My local MP is Kwasi Kwarteng. Nuff said? ?

I'd really like it if they used to keep the Triple Lock to try and bribe us all. Wouldn't make a lot of difference to my voting as my local MP is not running next time so I'll have to have a serious look at whoever is before I decide. I have never in all the times I have voted, voted for the party I have always voted for the candidate. My history teacher at school explained that that's how our elections were originally supposed to be, as that should (LOL) provide a varied Government. However, as the years have gone on, they all want a large majority so they can "rule".

SillyNanny123, same here - not easy to manage on just the state pension, is it? It infuriates me when journalists and politicians talk about how it's "unsustainable" and "not fair to the young." If they think that the state pension is so generous, they should try living on it for a year, instead of their current salaries.

And if they want to help to relieve the problems of the young - and everyone else! - maybe they should look at other sources of revenue, such as taxing non-doms, imposing windfall taxes on profiteers like the energy companies, or closing all the loopholes which enable tax avoidance schemes.

The government could also try to do a better job of looking after the money they've already got, such as the billions they squandered during the pandemic on stuff that didn't work.

The young man you mentioned should remember that the way that pensioners are treated now sets a precedent for how they'll be treated in future. The young who complain today about their taxes paying for our pensions are undoubtedly going to want the young of tomorrow to pay for their's. If the state pension is allowed to slip lower and lower in value, it will be worth practically nothing by the time that today's young have become tomorrow's old.

growstuff- absolutely right: the government would be foolish indeed to alienate the group most likely to keep them clinging on to power. Remember, pensioners, the rise this year was well below inflation. If this continues year on year, our children will collect a sum which may purchase them a chocolate bar and four second class stamps.

No one cares anymore about the pensioners who need the triple lock to stay in place! We are dispensable, a drain on society & need to find a hole to crawl in & hide till we die to make room for the younger who do not accept that we are not all exceedingly well off! All older people have had everything given to them to enable them to own their own houses, have a private pension yet still collect a pension paid for by the younger people who seem so very jealous of anyone over 60! When did this happen for someone like myself please? I must have blinked & missed it! This is part of a lecture I was given by a younger man who had committed some indiscretion (his words) & was having to do unpaid work as a punishment! He ended up at the charity shop I volunteered in at the time! He was very adamant that all people over 60 had led a good life with everything given to them & now lived off the hard work (which he did not do) of the younger people! He was put in his place in no uncertain terms by one of our colleagues & stopped working in our shop thankfully! I do not now own my own home, live in rented property & had been hoping the triple lock would be back in place but not now holding my breath!

All change again now Truss has gone so who knows what’s coming next. If it’s Boris he might provide pensioner busses for us all to ride round in and keep warm, I remember his crass comments about, asLondon Mayor, his transport policy made it possible for an old lady riding the bus all day to save on her heating. Unbelievable he’s a front runner for next PM

The Conservatives have alienated just about every other interest group (apart from the stinking rich), so I can't really see them throwing away the pensioner vote.

I see a U turn on the horizon. The £ has fallen another % amidst the continued confusion and uncertainty.

Truss's commitment to the triple lock is worthless now she has resigned (good riddance). I doubt a manifesto commitment would withstand present economic problems. When Macmillan was once asked what had changed he replied, 'Events, dear boy, events' and we have had a lot of 'events' thanks to the reckless policies of Truss and Kwarteng.

I think she had agreed it with Hunt. He was nodding when she announced it.

This is how untruths spread on the internet.

Like I said I fell foul and posted a tweet from what I thought was a genuine account on GN recently, as soon as it was pointed out to me that it was a parody account I asked GN to delete my post so as not to cause any confusion or spread an untruth.

Sorry gg it isn’t something that I get terribly hot under the collar about.

It was the sentiment in the comment I thought was worth mentioning, and something many pensioners would recognise.

I am not hot under the collar WW this parody account is harmless, unfortunately some aren’t and cause distress and the repetition of untruths.

I follow it as I find it comical.
