How offended are you? Am speechless that Charles/Palace has decided we should all muck in...as a community so that we can enjoy the coronation...thought this was supposed to be a scaled back event but now read/see that its going to be another big jubilee...how out of touch are these people..

Totally uninterested in the whole affair.
We are all going to hell in a handcart, people are choosing to go without food to feed their children.
2 friends of mine went to see an 83 year neighbour last week, she offered them blankets to keep them warm, they had to keep their warm coats on, the house was so cold.
Bring on the multi million pound junket and sweep all this under the carpet.

Opinions differ which is great and one of the reasons I don’t relish living in a republic.

volver Sun 22-Jan-23 13:22:13

Living in a republic doesn't remove your free will. You can still have opinions.

Even better because you can get rid of the head of state if you think they are making a pigs ear of the job.

No one in my area will be doing anything for the Coronation.
I have yet to see them celebrate anything.
Lived here 11 years and i have never even seen a Christmas tree/lights up.
No doubt they will be swigging the beers/wines and spirits back though, then again thats the norm around here LOL.

Our village hall was already planning what to do that weekend, before this information came out. We had a party for the jubilee, amongst other community things, and it was very well attended.

No-one has to do anything they don't want to.

Of course but our constitution makes me feel protected against a dictatorship .

Riverwalk Sun 22-Jan-23 13:31:37

What constitution?

Grandyma Sun 22-Jan-23 13:35:12

The constitutional monarchy

Of course but our constitution makes me feel protected against a dictatorship .

You mean like the time the PM and his gang lied to the monarch a couple of years ago and nothing was done about it?

You're not protected from a dictatorship by having a toothless Head of State, not in the slightest.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 22-Jan-23 13:35:39

Nothing happened in my part of the country for the jubilee.

Although people made the most of the day off.

Riverwalk Sun 22-Jan-23 13:39:04

In 2019 the Queen was ordered by Johnson to prorogue Parliament - this was later ruled to be unlawful.

No protection there.

Grandyma Sun 22-Jan-23 13:46:32

volver The monarch still has the power to dissolve parliament.

I agree with a paired down monarchy and that it needs updating but couldn’t feel comfortable if it was abolished - only my opinion. I may be completely wrong 💐

Bea65 Sun 22-Jan-23 13:46:43

Now I’m disgusted and Revolted!! What about the volunteers @Foodbanks ..they must feel invisible ..the Palace PR machine stinks

The monarch has the titular power to dissolve parliament but in reality would only do it under instruction from the PM.

Having an unelected person decide to dissolve an elected parliament when the head of that elected parliament and the elected representatives didn't want it, is the very definition of dictatorship.

We had a great party for the Jubilee despite the weather so hope we have another one. It is good to meet up with all your neighbours.

kittylester Sun 22-Jan-23 14:05:33

Well, anything that encourages people to volunteer is great in my book.

I volunteer a fair bit doing something I love. My volunteering helps lots of people but it gives me so much more!

I am constantly amazed by those of my friends who think that volunteering is silly and don't realise that it's a two way street!

Aveline Sun 22-Jan-23 14:28:57

Absolutely agree kittylester. I thoroughly enjoy my volunteer job and get a lot of interest and satisfaction from it.

Pittcity Sun 22-Jan-23 14:29:49

We will have celebrations and probably a Street Party. My volunteering day is Tuesday so doubt I'll do any extra.
I'll wait and see what's occurring locally and if I fancy it I'll join in.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 22-Jan-23 14:39:31

There were lots of celebrations round here for the Jubilee and no doubt for the Coronation.

Anything that has the potential to bring communities together is a good thing.

Volunteering is good for those who do it and for those in receipt of it.

Mollygo Sun 22-Jan-23 14:43:42

Not offended-won’t be doing it but not offended on behalf of others who like to volunteer, who will welcome an opportunity to be part of the celebration and who will enjoy it.

BlueBelle Sun 22-Jan-23 14:54:50

No celebrations ever round here
I m not offended but I have no intention of doing volunteering just because it’s been suggested by a very rich man I volunteer at least 20 hours a week anyhow
I ll be looking for something to do other than celebrate My daughter and granddaughter are off on a European adventure to escape for a few days sounds sensible to me
No interest from me

M0nica Sun 22-Jan-23 16:01:26

Bea65 but are the Palace trying to cut down costs on people who would normally be paid for services provided @checkpoints/venue cleaning etc

You really are putting a very odd spin on what has been announced. Why should volunteering on that day have anything to do with people working at checkpoints etc?

I assumed it would be community events - like litter picking at a local beauty spot - or planting trees and shrubs or something that would be fun and benefit all.

Ziplok Sun 22-Jan-23 16:11:05

No, not offended in the slightest. Seems a good idea for those who would like to be involved with doing something in their area, and having an opportunity to come together if they so wish. No one is being forced to participate, or “muck in”, so really, what on earth is the problem? If it’s not your cup of tea, you don’t join in - simples!

lixy Sun 22-Jan-23 16:11:31

Me too MOnica,
There were lots of street parties here for the Jubilee and know some are already being planned for the Coronation.
I'm not a Royalist but do like to join in with community events, so I'm looking forward to it.

Usually we do litter-picking in the park on a Monday, so maybe we'll just do that and have a cuppa afterwards as usual.
