November 11th or Sunday?

They are separate things - commemorating the ending of war and remembering the terrible loss of lives.

Do you know what the German visitors made of this, Maw?

Both.
For those at work/school etc a weekday is impractical, so Armistice Day on the 11th and full- blown Remembrance Sunday tomorrow including church services, ceremonies at war memorials and elsewhere makes sense.
I wasnt aware other countries celebrated Remembrance Sunday in the way we do. I know German visitors have been curious at wreaths of poppies at our local War Memorial. .

I think it's right to have both if November 11th doesn't fall on a Sunday. There is always a religious service in churches on Remembrance Sunday.

There seem to be two lots of ceremonies, both on Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.
Should we focus on just the one? Eg in France I think Armistice is a public holiday and ceremonies are on that day, not in churches on the Sunday.
Is it always a religious ceremony in the UK?
Then there are other occasions, locally and in London eg the Festival of Remembrance, with its own two minutes silence.
