Is it OK to break the law if you are a Tory?

In 1987 Lester Pigott was imprisoned for tax evasion of £3m. Nadhim Zahawi (former chancellor) is having to pay back £3m used a tax evasion process incorrectly. He lied about this process and instructed lawyers to threaten a tax lawyer, who exposed him. Zahawi should resign and then face criminal charges both for the tax evasion and threats. But he’s a Tory….and the BBC aren’t even covering his crime.

Anders Povlsen billionaire owner of a Danish fashion group

Gosh. I wonder what was the source of those billions hmm

(Just to get back to where we were last night grin )

He's a major shareholder in Asos and Zalando, which are massive online fashion businesses.

So a significant portion of his wealth is in equities, which are a tool for speculation?

Share prices kept high by the prospect of high dividends which come out of the profits of the companies and serve only to increase the wealth of the shareholders? Taxed at a far lower level than earned income (7% in the UK).

How does this in any way benefit the major part of the population, of whom many, as consumers, have generated the profits by buying the company's products?

How does this benefit

The wiki entry under Jenners is of interest. It mentions Mike Ashley.

I think he's actually a bit more than an equity holder in the businesses, but your point is accepted.

In the context of billionaires, he does at least buy large areas of land to rewild them, so arguably does some good.

MaizieD I am intrigued to see that you believe share dividends are taxed at 7per cent. If you look at inland revenue figures for the highest band tax payers it’s almost 40 per cent.

Also it’s only conjecture on your part that any given billionaire will make a certain arrangement to pay for Jenners. We don’t know the actual source of funding.

Furthermore companies like ASOS are in my opinion not very good for the environment. Cheaply made clothing for mass consumption and landfills - it’s so much better to encourage hand knitting!
Growstuff the internet information suggests rewilding has been put aside for the time being. The Polvsen family thankfully now have twin girls so perhaps they are busy?

And I still think that it’s somehow anti democratic for foreign and home spun billionaires to make decisions on our behalf, be it on Brexit or rewilding. Must be the cold weather, it’s getting to me ….

Just listening to the Campbell/Stewart podcast about Johnson’s loan of £800k.

My goodness it is entirely shocking, and it would be fascinating to know why he needed the money.

My mind is working overtime here😄, and I have decided it is blackmail by the Russians.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 25-Jan-23 10:37:36

What AC and R/S are saying is that this is an entirely corrupt government.

ronib Wed 25-Jan-23 10:54:19

Whitewavemark2 forget about the Russians … it’s his ex wives and wife more likely?

Yes I know. But I sit here day dreaming😄. Blackmail sounds so much more intriguing.

The podcast was listing the benefits he received and it is absolutely astounding.

Apparently on top of the £800k, Johnson also received £1million for his foundation. No one seems to know what this foundation does. Almost certainly, like Trumps so called foundation, the money has gone into the Johnson coffers.

Most of his children adults now, the four from his 2nd marriage are all over 21. There is one acknowledged illegitimate child born 2009 and one suspected b 2010. Why should they be costing him vast sums?

Someone thinking along my lines 😄😄😄

REJOIN AND REFORM #RejoinCampaign

It’s highly likely Putin has ‘kompromat’ on Johnson. Those Lebedev parties in Italy - he won’t have been able to stop himself. And then there’s his urgent need for £800k. He’s one compromised clown…and he was our prime minister!

Some say we have to wait and trust the 'independent' inquiries in those matters.

Call my cynical but ...

William Shawcross, appointd to investigate Boris Johnson's loan/bribe to appoint BBC Chair, just happens ......

to be the father of Eleanor Shawcross,

who just happens to be the Head of No 10 Policy Unit !

Yes but!!

Someone whose only source of income was £100k of dividends would pay £18839.75 in tax. (£2000@ 0%; £35700 @ 7.50%; £49,730 @ 32.50%)

Someone whose only source of income was £100k salary would pay £27432 income tax (not taking into account NIC).

The additional rate starts on income in excess of £150k.

ronib Wed 25-Jan-23 12:24:45

The £1million to Boris… was Christopher Harborne the donor? Or was that a different gift of £1mil?

Christopher Harborne has donated significant amounts to Richard Tice, Reform Party, Nigel Farage, Brexit party and Boris Johnson definitely given by far the smallest contribution

I have seen it said that the £1million donation was to Johnson's 'Foundation'

Has anyone heard of this Foundation and know what it's for?

And then they will say, supported by some on GN- just wait, we are having an Independent Enquiry to find out exactly what happened!!!

MaizieD Wed 25-Jan-23 12:34:24

Thank's for that Dinahmo

When I checked the govt. website earlier I noted that the lowest rate charged is 8.5%. I don't recall the higher rates. Wasn't this part of last year's tax increases, supposedly to pay for Health and Social Care?

Someone whose only source of income was £100k salary would pay £27432 income tax (not taking into account NIC).

Of course, there's no NIC paid on dividend income (NIC s were also increased last year, weren't they?)

Whitewavemark2 Wed 25-Jan-23 12:34:47

I haven’t heard of it. But Rory Stewart brought it up in the podcast “The Rest is Politics”.

Johnson is also staying free in a large town house, and a country house, plus other benefits.

What on earth is going on?

ronib Wed 25-Jan-23 12:36:00

MaizieD a quick Google and the foundation is to help war torn Ukraine

South Ruislip needs to change its name to Kiev.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 25-Jan-23 12:39:56

So that is what paid for his useless visit this week presumably?

Although Stewart and Campbell didn’t seem to know about what it was set up for.

Is that where one of his free houses are?

ronib Wed 25-Jan-23 12:45:09

Whitewavemark2 South Ruislip is his constituency!

What is wrong with Stewart and Campbell, doesn’t anyone know how to Google?
