This, in the news is breaking my heart.
I hope she comes home safe soon - but every passing day is such a worry.

"Factor"?

In what? Bulley's disappearance?

Baggs Tue 07-Feb-23 12:42:13

Totally agree. It does seem that the police very quickly decided what had happened and excluded other theories. It could be that they are aware of other factors.

Everything I've read suggests this is not true – i.e. the police are conducting many investigations. This is from the BBC article I just looked at: "Police believe Ms Bulley may have fallen into the River Wyre, but they "remain open minded" and are continuing to carry out a "huge number" of inquiries."

I feel uncomfortable speculating on Nicola Bulley’s disappearance whilst there are two little girls at home with their Daddy desperately wanting and needing their Mummy.

And criticising the police investigation when we don’t have all the facts

Indeed.

The thread is unpleasant, to me praying and hoping are best.

Yes, I quite agree Baggs
It’s just that the river searches are so visible and can be filmed and photographed.
Just because we can’t see all of the other work that is being carried, doesn’t mean that it isn’t happening

I think the police are working with no clues at all there just appears nothing to go on She disappeared with no signs of a struggle or an abduction surely if someone had grabbed her there would have been scuff mark in the grass and her phone would not have been laid carefully on the bench but fell or flew out her hand
I think they are doing what they can there is nothing at all to indicate she left that area I hope the divers can find some clues but I’m not sure they will
It’s a total mystery
But I don’t think the police should be criticised we don’t know what is going on behind the scenes

Chestnut Tue 07-Feb-23 15:40:44

I am just commenting on the newspaper reports which are in the public domain. The specialist diver is now saying that the phone may have been left there as a decoy during an abduction. That is what I thought right from the start. I hope the Police have been investigating that, but the focus seems to have been very much on the river. I really hope that precious time has not been wasted here.

Sorry, but if this was a potential crime scene then why were all the TV reporters in the UK stomping around that bench? The whole area should have been sealed off and forensically examined to within an inch of its life.

I do wonder how reliable the evidence from the witnesses is.... it's been shown many, many times that recall can be flawed.
There's been cases of other missing people and witnesses convinced that they saw the person at a particular place/time and this has later been proved to be absolutely wrong and/or impossible.
I can't imagine what the family are going through and we can only hope for a resolution sooner rather than later.

If she went willingly with someone she knew for some plausible reason there wouldn’t be any signs of a struggle.

She would have picked up the phone and taken the dog.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 07-Feb-23 17:43:57

Depends on what was said, how far she thought she was going - i.e. not very far, perhaps a few steps.

Katie59 Tue 07-Feb-23 18:27:14

She certainly would not have taken the phone because she would be tracked easily, credit cards are also easy to track. IF this is a planned disappearance it has been meticulously planned - no evidence, no video surveillance.

We will see

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 07-Feb-23 19:04:21

I’m not suggesting for one moment that she might have planned it.

Lizbethann55 Tue 07-Feb-23 19:52:09

The river is deep, fast flowing and tidal. I suspect that Nicola did tragically fall in and that she was far away before anyone even realised that she was missing. I just pray that she is found before too long.

BlueBelle Tue 07-Feb-23 20:44:49

That’s what I feel too Lizbethann

I’m just so upset about what her family are going through. And now with the earthquake disaster I feel so helpless that people are suffering so much. I feel as though I should turn off the news channels but I can’t. It’s all just so awful.

Redhead56 Wed 08-Feb-23 09:40:46

It’s all too much I agree so much suffering pain and tragedy people are going through. It does want to make you switch off the news but we are human and we can’t help but worry.

tickingbird Wed 08-Feb-23 09:54:52

I think it’s awful that there’s now disagreement between the police and the man from the private search team. Also that members of the public are breaking into empty properties and conducting their own investigations, even abusing witnesses on social media. The amount of press in the area plus the ghouls who have travelled into the town to be nosy is just adding to the confusion and misinformation.

Ailidh Wed 08-Feb-23 09:59:58

I agree, tickingbird.

A couple of days ago I looked at some of the stuff on Facebook, and the number of people who seem to be treating it as a reality TV show, and demanding that the police give them every piece of information, and condemning the police as imbeciles.

Urmstongran Wed 08-Feb-23 12:04:09

We ought not to speculate.
Just hope.
Totally agree.

This:

“At a press conference last night Supt Sally Riley, of Lancashire Constabulary, said Mr Faulding was not included in “all the investigation detail” and knew nothing more than an ordinary member of the public.

She said: “It’s kind of SGI to offer their services, genuinely, but we already have our own experts who are discounting anything else we have not already done.”

A team of 40 detectives is working on approximately 500 lines of inquiry, Supt Riley added. Detectives have also analysed data from Ms Bulley’s Fitbit smart watch, she said.

More than 700 drivers who travelled through the village around the time she went missing are also being traced.

Supt Riley said: “This is normal in a missing person inquiry and does not indicate that there is any suspicious element to this story.

“The inquiry team remains fully open-minded to any information that may indicate where Nicola is or what happened to her.”

However, it is still the Force’s theory that Ms Bulley fell into the Wyre, Supt Riley said. She also warned amateur investigators against breaking into derelict buildings and barns along the river to look for Ms Bulley and causing “distress” to her family.”

JenniferEccles Wed 08-Feb-23 12:42:45

I’m sure those misguided people who broke into empty derelict buildings looking for the missing mum had every good intention, but it beggars belief that they thought the police wouldn’t have already checked them.
