Run out of Romanians to blame?

Start on the Albanians!!!

The local restaurant our family uses weekly is owned by an Albanian, married to a lady from Madeira.

There are good and bad people of all ethnicities.

just because others lived experiences does not fit your narrative doesn’t mean they are not real.

Allsorts Tue 25-Oct-22 21:03:17

I know whatever is done some have fixed ideas and nothing will be right until Tories are out. I am just interested in getting the country on track, not point scoring, I’m not for any side. I will admit to finding Keir slimy, can’t see that changing. I’m just thankful Boris saw the light, what a nightmare that would have been, he didn’t care how much upset itcwoukd have caused. . Let’s just see how it goes, there wont be a general election just to please the other side, dare say K will drone on now for months pleading his case rather than get things on track, he’s like a stuck record and it won’t get him anywhere. No one’s going to put themselves out of work.

Organised criminals in the UK according the the NCA in 2017 (can't find more recent figures quickly but these give a gist)

Albanians 0.8%
British nationals 61.6%
Unknown nationalities 23.5%
Romanians 1.5%
Pakistanis 1.2%
Polish 0.9%

Should we withhold our respect and empathy from all people of all these nations in case they are organised criminals?

MerylStreep I am genuinely sorry if you and yours have suffered at the hands of any criminals or gangs. That is just awful. Not all people are bad though. There are lots of good people from all parts of the world, please don't lose faith in that.

start on the Albanians
You’d have to be a lunatic to take them on ?

Blondiescot Tue 25-Oct-22 20:47:58

First they came for the Romanians, and I did not speak up, for I was not Romanian. Then they came for the Albanians...
Sound familiar?

Mayal
but I do think that everyone should be treated with respect and empathy
Have you met an Albanian drug dealer. Have you lived next door to one. Do you know anyone who was forced to close their business because they upset a gang member.

There are a a lot of good Albanians in our area, unfortunately there is a larger criminal community of Albanians.

Wasn’t there a spate of violence in and around the City High Street over the summer?

Prentice Tue 25-Oct-22 20:32:22

I think, from what I have read and heard, that Albanian gangs have been here in the UK for a very long time, unfortunately.
They do have a reputation for brutality.

We're right off track now, but since we're here...

My husband was born in England, but has lived in Scotland for 50+ years, paid tax here, been educated here, contributed to Scottish society. But he can't call himself Scottish and won't call himself English.

We need to get this sorted smile

Prentice Tue 25-Oct-22 20:25:31

What if you have two Welsh parents but live and work in England? Does that mean you are not considered as Welsh?
Is this the same for Scottish parentage or of Northern Ireland parentage?

Daisymae Tue 25-Oct-22 20:23:09

I think that Sunak is trying to cover all bases. I suspect that this cabinet will be as difficult to manage as herding cats. I doubt that Sunak has the gravitas to manage this lot as well as the disgruntled back benchers. Never a dull moment. GE please

Not so, there are changes.
In any case, the two who really matter have only just come into the jobs, the PM and the Chancellor. It is quite a relief.

A relief from what? hmm

Boris Johnson as PM and recently Liz Truss as PM.

Casdon I'm not disputing that he identifies as Welsh - just being a pedant after seeing (from wiki admittedly) that he's not Welsh-born. I'm more concerned that his politics seem pretty ghastly.

You don’t have to be born in Wales to be Welsh though, with Welsh parents who were in England when you were born but returned to Wales for your upbringing you qualify. If not, my SIL isn’t Welsh either!
His politics are horrible, I totally agree - very right wing. As I said, he won’t get on with our First Minister I’m sure.

David Davies has been confirmed as the new secretary of state for Wales

Oh! Interesting.
He'll be happy!
He is Welsh born and bred, unlike some in the past.

Please tell wiki that it's made a mistake because it claims he was born in London.

David T C Davies - so he was!

Well I never. I thought he was a Newport boy.

Oh, my mistake. There's 2 of them!! Sorry.

David Davis and David Davies

The 'e' is very important. It means it's Welsh!

growstuff Tue 25-Oct-22 20:18:25

IMO it's an appalling government.

The PM's been Chancellor and the Chancellor's been Foreign Secretary. It's just musical chairs.

I think overall the new Cabinet is quite a good one. They just have to get on with it now.
I suspect no Cabinet is ever stuffed with perfect for the job Ministers, of any Party which finds itself in power.
This is certainly an improvement though, in my view. I feel that sensible people are in charge, for the first time in quite a while.

In what way is it an improvement? I'm struggling to see it.

It's all the same people as we've had before who previously mucked things up on an epic scale. How can you consider it's an improvement? An improvement on what?

So Albanian gangsters are welcome here? How weird. Like Maudi I welcome Sue Bravarman. Some immigrants wait months in camps and jump through endless hoops to be admitted legally into this country. How unfair it is that people can jump the queue by crossing the channel, escorted by the French and the UK, in order to get here while others wait years. Hope she can do something to stem the flow.

Wanting fair, timely and humane immigration policies and processes really isn't the same thing as saying gangsters are welcome here.

If the UK had a functioning and properly-resourced immigration system, it wouldn't take long to identify the gangsters anyway.

PS. Any idea how many asylum seekers are Albanian, let alone gangsters?
