Nicola Bulley 45y Old mum of 2 little girls missing from River Wyre area since last Friday morning at 9:15am walking her dog, Willow.

Read today that the SIL of Mackenzie Crook has gone missing,
She is 63 and last seen near Arundel.
It’s so sad that it’s almost an everyday occurrence for somebody to seemingly vanish.

The police were already aware of her problems, having had to attend the house very recently because of the state she was in.

do we have any evidence he lied about her mental state to the police? surely that is confidential?

something that has occurred to me is the downplaying of the impact of the menopause on all women. Same with periods, childbirth (especially c sections) We are expected to just get on with things when sometimes it is very difficult to.

I agree with the last few posts. A man near us left home just after Christmas and has never been seen since. His wife and children are beside themselves with worry. Yet, apart from Facebook, there has not been a single mention on the media. We no longer have a local paper to show an interest and the mass media is so obsessed with Nicola that they are not concerned with the hundreds of missing people out there, all of whom have worried and frightened families.
Nicola's partner lied about her mental state to the police and media when this all happened ( I don't blame him), but if he had been more honest the actions of the police may have been different.
Personally, i think the media, both mass and social should step right back and let the police get on with their job.
I understand why her family and friends wanted the situation to be kept high profile, but i think it has backfired and it is now time to stop and let the police search for Nicola.

People go missing everyday, but the press ( so I guess the general public ) are, on the whole, only interested in people who are:
White.
Female.
Middle class.
Young ( ish )
Attractive.

Obviously missing children are different, but to some extent the above ticks apply.

This is just an "I'm wondering". if the family had felt able to disclose a Mental Health vulnerability from the start:

would events have unfolded differently? (btw on BBC news they vary between saying, "Mental Health" and "Alcoholism and menopause").

Because the determined, "everything just a normal situation" contrasted with the ???? circumstances and the clear focus on the river was shouting "problems of some kind".

Is it still the sad case that Mental Health issues are still such a matter of shame (despite it being talked about openly so much more) that Nicola's case was cloaked in mystery, and hence the levels of speculation and debate.

Nicola Bulley's very many friends banded together as a group and had daily talks with the reporters to keep it in the news. That is what is needed with missing people

I have said this on here several times but still people ask why the other people are not heard about.

and filmed at the river, the head of the private search team has
been on every news channel

This gets to me too paddyann some years back a worker for a friend of mine went missing and as far as I know has never been seen again more recently an elderly gentleman walked out his house and has never been seen since he had a very small write up in the local paper The first one a middle aged lady didn’t even make that
There are people going missing every day but hardly cause a stir why do some occupy weeks and weeks of reports ?

I'm flummoxed by the amount of coverage this case has had .When my friends son went missing in the north of England it was hardly mentioned in the media .It took several weeks to recover his body from the river .No none knew he had fallen in the river just that he was missing and it was his family who kept us all informed .
I believe my friends would have hated all this stuff in the media,their beautiful boy just slipped on wet rocks and was lost forever ,still sadly missed 7 years on by all of us who watched him grow up .

The massive mistake the police made was going into detail if they had said that she had recently suffered some mental health problems that would have sufficed and given the people looking for her more of a chance of knowing that they may be looking for, a suicide, but no more details were needed and have made a bad situation much worse

Sadly the speculation on that would still be there whether the police had said anything or not.

If Nicola is still alive all the public comments and suppositions would certainly not help her seek help. It is very, very hard to deal with severe mental illnesses within a family because communication is difficult. They are in a different world and a different reality. Someone close to me has one of these frightening illnesses and the hardest thing is getting them to recognise when this horrible illness strikes again.

I think people are so desensitised though to the enormity of things they hear in the news too (if I am being generous) i think they forget people are someones's son or daughter or mum or Dad or brother or sister

I remember very well the tragic death of your daughter Annie, but I didn't know that you and your family received this appalling abuse. I can't begin to understand how dreadfully cruel people can be, it's completely beyond me. Its nice to hear from you and I hope you are now comfortable in your new home.

Maybe for the same reason that bullies bully. It's the only way they can feel important and deal with their own shortcomings.

And social media has given them the perfect conduit.

Fear? - too close to the bone in their own lives? Inner hurts, must punish others? But truly, I don't know.

Iam I had to speak of it, so distressing knowing this family is
reading similar, my grandchildren read the comments of their
mother , they were in their teens.

People can present a face to the world but often no-one knows what struggles they are having inside.
