^If one of my neighbours started going on about my grandson's ethnic origins, rather than chatting about how the old man up the street is doing, the pot hole in the road or the noise from the pub, I would think they were cracked^
I get that, totally GagaJo and yet I think the setting here adds substance because this lady wanted to stand out and be noticed and different because she was wearing an outfit that reflected her ethnicity. It wasn’t as though she was in jeans and tee-shirt or a dress from FatFace. She was promoting herself in a completely unusual attire. Good for her, no problem with that at all but don’t be surprised lady if your unusual attire, not something seen on the High Street, arouses curiosity.
She can’t have it both ways. Lady Hussey was insensitive by persisting but she probably wanted to get to the bottom of the origins of the costume. Tactless, sure. Racist? No way.
How do you know what she wanted? Fact - you don't!
