Why on earth was Boris on holiday?

he can't know much about what the country is going through if he lives abroad the whole time on holiday . Who does his surgeries or is he like my MP and doesn't actually do them?

and I don't hate him but I work really hard, as do lots of people in this country and I get paid very little even though I care about the people for and work with. What is the point of him>

I just get fed up with people analysing any policitician's wealth all the time .... how much their house is worth, how much their holiday costs, how much they paid for their smart shoes, whether they drink expensive wine etc etc. Some people have the money, let them afford these things, and try concentrate more on their competency to lead and govern.

Of course Mp's finances should be open to scrutiny whilst they are in office, in fact the higher the office, the tighter that scrutiny needs to be. I'm shocked that anyone would think otherwise.

Johnson was on a series of holidays because he can't be bothered doing the job as an an MP which he is being paid for.

He is very lazy and likes being on holiday and either did not look at the job description for an MP or thinks the rules do not apply to him, as was pointed out to his father by his teacher.

Just unbelievable comment. It has been clearly proven that Johnson has had holidays, home decor, and lots of other things, paid for by dodgy donors, in exchange for 'services'. Of course it is important that this is scrutinised.

I have many friends and close relatives who live in mansions, have yachts, and very expensive holidays and private schools, etc- but I know that they have not acquired those through fraud, due to their high ranking politician status!

Including, of course, Russian oligarchs who are supporters of Putin.

Johnson was on 'holiday' to take advantage of a lucrative side hustle.

Local Dominican Republic news sites reported that Johnson arrived at Punta Cana on October 7th, left on the 10th to travel to Washington and returned to the Dominican Republic on 12th October.

He was in the USA to give a speech and 'fireside chat' to the Insurance Leadership Forum. On 12th October The Daily Telegraph reported that he was paid £316,014 for appearing at the event.

Whilst he was on holiday and earning twice the PM's annual salary for one speech, parliament was sitting, the cost of living crisis was deepening, the pound was plummeting against the dollar and Johnson's constituents were not represented.

This man could be our next PM.

Of course it is right that dodgy donations should be investigated, as should disregard for the rules.
But Boris owns a property in Oxford which he lets for nearly £5k a week plus he sold his London home for £3.8million in 2019. I don't think that paying for a fortnight's holiday will render him penniless nor be a reason to automatically believe he might have broken the ministerial code. He, Rishi, Hunt, Rees-Mogg etc have plenty of money of their own which is none of anybody's business.

I think we can question morally whether they have been dismantling the NHS and social care system over the last 12 years? whether they have been implemental and whether decisions they have made within their political sphere have benefited them personally or more widely, financially

I’m amazed so many people are unaware of the laws relating to members’ income and expenditure, especially with regard to income from external sources. Yes, their finances are under scrutiny, and rightly so. They are, or should be, completely transparent and they should not be hiding any gifts or loans.

You can all stop worrying as according to the political editor of The Times Mr Johnson has pulled out of the leadership election.

He’s not standing! Oh well, he can b****r off back on holiday. He isn’t even being honest about not getting enough support! I bet he just wanted to be in the limelight again.

Good move. But I'll still watch this space in the future.
