Just that, really. No words. Terrifies me. So few people with so much power. And most of them are bonkers.

The reputation of Camelot and JFK would never stand up to the scrutiny of current day social media. Fortunate for him.

Rich and prominent people get a lot of exposure in the media.

But why would the ordinary person take their advice? What is good for very famous very rich folk is not necessarily in the interest of the ordinary person.

Is that so difficult to understand?

Not an overwhelming recommendation though, is it? 🤡🤡🤡

Thought this thread was particularly relevant now.
What some people thought 2 years ago has now come to fruition.

I didn't know Vance was a Musk selection!

A very powerful video. Musk and X are being discussed over other thread after WWM2 posted,

I notice that Vance has threatened that the USA will drop support for NATO if countries in Europe try to regulate Musk’s platforms like X.

Musk has made an absolute fortune out of this election. I wonder if he’ll be passing some of it on to the poorer people in America who he persuaded to vote Republican? I very much doubt it.

I don't know how anyone can stop him.

I am always surprised that the US despite its large population manages to opt for such mediocre candidates for President. There must be a younger Republican or Democrat somewhere in the pipeline.

Looking at our Gov, I wonder the same about the UK.
They are not at all inspiring.

To think that Musk has the president’s ear is indeed scary. He is not elected yet we must assume has some sway now with the political future of the US and indeed the rest of the world. Tbh if he is using X as a platform that should now be seen as a conflict of interests and in the name of a healthy democracy he should either give it up or give up his position with Trump.

Wyllow3 Sun 10-Nov-24 15:13:09

I can't see that happening. Unfortunately. Best bet (suggested other thread) is that advertisers withdraw from X or that another platform emerges.

Wyllow3 Sun 10-Nov-24 15:14:16

Well, they could fall out, don't know what could happen then.

Georgesgran Sun 10-Nov-24 15:14:48

Saw this online ….

LizzieDrip Sun 10-Nov-24 15:29:32

I think, even if advertisers withdraw from X, Musk won’t care - he’s so unimaginably wealthy it would have little impact on him.

I think Musk just uses X as a world-wide propaganda machine now, rather than a cash cow.

It might be an interesting scenario if he and Trump fell out though - that would be worth getting the popcorn out forgrin

I think Musk just uses X as a world-wide propaganda machine now, rather than a cash cow.

He sacked 80% of the twitter employees, though.

Which might look like penny pinching, but as his declared aim, should Trump appoint him to the post he wants, is to abolish several federal (is that the right term for the departments above state level?), such as Education, and make huge cuts to the federal bureaucracy. So perhaps it was a trial run...

Cutting state bureaucracy has been a tory wet dream for a long time, one that they implemented in the name of 'austerity'. We live with the results and it's not good. But our cuts were nothing like what Musk apparently envisages. If he gets his way US citizens might find that cutting bureaucracy and 'red tape', though populist, makes life quite uncomfortable for them.

I wonder if he develops his own projects on a shoe string?

70% of the stuff on X was found to be misinformation yet Musk’s supporters on X say they only get their news from X because it is the only platform that tells the truth. It is very concerning. Musk actually paid people $100 to vote and had them sign something supporting free speech and guns. Allegedly he said one person would be selected every day to receive $1 million. I have to verify this with my friend in America for accuracy.

And Fox News. My very racist, Trump supporting cousin told us that the BBC was massively biased, and that to get the truth, Fox News was the only reliable source.

Wyllow3 Sun 10-Nov-24 23:09:19

Oh, but in the last fortnight of campaigning he complained that Fox News had done him bad.

He accuses the network of being too soft on Democrats."
