This now leaves the field free for Rishi Sunak to our next Prime Mjnister.

Don't know if this has been mentioned but Rishi openly admits to taking money from deprived areas for the poor folk of Tunbridge Wells

I suspect Boris is playing the electorate again. Good bloke came back to try and lead the country again, stepped down for party unity. Got us through covid and Brexit but didn't get the credit. Just because he's a bit of a lad.
Not my view but I can imagine in 2 years time his halo will be polished up and ready for a GE. Meantime Sunak can try and sort out the economy and take the blame.
It might not be 2 years it might be 7 years. With a brief spell of Labour in power. But I fear he will be back .

Quotes from Rishi Sunak this summer -
"Lefty lawyers."
"I strongly believe that the answer to increasing the number of workers is being much tougher on our welfare system."
"We have a problem with human rights law in this country which is making it difficult to achieve our objectives."

I wonder which human rights law he means.

The furlough scheme was both generous and necessary.
A country is the people in it.
Hopefully it will be announced that Rishi Sunak is the new PM later today, instead of waiting all week.

I agree. I have no doubt a few people played the system (people always do), but the country would have been in an even bigger mess without it.

Boris came back to mischief make. He's a disturber of the peace. And of course he can bask in all the news coverage.

luluaugust Mon 24-Oct-22 09:59:52

Well Boris has got himself lots of publicity for the book he is trying to finish and apparently lots of speaking engagements books. All publicity is good publicity?!

Thank goodness .But I bet Nadine is upset.

Thankfully we no longer have to witness her drooling with wanting eyes at , the man of her dreams??

growstuff Mon 24-Oct-22 09:20:14

Ahem! In what way was the furlough scheme "over generous"? It seems Johnson might not have been 100% accurate when he claimed that the UK's furlough scheme was “far more generous… than anything provided in France, Germany or Ireland”.

He’s not the messiah, he’s a very naughty boy.

Totally the wrong word here. It sounds sort fo cuddly/funny- and he is NOT. He is a liar, a cheat, a fraud, a selfish b***ard.

Now go away ???

Urmstongran Mon 24-Oct-22 08:47:26

Nicola Sturgeon will be disappointed. She will still bang the drum railing against nasty Westminster but without the Boris bashing her balloon may feel a bit deflated this morning. I think with Rishi Sunak the Union has a better chance going forward. So, in my opinion, this result is to be welcomed.

I also think it puts added pressure on Rishi Sunak. Being PM at this time will be challenging. We’ve had our personal tax allowances frozen for two years. He’s hit the ordinary man in the street hard and his over generous furlough scheme (higher than anywhere in Europe) has created a huge debt. I’m not sure that he’s a true Tory (low taxes, small state) but all things considered, he probably is the best choice.

Grantanow Mon 24-Oct-22 08:36:20

I suppose he could go back to the Carribbean unless his constituents need him to be in the UK. I think he's only had 4 holidays this year - how dreadful.

I wonder if Uxbridge voters might make a change at the next GE? Asking for a friend, obviously.

Allsorts Mon 24-Oct-22 07:20:48

Agree with Vegansrock, we need a couple of years of stability to get the county on track. Not a fan of Sunak but I think it will be him. Let's have a time of no big dramatics, just get on with the job. Boris will no doubt settle down to write his memoirs. But he will be waiting his chance to get back, now he has had his three Caribbean holidays.

I don’t think that the Tories will now be United though. Sunak is not liked by a big minority.

However, perhaps they will make an effort for the good of the country? We can but hope.

nanna8 Mon 24-Oct-22 06:11:50

Ooohh, that’s a bit harsh vegansrock.

We have had enough of entertainment in politics. I remember being bored with political news. If Sunak doesn’t make the mistakes of Truss and Johnson and does not surround himself with sycophantic followers, but includes both sides of the party in his cabinet, then there is hope for some stability. Otherwise we’ll just limp along from crisis to crisis. I believe there should be a GE now, but know that isn’t going to happen with Johnson out of the race. Anyone who wanted Johnson back must have the same moral compass as him- be a liar and a cheat themselves or be happy to live with one.

A great sense of relief. If Truss showed herself to be the most incompetent PM of my lifetime, Johnson was by a mile the most despicable.

That post saves me saying much else other than with some time this country will cease to be a laughing stock. Then perhaps we will be seen as a credible option to do business with.

What planet are you on *Vegansrock’
He stood aside!!! ???
He didn’t get the numbers yet another lie to add to all his others
The only thing Johnson has ever devoted himself to is Johnson

I think vegansrock was taking the proverbial. ?
