So has Johnson's latest attempt at gaslighting, convinced you?

Boris Johnson recently tried to divert attention from his financial problems by making a unofficial trip to Ukraine (not on Sunak business). He followed this by claiming he persuaded Germany to part with special tanks for Ukraine (roundly denied by Germans). Now Johnson has stated that in a telephone call, at the start of the Ukraine war ‘Putin threatened me at one point, and he said, 'Boris, I don't want to hurt you but, with a missile, it would only take a minute' or something like that.’ Could it be the support he got when he nearly died with Covid, (unlike the 139.5 thousand actual Covid deaths in England up to Feb 2022), he feels the spectre of his death will divert people from the row over his £800k loan scandal with Richard Sharp, chair of BBC. The latest news is that the senior civil servant Simon Case, told Johnson to stop seeking financial advice from Richard Sharp given Sharp’s imminent appointment to the BBC. This flies in the face of the denials by Johnson and Sharp. But Johnson loves to divert and deny. Yet here today the Kremlin has called him out - once again.

No

Self aggrandisement, doesn't fool me. The man has to have the spotlight. All ego.

Sadly, this might not be true.

I’m actually not convinced that he is lying about Putin threatening him. Johnson is a liar, and so is Putin - who knows what games they are playing. I doubt either of them is capable of a straightforward answer even if just asked what they ate for dinner last night.

Yet here today the Kremlin has called him out - once again.

Oh dear. Has his mate Putin let him down?

Where have you seen that, CvD66?

Did anyone else see recently that his very bestest mate, Zelenskyi said that no way should he be PM again?

Not that that would bother Boris, though. He's doing extremely well out of being a liar.

He’s a chancer, always has been. I wouldn’t trust him with the tea money, let alone the country.

Baggs Mon 30-Jan-23 14:35:29

Why does anyone care what Boris says? He's a has-been, not someone anyone needs to listen to unless they get some kind of perverse enjoyment out of finding him annoying. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Baggs Mon 30-Jan-23 14:35:55

I see bloss has said essentially the same thing as me.

Wheniwasyourage Mon 30-Jan-23 14:38:12

The trouble is, Baggs, that he might be planning and hoping to be a will-be-again, although let's hope nobody gives him the chance.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 30-Jan-23 14:41:55

JRM thinks he should be the chairman.

Johnson will undoubtedly go for the leadership again if he thinks he can win.

Sunak’s position is certainly not secure and Johnson still has a support base amongst the MPs.

Fleurpepper Mon 30-Jan-23 14:44:51

Nope!

Some seem ot have forgotten, or perhaps never come to grips- with the fact Johnson was VERY VERY close to Russian oligarch and probably much closer to Putin than any of us thought. Lebedev? His two un-accompanied trips to Umbria Italy with Russian oligarchs- so *issed he could hardly remember his name at the airport... VERY close.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 30-Jan-23 14:54:18

Johnson is friendly with a KGB member. He has fraternised with him, including meeting him without escort in Italy when Johnson was the foreign secretary.

It is known that Johnson took documentation with him.

Ilovecheese Mon 30-Jan-23 15:40:37

I think he actually might be the Tories best chance of winning again.

HousePlantQueen Mon 30-Jan-23 15:48:41

I don't trust Johnson as far as I could throw him. He is the worst kind of liar, because he believes his own lies. He should be answering questions about his buddy the 'ex KGB' agent and the unaccompanied trip to Umbria, this is what I would call traitorous behaviour; we all know there is not such thing as an 'ex KGB agent', the ex ones are all dead, dealt with by Putin. I really don't know what is going on, he, Johnson is suspiciously close to Russian power, but also diving in and out of Ukraine. He is a dangerous individual, and should be answering questions. Whether Putin threatened him or no? I don't know, don't care, and frankly wouldn't believe him if he told me today was Monday.

Fleurpepper Mon 30-Jan-23 15:57:40

His dangerous behaviour puts us all at risk, not just himself- all of us! He is a loose and very dangerous cannon, in the nuclear age.

Grantanow Mon 30-Jan-23 16:09:07

God help us if he gets any government job.

HousePlantQueen Mon 30-Jan-23 16:12:04

I agree Fleurpepper and I am alarmed by the number of people who still regard him fondly, see him as some sort of eccentric. I do wonder if there is some kind of connection between his ex KGB pal and the need for a loan of £800k, despite a very healthy income from his lecture tours. Surely, in any kind of world, this should be a cause for concern?

Dear Mogg
Have you heard the rumours? Guess who's being tipped to follow Sajid Zawawi as Party Chairman? O yes, the great Boris himself. I edge nearer and nearer to the throne just as Atlas inched between Scylla and Chlamydia to become King of Persia.

MawtheMerrier Mon 30-Jan-23 16:37:17

I don’t see what that has to do with “gaslighting”.

MayBee70 Mon 30-Jan-23 16:39:06

Am I right in thinking that Johnson’s comment made the front pages of some of the tabloids?

Yes - the usual suspects

Ailidh Mon 30-Jan-23 16:56:29

Not for an instant.
