Meghan Markle Faced 'Disgusting and Very Real' Threats in the U.K., Former Counterterrorism Head Says

So possibly NOT figments of fevered imaginations.

In a new interview with Channel 4 News, the former head of counterterrorism for the Metropolitan Police said that there were genuine threats to the Duchess of Sussex's life while she lived in the U.K.

Neil Basu opened up about the alarming allegations amid his resignation as Assistant Commissioner for Specialist Operations for the Met Police in an interview released Tuesday. Basu, 54, is leaving the force after 30 years, during which he earned the Queen's Police Medal for distinguished service and served as the senior-most officer for the counterterrorism unit of the Met Police starting in March 2018 — two months before Meghan and Prince Harry's royal wedding.

"You were in charge of royal protection. How would you characterize the threats that Meghan and Harry received?" journalist Cathy Newman asked in a quick clip shared on Twitter.

"Well, disgusting and very real," Basu replied, calling extreme right-wing terrorism the "fast-growing threat" to the country.

Oh yes, I see I added an extra d in my haste to correct the e. No worries.
Some people think Widecombe-in-the-Moor is a bit spooky. 👻

Oreo Sun 11-Dec-22 20:02:00

Why give Widecombe a wide berth ? 🤔

Hope Charles tells the gruesome twosome to stay away from the coronation next year.
If they did come over they would use anything they could as future ammunition against the RF.

You lot are the ones who keep banging in about them. You'll be putting money in their pockets for years.

Exactly- 1000s are watching just for the joy and pleasure of being 'offended' - knowing full well that each watch puts money in their pocket!

Why are 'you' (one) watching- what is your aim?

Disgusted, from Tunbridge.

Joseanne Sun 11-Dec-22 19:53:04

LHD, sorry I don't understand? Of course Widecombe is correct, that's why I added the e.

Widdecomb*e*

Actually Widecombe is correct. Widecombe-in-the-Moor to be precise.

I love Dartmoor but I always give Widecombe a wide berth. I do like Chagston though.

Perhaps they understand irony, faye17.

Volver you have completely forgotten that she must have recorded the conversation because how would she remember what was said. Maybe being black means you can't remember things too! I am horrified at the way this conversation has turned out and hat's off to you for standing your ground against this racism
Bravo 👏

What a cunning plan!

I hadn't thought that they're probably secret Harry and Meghan supporters and this is a way of ensuring that stories about them will be a money earner! wink

The verse from Proverbs chapter 30 v 17 is particularly hard hitting Avalon "The eye that mocks a father and scorns a mother, the ravens of the valley will pick it out and the young eagles will eat it"!!!

Yes, great post Allsorts

I always thought the quote “ sharper than a serpent’s tooth is that of a thankless child” came from the Bible. I know it as recalcitrant rather than thankless. All sorts is quite right, however. It is from Shakespeare’s King Lear. I have learnt something today. Very apt remark Allsorts and a good post.

IT was clearly shown in the newspapers photos of M and H, were false, the originals were shown, same reporters, bystanders, cars and building. Isn't it illegal to wrongly accuse people and falsify evidence? If there is any racism surely it's against the people wrongly accused of it. it's against H family, all of them it seems, it can't be against M father he adored her, she publicly rubbished him, he hasn't even seen his gc and he bought M up. She put her past behind her so H has to follow suit. They know racism was a good card to play. Why do people subscribe to Netflix it or buy the book?
The thread continues as more extreme revelations come out daily. Now there is evidence of falsfying "facts" perhaps this will change. The Spare with all his wealth was very much loved , his wife was welcomed but it wasn't enough. They need to be exposed for the harm they have caused. . I feel sorry for Will and Kate and his father, how true what Shakespeare wrote about an ungrateful child.

Q.E.D.

Joseanne Tue 06-Dec-22 07:52:35

Oh yes, and I'm interested to see whether King Charles can finally come up with an effective workable solution before his time is out.

Joseanne Tue 06-Dec-22 07:48:02

Good final paragraph Allsorts.
I said at the beginning of this thread that I am done with commenting on Meghan, a bitchfest has never been my style and I defy anyone to find evidence of this. Moreover, I personally don't wish to discuss the racist issues interminably - although I agree they shouldn't be brushed under the carpet.
What does interest me, however, are the family dynamics, particularly where the younger royals are concerned and for whom I feel very sorry.

I don't suppose there are many (if any) photos of the paparazzi targeting anybody. They're more likely to be lone operators with long distance lenses and you're more likely to see pictures they've produced rather than photos of the paparazzi themselves.

I'm not even tempted to watch the Netflix documentary, especially if the production standards of the trailer are representative. I've no doubt, however, that people will watch it, just so they have ammunition to continue the bitchfest ... thus providing oxygen for the couple they claim seek attention. It's the perfect real-life soap! hmm

Lexisgranny Mon 05-Dec-22 23:59:02

See what you mean. Someone’s knuckles should be wrapped it’s certainly the same photograph, though it has been cropped to remove the figure of one of the actors, the boy who played Ron Weasley, I think. Really lazy researching

Just as a point of interest, the ‘Harry Potter’ photograph used by Netflix in the trailer was not of paparazzi at all, but of official photographers, according to theTelegraph today.

Google "paparazzi alamy" and look at the first picture which appears. Some lazy picture editor has been given the script of the trailer and tried to find pictures to fit the words.

^In what possible context could a photograph of the press with their cameras attending a film premier have anything whatsoever to do with H & M? Neither of them were there and they hadn't even met!!!^

To demonstrate what paparazzi look like.

Just as the man in a bearskin who wasn't Harry demonstrated what a Guardsman looks like and the papers being printed and packed demonstrated what a pile of papers look like.

I saw an article about the Battle of Britain in the Telegraph. To illustrate the article, there was a picture of a "Spitfire", except anybody with a nanoparticle of knowledge of warplanes would have known that it wasn't a Spitfire. Spitfires are possibly the most iconic of British WW2 planes and this one wasn't even close. Sorry to say, but the job of finding a graphic to accompany newspaper articles or cut-price films is given to people who often don't know what they're doing. During the pandemic, there were pictures of classrooms with well-spaced desks and no more than a dozen or so pupils in each room. They were stock photos and were nothing like real classrooms.
