Apologies for my technical inability to link, maybe some one will.
This individual says they were confused from age 4 about gender identity. S/he has been taking hormones and told the court s/he wants ‘all the surgery the nhs can give’. Defence council argued there are three vulnerable women in the case, his client and the women. The defendant pleaded not guilt, arguing the sex was consensual. Both women gave evidence that they resisted, told him no but his strength overcame resistance. The jury clearly believe the women.
He’s ric to a women’s prison, but will be kept in solitude.
We need prison facilities for these kind of offenders. I understand they’d be vulnerable in men’s prisons but they should not be in women’s prison.

Probably thinks he's landed in paradise in a woman only prison lots of opportunities to get close to vulnerable women and being the only man shouldn't be too difficult. Win win situation for him.

We've just been told upthread they will be kept solitary.

He will only be segregated for a very short time, then they have to decide which prison is the best, where he’ll be free to mingle.

Is society unconsciously aiding and abetting these men with their fantasies of being a women?

It is medically import change your chromosomes and your physiology, a trans person still needs to have the appropriate medical check-ups relating to their birth status.

I have absolutely no problem with anybody dressing how they please and calling themselves by whatever name they choose. I do have a problem with men bleating that they want access to women’s spaces and some of them telling us they have period pains and what it’s like to be a women.

Misogynistic at every level…

It's hard to believe that anyone who still has male genitals is allowed in a women's prison.
It seems obvious to me that there is a real danger of rape but it has been overlooked if a man says he identifies as a woman.

I would hate for anybody to be discriminated against or treated unfairly for a person’s gender identity. However as someone has already stated everyone is too fearful of backlash to speak up.

There is an article in the news today of a man who wants to be a black alien and is having his body altered to reflect how he sees himself. Now all the surgery in the world will not make him a black alien although he will present as one.

This very case illustrates one of the clauses which campaigners wanted to have included in the SNP Gender recognition act, namely that a person cannot be tried in a different gender to that in which they committed the crime with which they are charged. Or words to that effect. This perfectly reasonable clause was not included. Like most on here, I have no issue with whatever people wish to wear or call themselves, but I do have an issue when the rights of one group of people, however suppressed a minority, can triumph over the rights of another group, namely women and girls. To take this ludicrous situation to an even more ludicrous height; could I self identify as a black woman (or man) and claim that I had been sacked from my job as a result of my employer's racism?

Smileless2012 Wed 25-Jan-23 13:56:25

As things stand you probably could HPQ.

It beggars belief that that clause was not included in the Bill and I've yet to see a coherent explanation of how trans gender's are being suppressed.

Callistemon21 Wed 25-Jan-23 14:06:59

If a transwoman later develops prostate problems (quite likely as the person ages) or even prostate cancer then could that be dismissed if the person insists that they are an authentic female?

There is a petition to parliament asking that the equality act be updated to say that “sex” means your biological sex, not your preferred “gender identity “.

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to give a direct link to the petition here, so I’m linking to the Mumsnet thread about it.

The petition stands at around 74,000, at 100,000 it will be debated by parliament.

Sorry, I generally promise myself to keep quiet, but sometimes can't help it.

What on God's green Earth has Sturgeon et al got to do with someone who committed rape in 2020 and is being sent to a women's prison under the terms of the law as it is just now? The same laws as pertain in England and Wales, incidentally.

Its getting ridiculous, really it is. Are people not worried about having no knowledge in this area before they jump to conclusions?

NanKate Wed 25-Jan-23 16:21:13

The situation with a person with a penis identifying as a woman, when they are clearly a man makes me feel we are living in a dystopian world where we are being fed lies as if they were truths. This has the mark of a Margaret Atwood book.

How can people be sucked into this madness ?

Smileless2012 Wed 25-Jan-23 16:34:48

They have nothing to do with this particular case volver but everything to do with this ridiculous GRC Bill.

volver Wed 25-Jan-23 16:38:14

So why is someone bringing Sturgeon into it when she has nothing to do with it and neither does the GRR Bill??

Please feel free to answer Fleur20.

One has to assume either a complete misunderstanding of the law as it stands, or a wish to implicate a group of people with something they have nothing to do with.

Baggs

The person is still a man. You can't change your sex even if you can change your gendered presentation to the world.

Very true Baggs. You can't change your sex if you are a man you will always have a Y chromosome whatever surgery you have. The same with women you cannot give them a Y chromosome so technically they will always be a woman.

Tom Swarbrick on LBC has just done an amazing hour on this.

He has been very brave.
The TRAs have been in abundance on the texts and emails.

If you want to listen, download the Global app and you will be able to catch up.

I haven’t commented up until now as I’m just so horrified and disgusted as to what is happening.
GN is full of hyperbole and cliches, but for once I really ‘don’t have the words’ as they say

David Blunkett - “this is just not acceptable” re. a two times rapist being sent to a women’s prison.

Thanks for that link grannydarkhair My respect for Davis Blunkett has just soared off the scale. An honest, but compassionate, man who's not afraid to say the truth. I wish a few more could develop a backbone.

BlueBelle Wed 25-Jan-23 17:37:30

Well said David Blunkett
That’s it in a nutshell
Fed up with this I don’t care who is what who feels what that’s their business not mine but someone with a penis is NOT a woman and should not be sent to a woman’s prison whether in solitary or not go to a man’s prison in solitary

Perhaps he can have a word with Paulette Hamilton MP (Labour) who thinks that this man should have all the help she needs to transition…

BlueBelle Wed 25-Jan-23 18:01:28

Why do you call him she Grannygravy he’s a HE

Doodledog Wed 25-Jan-23 18:16:20

Oopsadaisy1

The rapes were carried out when the person was a man, from what I read.

Of course they were. Women can't rape. And IMO he is still a man.

It is beyond insulting to the women he raped to refer to this person as 'she'.* Why do his feelings have to be taken into account? I can see no reason for holding him in a women's prison - he has raped women, and there is no reason to suppose he wouldn't do so again, given the chance, and the chance is going to he high if he is be incarcerated with vulnerable women.

I don't know about special trans facilities either. If they were the same crumbling accommodation that houses other prisoners, I wouldn't mind, but if they are to be state of the art, modern units reserved for people who say they are trans (and how can it be proved?) then I'd see that as very unfair to other inmates.

*I know you didn't do that, Oopsadaisy

I was paraphrasing the Labour MP

I think he is a he and always will be, despite wearing a dress and lipstick.

JaneJudge Wed 25-Jan-23 18:30:30

how has the rights of one male criminal who is transitioning after his rapes of several females trumped the safety of all the women prisoners to wherever he is being sent? Safeguarding is being ignored

BlueBelle Wed 25-Jan-23 18:38:40

Sorry Gransgravy my mistake anyway I ll repeat anyone with a penis is not a woman and is firmly a HE

Nanatoone Wed 25-Jan-23 19:00:24

Like many here, I have enormous sympathy for those who feel they are in the wrong body. There are things that can be done for that. But, they will never truly change their sex, it is not possible. Women seem to be on the back foot with this and our rights appear to be less accepted than a trans person's. Be who you want, dress however you like, do the hormones if you are old enough, but do not pretend that you are a real female. You are not and cannot be. Why this is taking up so much air space is beyond me but I think it is misogyny and an attack on women. Just live your life as you see fit and leave us women to our lives. I have spoken to a number of younger women and they feel under attack from this too. Margaret Atwood's vision of a world which we could live in, scares me, and I don't want to walk into that world.
