He spent most of the Summer with his family in Greece and in Slovenia- when he was still PM, and in a crisis.
But then we could argue Parliament was in recess...
But last couple of weeks? He is still MP for UXbridge, and paid for it. He should therefore have been in his Constituency, doing his job, serving his Consituents, and representing them in the House. How can this be allowed?
He’s not standing! Oh well, he can b****r off back on holiday. He isn’t even being honest about not getting enough support! I bet he just wanted to be in the limelight again.
But he's supposed to be at work. He's still an MP so he's skiving.
OK, I doubt that this was his reason, but holidays in the Caribbean are usually quite a bit cheaper in October and November, than in winter or during the summer holidays. And the sea’s still lovely and warm. Downside is Hurricane Season, but then Boris brings his own personal hurricane, metaphorically speaking, whatever the season.
Johnson was “in a privately owned villa on a property” at the Dominican Republic resort, although they didn’t say who the owner was. According to one report, a four-bedroom villa at the destination would cost over $2,800 a night over the weekend.''
Of course Johnson should be at work (or at least a 'work event'). Just another of those 'skivers' some Tories are keen to talk about. Sunak looks like a striver so I hope he fills the gap well before the next Labour government.
The comments on here are horrendous. All anyone is doing is speculating about things they don’t have the answer to but the man is already guilty and thrown in chains by your comments.
Is this the only politician who may have done something to feather his nest? NO, not by a long way. Let’s not forget how Tony Blair and his wife ended up as probably the richest Labour leader ever, his wife buying flats etc.….But let’s not bring that up because it doesn’t fit with our Boris bashing agenda. I know of a very prominent member of the Labour Party who is tipped for the top. He has managed to amass a huge private fortune whilst doing his current position. Favours for his wife’s company, giving them huge contracts that are paid for from the public purse. Sales of buildings to friends that are now blocks of ugly flats.
They are almost all at it regardless of the party they represent.

I'm sorry, but I thought that tory voters applauded aspiration and acquiring wealth. I'm puzzled that it seems to be a Bad Thing when Labour politicians do it...
Personally, I would not look for a good work ethic from Boris Johnson, but that said, I presume that members of Parliament like most employees can arrange to take a holiday outwith normal holiday periods if for any reason they have not been able to do so at the usual time, or for health reasons .
Given these possiblities, I would imagine dear Boris found someone to write him a sick-note.
I’m pretty sure that Blair has devoted his life to doing good things since he was PM. Is there a problem that he’s made lots of money, too. At least he didn’t make a fortune selling cigarettes to third world countries like Thatcher did. I’m sure Iraq haunts him.
Wow, keyboard warrior trolls on the attack because they don’t like what you say. Gransnet is just a platform now for pure nastiness, not just political either it is literally on every thread.
Either you don't know what an internet troll is or you are a very nasty person. Calling people "trolls" is not on.
Given the wealth of all previous prime ministers, why is a pension in excess of £100k for life considered necessary? Should it not be means tested? It’s costing taxpayers £600k plus a year ….
Most MPs are not interested in their constituencies. They have a long summer recess during which they should take an interest in those who voted them in. They only sit in the House if there is a subject that is of interest to them.

So, honest question. Do you believe that MPs should be allowed to be on holiday permanently? I mean since July 4th, is quite some time.
I'm not sure I agree with your post Bijou. Some MPs aren't interested in their constituencies, I'm sure that's true. But it's unfair to tar every MP with the same brush. Many - probably most - of them are good constituency MPs, but we never hear about those ones.
My MP is not from the party I voted for, but she is a good constituency MP.
