Braverman's behaviour in parliament today proves nothing has changed.

Suella Braverman scuttling out of the commons today to avoid scrutiny is a clear indication that nothing has changed with the Tories. The question from Yvette Cooper was tabled in plenty of time so she has no excuses. The fact that she walked out in full view of the speaker doesn't enhance his reputation either.

I hope she goes. She is a thoroughly nasty and manipulative person. From the BJ administration willing to break law, manipulate. she is seriously scary and her connections in the ERG I believe going to lead us into attitudes that do not care for those in greatest need, our own deprived, disabled and sick.

Yes, I do recognise there are massive problems but I don't want Braverman solutions.

She is openly appealing to the worst anti-immigration feelings in the public. the backlog of asylum seekers have been accruing for years and years of inadequate processing as well as the total lack of being able to fast forward those who come who are trained in the very skills we need in our work force.

Maybe she is useful to Sunak for a bit as she can be the convenient "baddie" to do the dirty work.

Her fluent French is totally irrelevant. Macron speaks English and interpreters are always available. It’s what she says and does that matters not the language spoken.

Casdon Mon 31-Oct-22 19:33:40

It’s no use Suella Braverman speaking French if she doesn’t speak sense, and she isn’t capable of doing that. She won’t be in post long enough to make any difference, hoist by her own petard.

Suella Braverman had the opportunity to study in France as an Erasmus student, an opportunity denied to our children and grandchildren because of the disastrous brexit the she and her fellow ultra right wing ERG members promoted.

From twitter:

Feel furious to hear that ... Braverman speaks fluent French after benefitting from studying in France on the Erasmus Scheme which she & her horrible Brexit have prevented our children & grandchildren from doing.

My last post was in reply to varian.

It's appalling. The worst is that it didn't need to be like this. There is a problem worldwide, and we have to to talk to other European countries to find solutions.

People may say Sunak should not have employed Braverman, but he won't have to sack her; she is working very hard at sacking herself. The irrational right is still trying to appeal to the brainless popularity trolls who are only at home on social media, but it will change.

Urmstongran Mon 31-Oct-22 19:22:49

Suella Braverman speaks fluent French. I’m hoping she and Macron and can work together well. Something different needs to be worked out because the present system is spinning out of control. I feel sorry for anyone living in Kent bearing the brunt of all this mismanagement.

At almost £7 million per DAY housing and sifting through the migrant claims I bet the average taxpayer hopes for a workable solution soon.

How did we ever get to this point? It’s crazy. We’ve become pretty much immune to the numbers now when we watch the rubber dinghies arriving daily. We seem powerless as a country to get a grip.

Tory MP sir Roger Gale tells the truth about Manston

Bias bias

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 31-Oct-22 18:49:23

I watched the debate too with Ms Braverman. I knew she’d blame Labour at some point, even though the Tories have been power for 12 years. Then when I thought it couldn’t get any worse, up popped the lunatic right wing swivel-eyed fringe. Chope etc. These are the bunch who Sunak had to appease to become PM. One thing I have always found disturbing about Braverman is the fact she can’t seem to distinguish between economic migrants (Albanians) and those fleeing from war torn countries (Syria, Afghanistan). The woman has no empathy or humanity.

Surely, since the letter was sent to a retirement/care home (I'm making an assumption from the name} then it should have been addressed to the Director/Manager of said facility and not to the individual residents.

It is not a retirement/care home. It was a block of Independent Living flats. You can be anything from 55/60 upwards to live in these flats. Couples, men, women and a proportion of older (80?) live in them. The whole point is you can and do live in them "independently". I asked Granny Gravy if she knew the flats because she seemed to be painting this same biased way. It has suited people to paint them as elderly and frail, but I bet they aren't. Who thinks of 60 as elderly these days? Why can't they dial 999?

I imagine all this nonsense has achieved is the loss of some poor person's job. Bais destroys lives.

MayBee70 Mon 31-Oct-22 18:41:23

…and didn’t they tell us that brexit would solve this problem?

MayBee70 Mon 31-Oct-22 18:40:02

And just as I was thinking about him up speaks Peter Bone. The way that some of these Conservative MP’s speak about asylum seekers just sums them up. There is a problem, we all know that. But the vitriol from the government benches is stomach turning.

Redwood is a horrible horrible person.

Yes Redwood is a nasty bitter man who obviously has never got over failing to make it as PM. I was incensed by his announcement that he was speaking for all the people of Britain. Not speaking for me, pal.

Just read this online:

The letter, sent by an 'independent living manager' to tenants of the Sunny Corner home, has since been withdrawn after it was deemed to be "poorly communicated".

Good! The person who wrote it was stirring up fear.

It was sent by the manager of the retirement complex on council notepaper. It's unprofessional and badly written. All it's done is create fear.

Just watching Braverman in HoC at the moment. Sitting there with her minders Jenrick and Baker whispering in her ear. John Redwood standing up and making a complete arse of himself.

Wyllow3 Mon 31-Oct-22 17:44:45

(Just a footnote re "Albanians" as we are still waiting to see the debate around Braverman finish - there IS ethnic tension in the area, some confusions around Kosovans and Albanians
I couldn't find a more up to date reference than this, but just to add a ?? to any assumption that no "Albanians" may need asylum.

Roger Gale, ( Conservative) MP for Thanet North, has been very clear that the problems at Manston are directly the result of decisions taken by the Home Secretary. He is a man of integrity. He probably feels a little lonely in his party just now.

HousePlantQueen Mon 31-Oct-22 17:29:22

I am in despair at what Braverman is doing and even more so at those people who support her.

I suspect her appointment was forced upon Sunak as a 'condition' of his being appointed PM, the ERG are a powerful group, and as we can see on a regrettable number of posts on here, they know which buttons to push, which stories to get out there to get people hating the 'others'. Not a lot different from all those stories in the 1930s about 'dirty Jews' manipulating the economy. My theory, for what it's worth, is that Braverman is letting this situation with migrants and asylum seekers build up as a massive powder keg until their is civil unrest and bloodshed. Then we can read all the Daily Mail and Express headlines, and listen to the unedifying 'told you so' from their supporters.

This vile administration was offered, by Macron, the opportunity to process applications in France, but it was turned down. We need to deal with these people quickly and efficiently, get them working and contributing if applicable, and sort out fast returns/deportations for Albanians with no reason to seek asylum. It's quite simple really.

Rightly so.

Let’s hope that the damage that this may or may not have caused can be rectified.
