Just read the following.

To claim asylum in the UK, a person must be IN the UK

It is not possible to apply from outside the country, and there is no asylum visa to enable people to travel to the UK legally to apply for asylum.”

Can this be right?

The reason people on the Kent coast cannot afford housing is to do with people in London buying second homes

Iam64 Mon 07-Nov-22 21:22:00

Yes NotSpaghetti, that’s my experience, that the majority of people from Albania who go to other European countries, work hard and pay taxes.
Of course some Albanians will be crooks, just as there are crooks in every other nationality.

JaneJ is correct about the way house prices along the south coast have been inflated by second home ownership

Still, let’s not let reality get in the way of demonising an entire nation, rather than accept 12 years of Tory misrule has led us to a place where our Home Secretary presents as a heartless, dishonest incompetent

Or even first homes because people can't afford London prices and parts of Kent have become trendy.

i wonder what kind of ID will be required to be produced in order to apply for the voter card...

Interesting question!

The bill was introduced into parliament by my MP, so maybe I'll ask her.

MaizieD Mon 07-Nov-22 22:41:21

Well, they're not accepting student cards for a start. I have read that bus passes will be OK.

Because, of course, students cheat and lie and OAPs don't...

12 May 2021Although Albania is not currently a part of the European Union, Albanian citizens can travel without a visa to all EU member states. This will not change in the future, EU officials have confirmed. ... Albanian nationals have been able to cross an external EU border using just a valid passport and stay for up to 90 days. copied

So if Albanians are allowed to travel to EU member states why are they paying illegal smuggler gangs to come to UK, you don't have to be a genius to work that one out.

Iam64 Tue 08-Nov-22 08:42:35

Go on Maudi, explain it to me. I’m nit at your genius level

Maudi Tue 08-Nov-22 08:53:15

Seems you think you are a nit 😁 according to your post. No I'm not going to explain it, it's blatantly obvious.

Our commuter town (38 minutes direct train to the City) has definitely had its house prices pushed up by folks moving out of London.

New build 2 bed flats are going for around £300,000, rentals for 1/2 bedroom flats are in the region of £1,000.

Someone we know has just had their 3 bed semi valued £600,000.

It is extremely expensive to live in the S E, folks are still working from home and the local coffee shops, restaurants and takeaways are booming.

You’re a very rude unpleasant poster Maudi

Why because I don't agree with your left Agenda. Some posters are so used to the lefty echo chamber on here it's a shock when some don't agree with them it seems.

Seems to me you are the rude unpleasant poster as its you who are calling me names.

I have a "do not engage" list Iam64. Just in my head, it's not pinned to the wall. 😂

Works wonders for my blood pressure.

Something that may appear obvious to you, is not to me or most others. Explain please - assuming you can.

All I know is Albania is a very poor country. Maybe they want to come here to work to help their families lives.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 08-Nov-22 15:51:18

If I remember correctly the late Norman Wisdom is revered in Albania.

Norman may well have been consigned to history in Albania, although British, both Rita Ora and Dua Lipa are ethnically Albanian.

They may well want to come to the UK to help their families but paying vast amounts of money to illegal smuggler gangs to cross the Channel on a dinghy isn't right, surely you don't think that's OK, I wouldn't think anyone with any sense would aprrove of that and if they are coming to help their families that makes them economic migrants. If they want to help their families that can legally travel around the EU countries for 90 days, why don't they work there. No most when over here will engage in criminal activities.

Yes criminal work.

Maudi Tue 08-Nov-22 17:11:38

Why don't they apply for Visas if we require what they have to offer re qualifications and they have a firm offer of a job they can apply legally and get all the paperwork and work and help their families. Simples.

varian Tue 08-Nov-22 18:09:02

How ?

There is no opportunity to apply for asylum outside of the UK.

Some nations have a working visa system for needed skills, the UK does not, we do have limited recruitment programmes, for nurses and farm workers, maybe other skills. Covid interrupted that recruitment leading to much of the shortage today.
