According to Twitter Nicola Sturgeon plans to stand down as SNP leader before the next UK election. Has that been suggested anywhere else?

BigBertha1 Tue 31-Jan-23 22:32:03

I had heard that. Not sure where I heard it though.

nanna8 Tue 31-Jan-23 22:39:03

I heard that many months ago. Maybe wishful thinking on someone’s part?

Callistemon21 Tue 31-Jan-23 23:07:58

How long has she been Leader and First Minister? Is it seven years? It's quite a long time in a stressful job.
And she's not having a good time at the moment.

I wouldn't blame her at all.

It seems to be all over Twitter

Oldbat1 Wed 01-Feb-23 00:31:16

Not what she said the other day in response to a question about NZ prime minister resignation.

Interviewed by Laura K a couple of weeks ago on BBC she said she had a good few years in the tank. However.... a day in politics and all that.

Aveline Wed 01-Feb-23 07:04:29

It's certainly all over Twitter.

Fleur20 Wed 01-Feb-23 07:19:51

We can hope.

I know nothing about her politics, but as a person she has seemed rather flustered and all over the place with her comments recently.

I think it a good idea to put the main subject in title thread. such as nicola sturgeon in this case.

'is this true or even likely ' could be anything. imo

It sucks people in, though.... 😁

If people think she is about to leave she will do the opposite. She seems to be that sort of person. I think Americans would call it ornery.

halfpint1 Thu 02-Feb-23 10:31:21

Ornery? That sounds like something else

Callistemon21 Thu 02-Feb-23 10:36:09

ornery
It's a word I seen in books but never used myself
Ornery - cantankerous, bad-tempered.

I would say determined and perhaps rigid.

If people think she is about to leave she will do the opposite
I'd call that bloody-minded

I know the feeling 😁

Dont get your hopes up Nicola is going nowhere until her work is done .As a long time member of SNP I can assure you the word on twitter is very different from the word from the FM in person .

I suspected as much, although it was such fun watching the interview where she was desperate not to answer the question she was asked, and trying instead to answer a question that she wanted to be asked.

HousePlantQueen Thu 02-Feb-23 11:55:28

Like her or loather her, it has to be admitted that NS is a great speaker, never stumbles, is very practiced in politician speak, but lately she does seem to have been not quite so sure of herself, especially in the face of the fuss about transgender people and prisons which seems to have blown up in her face.

Aveline Thu 02-Feb-23 13:04:21

That's terrific paddyann. As you know her so well could you ask her what a woman actually is? Most of us seek clarification.

volver Thu 02-Feb-23 14:15:22

Well I suppose if they keep saying it year after year they'll be right eventually.

🤣🤣🤣

Incidentally "thrawn". "Thrawn" is the word that so many people on here are clutching for. Or "Indifferent to bullies and the ignorant." That works too.

Katie59 Thu 02-Feb-23 15:05:59

When is the next election, would she want to stand again?

Aveline Thu 02-Feb-23 16:33:11

Thrawn is a great word!

Callistemon21 Thu 02-Feb-23 21:30:05

Thrawn:

twisted; crooked.
"a slightly thrawn neck"
2.
perverse; ill-tempered.
"mother's looking a bit thrawn this morning"

Her neck looks fine so is is 2?

Aveline Thu 02-Feb-23 21:48:28

Yup!
