Silly condescending blanket statements like this deter good people from going into politics, particularly at local level. Very few people want to be world king. Most just want to help and get things done. Why besmirch them all?

The pay that politicians back the party line is what I object to they are just nodding heads. We know the Brexit campaign was a pack of lies, most of the Tory party knew it was lies yet they all backed those lies.

There are several issues since then that were plainly not true yet they all backed the party line, how can anyone say politicians are totally honest.

Fleurpepper I totally agree, there are many politicians who work hard for their communities and try to make a positive difference in their lives. Of course in a democracy you have to appeal to voters - but if some of them took more trouble to understand the issues it might make a huge difference.

Let’s not forget that Trump supporters are just obvious and loud wherever they are and they no longer go to all his events. The press only show the supporters without the reality that in NYC there were more photographers than Trump supporters . He is very unwelcome in his hometown as they know first hand what a crook he is !!

I am glad that there is no question of me being on the jury, as I am completely convinced ( without hearing any evidence!) that he is guilty as h#ll of more or less everything for which he stands accused. He has shown nothing but contempt for any rules, truths, behaviours which do not suit him.

I would think there will significantly more still to surface or be really well hidden. Yes he is/was a despot but thankfully he was got rid of... unlike Putin and a few others on this planet.

I give thanks for today, that I live in a relatively safe democratic country...although I see that our democracy is being slowly and systematically eroded by the currents * in power.

No Katie59, NO- they don't all lie. I have many friends who are politicians, in many countries, and they don't all lie. This is a ridiculous statement. Just like the 'all politicians are the same' nonsense thrown about regularly by some.

I think there are other cases to come Whitewave. You are right about intent which is why with Trump as with Capone they have gone for something that leave a trail.

Listening and reading about the 34 felony case, it seems that general opinion is that it will a difficult one to pin on Trump.

Apparently it is a question of “intent” which is difficult to prove.
