How appalling! I remember reading about Saudi Arabia's mass executions, where some of those murdered were young people still in their teens involved in demonstrations, just kids really!
My neighbour where I previously lived, was Iranian the family left after Ayatollah Khomeini came to power, she returned to Iran after many years, understandably she missed her homeland. However I remember having a conversation with her many years ago, when she said something along the lines of "it's ok there now we can get Dolce and Gabbana and other designer labels", me "but they still have executions, public ones, people dangling off the end of cranes" she just wasn't phased by that. All the designer labels in the world, so unimportant anyway in the great scheme of things, can never separate that country's government from the punitive medieval horrors they inflict on their people, especially the women.
We can only hope, given they have a very young population, that they will eventually rise up in great numbers and over throw their theocracy and replace it with a more tolerant regime where they can enjoy the freedoms which we and other western democracies take for granted.
