Racial Microaggressions in Everyday Life: Implications for Clinical Practice.
“Where are you from?”
“Where were you born?”
“You speak good English.”
That’s an American study you linked to, their culture is rather different to the U.K.
What do you suggest people talk about on their first introductions if they are obviously of different colour/culture?
I am extremely interested in people one of the great joys of travelling the world is learning about different cultures by talking to people of different cultures.
Um, the things they have in common? Local stuff.
If one of my neighbours started going on about my grandson's ethnic origins, rather than chatting about how the old man up the street is doing, the pot hole in the road or the noise from the pub, I would think they were cracked.
As it happens, the very elderly couple in the house behind mine have never once referenced my family's ethnic origins. They are full of praise for my DGS's liveliness, how much he's grown, my DD's long working hours etc. They manage just fine without needing to mention race or ethnicity at all.
Oh, an American study? So the British can't be racist? Funny how it keeps being an issue isn't it?
Stop and search.
Racist royal speculating about the colour of a baby's skin.
PM calling women in hijab's letter boxes.
MP called immigrants vermin.
On and on and on.
