If re-upholstered it would cost money, a gift doesn’t

I heard somewhere, I’ve no idea where, that there maybe a new gold coach for the coronation. I’ve no idea where I heard this, perhaps I dreamt it, but I feel that I heard it somewhere. A new gold coach is necessary because the old one is darn uncomfortable. Of course it wouldn’t be solid gold, maybe it wouldn’t even be gold at all, just painted gold and with superior springs.
Is it true? Does anyone know? Or did I actually dream it?

If this is a free gift then it would be rude to turn it down ,but surely the old coach could be re-upholstered .
In these sad economic times I do think that the Royal family need to be sensitive to the needs of their people .

Maiz is right. Such a fuss because someone wants to make a coach and give it to the UK for the use of their royals!
Granset fusstastic 😂👏👏👏
I had one in 1953, complete with a team of horses, like this one. Mine wasn't real gold either, it got metal fatigue and fell to bits.
I want another one!
I’ve still got mine, intact except the ‘gold’ has worn off and it’s now a silver coach. I like the little horses.

Callistemon21 I still have one of those, and the original (very battered) box. I wasn’t born at the time of the coronation, my mother gave it to me when I bought my first home.
Well here's one from 1977 on E-Bay and there are many more originals but what condition they will be in I don't know.
State Coach 1977 on E-Bay
Quite a bit of climate damage when it is flown from Sydney to London, surely?
Just utterly pathetic.

Uncomfortable? For how many minutes will he be in the thing?
Uncomfortable is someone queueing for hours to catch a glimpse of him arriving and leaving the coach, or a uniformed officer standing for hours guarding him.
Let’s hope he’s paying for it out of his own (or should I say the people of Cornwalls) money.
What’s that saying ‘live in hope, die in despair’.
We're not paying, it's a gift from a firm of coach builders.

Blimey…
This master craftsman is gifting a wooden coach painted gold to the Monarchy of the U.K.
His and his fellow craftsman workmanship will be on display for years to come what a wonderful legacy to leave.
Good for their business too, I expect, GG
Good for them. Excellent advertising.

But underlying all that is the goodwill, that weekend will do wonders to help business that really needs a boost and bring people together after a couple of really difficult years.

So that’s why the thousands of tourists arrive here for State occasions then?

I think the Coronation weekend will do masses of good not only for the upbeat reasons for people here, street parties and big family and friends gatherings and bbqs but for business here for foreign tourists ,hotels and cafes and shops.
Yes it is a show and pretty unique in the world.
But that is all it is.
Thousands of people would probably flock to dog and cock fighting too.
Doesn't make it right.

It is all so anachronistic, and embarrassingly so. Celebrating the crowning of a hereditary head of state, whilst his dysfunctional family tear themselves apart. It sounds more like the Plantagenets than the 21 century.
Still, it fits with our image throughout the world - a weird little state who has rejected its ability to trade well and closely with its nearest neighbours, and spending most of its time navel gazing having turned in on itself, living on past glory.

Read Juliet27's post at 7.51.
It's a FREE GIFT to the monarch. It's not costing him or us anything.
So stop bl**dy moaning and nitpicking.
This.

Well Charles' mum coped with it - and that great lump of metal on her head...
Different times I suppose.
This thread is funny.
It goes from nit picking, to nithing, or is that knitting (at the guillotine), to exercising or is that exorcising, or should that even be excited? 😈

I’m guessing this man is an artist in his field, and wants to leave a piece of his work for posterity.
I think you’re right and what an amazing piece of advertising for him as well.
I’m just imagining the possible situations and * potential comments* on here, had KC refused the gift.
E.g.
Monarch turns down gift from Australian man how racist
KC says the gift is inappropriate during this financial crisis -*how rude*
KC insists on paying for the coach- hope he’s doing that out of his own money and not the tax payers
KC refuses to accept free gift because he doesn’t need it -*how rude*
Coach creator is told You should be doing something more practical for the poor in your own country instead of doing something that gives you pleasure to give as a gift.
My parents always told me it was good manners to accept a gift gracefully.
I’m guessing this man is an artist in his field, and wants to leave a piece of his work for posterity, I expect the royal family have the best collection of coaches in the world, and you can already view them at the Mews, so this will be an added attraction. I can’t get exercised about it.
"Stupid" now is it?
