Seems like the DUP is prepared to scupper the country for their principles. And in the process, ensuring that re-unification will happen much quicker than expected.

The weirdest thing about this is that NI is the only part of the UK that is currently thriving! As they still have unfettered access to and from EU.

The NI folk (especially business people but except for the minority who vote DUP) are the only British people who have benefitted from brexit.

They currently have unfettered access to the UK market and the EU market and so businesses are thriving.

The majority of NI voters voted remain yet the minority supporting the DUP have been instrumental in taking us all out of the EU.

I hope they have another Stormont election and the progressive parties, especially the cross-community Alliance Party , wipe the floor with the DUP.

Same here. But can't the DUP see they are signing their own demise, and pushing people towards reunification?

They are dinosaurs, against everything. Most people hate them but they will probably have enough support from their base to get back in. Also influenced a lot by drug lords and paramilitary threats. No brains, just Google some of their MPs.

It may be the first time in history that a major political party obstructs the government because the people it represents want to be worse off than they are.

Nope ,that happened here in 2014! Look where we are now...not in the EU as promised and all the other "vows" were non starters too.Well done those Union Flag wavers .

DUP dinosaurs yes but the mess about the EU border is entirely one of Johnson's making. I recall his saying there would be no border in the Irish Sea and no customs checks. In fact he said if anyone was given a customs declaration to complete they should send it him and he would chuck it in the bin. Johnson signed up to the current arrangement and it is going to be very difficult to change it to satisfy the DUP without repudiating that part of the Brexit treaty. I can't see another NI election changing any of that.

You've hit the nail on the headGrantanow

The Northern Ireland problem has turned out exactly as predicted by what the Leave liars described as "project fear"
