Liz Truss has not turned up to today’s parliamentary statement by Jeremy Hunt- Penny Mordant is taking question son her behalf. The political commentator on the radio said it’s because she wouldn’t have got through it. Not a good look.

What about PMQs?

She came out from under the desk to attendgrin

MawtheMerrier Thu 20-Oct-22 08:05:26

I reckon she was at the hairdresser. Those highlights look new- or maybe she is going grey? I cannot possibly imagine why.

And who has ‘egg on their faced’

Iam64 Thu 20-Oct-22 07:58:23

Theobird, it’s the discussion, the speculation, that leads to the fact. If people weren’t interested how would they discern fact from fiction? If we waited for Mrs Truss or those around her to give us ‘the facts’ we’d be waiting a long timeframe

And that was a lie from Number 10. Sir Graham Brady was in the chamber of the House of Commons all the time.

Casdon far from it. I am really interested in what is going on. I find surmising a total waste of energy though. I am more interested in fact rather than idle guessing. I see this type of thing too often on here. Then people have egg on their faces 'cos their comments were all wrong. Why can't people just wait and then discuss when they have the facts before them? Shows impatience I suppose. I am an extremely patient person so I chose to wait....

But surely gossip and surmising is what makes the world go round, as Mr Bennet says?
For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours, and laugh at them in our turn?” ...
Life would be immensely dull if we all waited for definitive facts before saying anything about anything. What would be the point of Gransnet then?

Luckyfour...another one surmising. You know nothing of what the reason was. Seems you are also an expert on facial expressions. I find this thread quite amusing....hahaha

Are you so uninterested in the world around you that you see a lively interest from others in the future of our country as something strange Theoodbird? I’m sorry for you if that’s the case.

How much is PM being paid for not turning up as not competent? What kind of business would survive that, shareholders (MPs) would have person ousted.

She did turn up eventually, pretended it was planned and she was doing something very important, but she looked very sheepish. She needs to resign and give the Tories another chance to sort things out. Otherwise, we'll have a general election which I and many others would very much welcome.

My own - personal - thoughts on the matter of Ms Truss are that as a politician she is out of her depth. A case of more ambition than ability. She doesn’t seem able to think on her feet when being put under pressure by Keir Starmer.

Ms Truss is a person, a human being, and I feel sorry for her. I think she’s being bullied by both the opposition (I know that’s what they’re there for) and her fellow Conservatives who should, I think, be supporting and helping her. I’m not at all sure that yet another PM right now would be good for the country’s stability.

Jeremy Hunt as Treasurer was a big surprise given his track record as Secretary of State for Health where he got so many people’s backs up it was embarrassing. Therese Coffee as Deputy P.M? Well, not sure she’s up to the job either. I believe Professor Whitty has already had to have a quiet word with her about her idea of being able to buy antibiotics OTC.

Before you open fire, this is just my own, personal and very humble opinion

(Coffee, yes, you read that right!)

She needs to hang on for 2 months so that she gets a massive pay-off.

Maremia Wed 19-Oct-22 13:06:46

And now she's back at PMQs, all fired up and fighting fit. Well, she does have a lot to lose. If she goes too soon, she won't get to spend Christmas at Chequers. Think of all the photo ops there.
Basing this opinion on the spat she had with Raab, about a grace and favour mansion they both had a 'right' to use.

Theoddbird Wed 19-Oct-22 12:47:51

All this surmusing. Why can't people just wait and sees what happens?

Gwenisgreat1 Wed 19-Oct-22 11:35:02

They should have left well alone and left Boris to while arranging another GE

Jess20 Wed 19-Oct-22 11:27:50

If it was me (and it wouldn't ever be as I'm not that out of touch with reality) I'd be having a quiet breakdown and not be able to get there. From that perspective I feel sad for her as a person but not as a politician.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 17-Oct-22 19:06:11

Apparently she wasn’t with Brady. I’m going to ignore everything now.

Zoejory Mon 17-Oct-22 18:41:55

The heating allowance will be under review in April. Possibly trying to ensure the money goes to those in actual need rather than everyone. Which is a good idea. In my opinion

Wyllow3 Mon 17-Oct-22 18:33:56

What I want to know is this:

now we've waited all summer to get ..just more austerity after all...and hikes in our mortgage rates (yes, I had to sign a sudden high deal)

they have made clear today specifically there will be public spending cuts.

WHERE WILL THEY FALL?

The NHS?
Care Services?
Benefits.

And remember, we have LOST the two year energy relief, it has gone back to 6 months

ie a price hike in the spring is now coming!!!

MayBee70 Mon 17-Oct-22 18:17:45

Freudian slip! He is a bit of a grim reaper figure isn’t he!

Whitewavemark2 Mon 17-Oct-22 18:13:04

Oh God ,, I say that EVERY TIME?

RichmondPark1 Mon 17-Oct-22 18:11:39

Sir Graham Brady?

Whitewavemark2 Mon 17-Oct-22 18:06:25

So it seems she was with Ian Brady. I bet he has received an overwhelming number of no confidence letters.

Zoejory Mon 17-Oct-22 17:45:42

Fleeting visit. I think she's toast
