by someone looking into things. Or would, if she could have got through the traffic. It’s beyond acceptable.

M0nica Mon 17-Oct-22 18:08:18

I am late to this because I have been at a funeral. Fortunately, I did not need to go near a motorway, but DD, who lives north of the river was caught in the logjam trying to get to an important meeting in Dartford. ironically the meeting was about getting roads flowing more smoothly, whch would, of course, help reduce fuel consumption in all petrol/diesel fuelled vehicles.

Left to myself, I would just leave the protestors where they are until they are prepared to come down. keep the roads running beneath them, just have policemen ready to arrest them when they do come down.

They are where they are as a result of their conscious choice knowing the dangers, a bit like people climbing Mount Everest. You know before you start that your project is dangerous and you might not return alive.

That's not really on is it?

Yes I did.

Did I say they were people thinking of suicide?

What do you mean by 'jumpers' then? You said the bridge could be closed by a 'jumper'. What would that person have been doing or indicating they were proposing to do? I don't know why a bridge would be closed off for Sometimes they fall out of the pub and fall into the river and need to be pulled out by the Lifeboatmen. People have fallen/jumped into the river from London bridges, I've never known one to be closed down while the lifeboat went out to rescue the victim.
Interesting snippet from RNLI : Operating from Lifeboat Pier on the River Thames in central London, Tower Lifeboat is our busiest lifeboat station. Because of the need for even faster response times, there is a crew on station around the clock.

I live next to a London bridge and jumpers is indeed the term for those who take their life by jumping off the bridge.

It's a terrible sight and atmosphere to see all traffic halted, not only on the bridge but along both sides of the Embankment and river traffic. Aside from traffic, people are also cleared from sight and sound, lest they 'encourage' the jumper to jump.

There are kindly signs with phone numbers attached at certain points in the hope that someone desperate will seek help and not jump.

Thanks for telling me what I know GG13. Most helpful.

"Often". Not "Always".

I am sure that you know full well that the term jumpers is often used for those folks who throw themselves off of bridges/high buildings in order to kill themselves.

I'm not the one who is wrong.

Sometimes they fall out of the pub and fall into the river and need to be pulled out by the Lifeboatmen.

Trying to shame me won't work.

So now 'jumpers' are the equivalent of drunks who fall into a river? If you say so. I suppose they do have in common that neither are deliberately inflicting misery on as many people as possible.

Just because you're incapable of feeling shame, doesn't mean you haven't been shamed.

Introduce suicide.

Accuse me of introducing suicide.

Blame me for being shameless.

It's like being in Parliament.

Ohhh, you are big and scary.

And possibly illegal?

What a shame it’s quite warm today with little wind blowing ?

What a nasty comment.

You’ll get no apology from me. I mean every word I say.
I have a foolproof idea but that’s between me and my friends who feel as I do.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 17-Oct-22 16:43:42

Just checked the local weather for overnight, dry, no wind and a low of 7’.

I would t like to be standing underneath these guys, there are no toilet facilities 85 meters in the air strapped to a wire support …
