If you had to choose the Prime Minister from among the Gransnet posters, who would you choose?

Would you choose that poster based on personality or on political persuasion?

BlueBelle Tue 01-Nov-22 19:03:22

Ohh I just got a vote how wonderful xx

Anniel Tue 01-Nov-22 18:41:08

Monica is a fair and balanced poster who has common sense. So she has my confidence.

She is not receiving pms

Thanks - I was going to PM her. It's always worrying when a regular stops posting.

Bixiboo Mon 31-Oct-22 23:02:27

MissAdventure gets my vote. She comes over as knowledgeable, savvy, has lots of common sense and a great sense of humour.

Sago

DutchDoll I think you mean GermanShepherdsMum I hope she is OK, not seen her post for a while.

I was wondering if she was OK, too. Hope she's just having a break from GN.

Callistemon21 Mon 31-Oct-22 20:48:44

Just to be absolutely sure Germanshepherdsmum
I haven't seen her post recently either.

Another poster started a thread yesterday with a very similar name which was confusing.

Order, order!!

Oh, I could take to this!! Needs more spice though 😉

DutchDoll Mon 31-Oct-22 19:18:23

Sorry, I can't remember her nom de plume but she was/ is a solicitor and always talks sense.
Otherwise M0nica or Dickens and maybe Volver would spice things up a bit!😊🥳👍

I’m sitting here waiting for the name of my favoured one to come up because I can’t remember!! So - MaizieD or Volver or MawtheMerrier. And anyone else who would ban the sale of fireworks to individuals.

And anyone else who would ban the sale of fireworks to individuals.

I'm with you (I also love to watch Irish Dancing smile).

It's a bit of a spin of the coin for me - MOnica (such a level head) and MaizieD - a practical head and an understanding of how an economy can / could be run for the benefit of society as a whole. volver would be a good Speaker (but she also has other qualifications) - and I'm always impressed with Maw. There are others...

Fireworks - at this time of the year, such a pain for so many, especially those with pets and babies - or those who are acutely ill or suffering from dementia, not to mention perhaps families with autistic children.
Where I live, it seems there's always someone who's discovered a couple of fireworks left in the bottom of the box in the kitchen around 1.30 in the morning on Bonfire Night; then another family who decide to have their firework display the night before, or the night after - or even the following weekend.

But, as a child, I loved them. Perhaps I'm just an old kill-joy.

Oh dear, I’m back on the fence then Dickens since you don’t want the job. Can’t say I blame you really. Who would want it? Good job there people who are egocentrical enough to want it, because really, when you think about it, anyone who actually wants the job of PM must have an absolutely huge ego. I can’t help thinking our Gransnetters would make a mulch better job of it all than those who really do hold the job (I’m not pointing at anyone in particular here, just the whole blooming lot of them.)

For 2 nights a year, midnight is fine, 1am on New Years- and basta!

springishere Mon 31-Oct-22 15:59:03

Oh dear! My neck's on the block here, as I don't look at the names. I only read the comments.

kittylester Mon 31-Oct-22 15:55:01

Coo FleurPepper midnight is a bit late - could we say 9.30?

Merryweather Mon 31-Oct-22 15:48:51

Okay Dickens since you want me to get off the fence, I’ll nominate you. And Callistemon as Speaker, as that’s a job she wants. However, I’m not even nominating myself as a back bencher grin

blush

You might not be so keen - I'd want a coalition government (highly unpopular), and definitely no hard right or left (sorry biglouis).

But, who'd really want the job amid a global recession, the looming threat from Putin, Covid (it's not a thing of the past, yet) and the doldrums of Brexit?

I believe the biggest worry / issue for most now is the economy - on that hangs everything else. But, goodness me, what a job, there is no quick-fix is there? Going back before 2016 and, erm, that vote, we were in an economic pickle... productivity problems, huge reliance on the financial sector, and a shortage / deficiency in training and skills. I don't know how much % GDP we're losing... can't even bring myself to look at Moody’s and S&P's ratings. Yikes!

Thanks for the nomination, I'm taking myself out of the race (I wouldn't have enough backers anyway LOL), I am simply - and this is not a humble-brag - not clever enough for the job. Although I don't think I'd be quite as bad as poor Liz Truss, and I certainly would ban myself from ever using the word "deliver", mostly, because I couldn't deliver anything grin. I've got lots of idealistic ideas about a fairer society for everyone which look good on paper and are easy to spout, but the reality is a completely different kettle of fish.

You can get back on the fence maddyone, it's probably the best place to be at the moment. I'll join you.

Can we have fireworks on other significant occasions like Diwali

Yes, of course! 🙂

Dickens Mon 31-Oct-22 13:55:33

Callistemon21

Yes, but Dickens, if Gransnetters took charge then the majority would be women.

Although I'll nominate grumppa for Home Secretary 😀

... true - we could take over the whole benches - Opposition included.

With the combined knowledge, various skills, wisdom and the 'been-there-done-that' life experiences, GN members might just do a better job for the whole nation.

NanKate Mon 31-Oct-22 13:43:57

Doodledog for me. She has a great way with words. 👍
