BBC News - Sturgeon's husband arrested in SNP finance probe
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-65187823

I am sorry to read this as I had faith in the SNP. I hope that a police investigation into this matter will bring out the truth of the matter.

I thought so too Calli. But surely a woman of principle would, as soon as she realised that there were financial irregularities (the auditors resigned after not being allowed to see the books), have left her husband, reported him to the police and then resigned.

Seriously, you think she didn't know what was going on?
It was all concealed from her?

We must be careful what we say, as HopeGN has pointed out, but I always thought Nicola Sturgeon was a woman of principle even if I didn't always agree with her.

volver I’m not all over social media. I do Gransnet and Facebook. No TikTok or Snapchat or Twitter for me. I chat a bit with other people on Gransnet and follow a few pages of interest on Facebook and of course follow family members. All over social media I am not. I expressed an opinion about Nicola Sturgeon, that’s all. If I had been her, I would have done exactly the same. I feel rather sorry for her because the embarrassment of this must be immense.

There is a forensic tent outside their front door, no doubt to hide removal of lots of paperwork and computers and anything found hidden. Good search happening I should think

Me too maddyone... and resigned in such a hurry.

It was rather odd, when only a month or so earlier, after Jacinda Ardern's resignation, she had declared she still had "plenty in the tank".

Shouldn’t that read plenty in the bank

I don’t know much about this but am convinced that this is why Nicola Sturgeon resigned.

Thought so myself

Thanks for the info about 6 4, it’s the first I’ve heard of it. I’ve always enjoyed watching Kevin McKidd on-screen, so I’ll definitely give it a go.

Ailidh Wed 05-Apr-23 11:59:40

I'm just about to watch 6 4, sounds good. My old TV is smart but somehow not smart enough to get itvx, so I'll have to watch on the wee ipad.

HopeGN Wed 05-Apr-23 11:56:21

Hi there,
We've moved this post off the Christmas board, and would like to remind everyone that contempt of court protections kick in in Scotland when an arrest is made. So keep the heid, everyone who doesn't want a mistrial.

I binge watched 6 4 and enjoyed it. It is an interesting storyline.

yes, so did we, very well produced and acted and a tense story line

Parsley3 Wed 05-Apr-23 11:37:58

I have no idea why this is under Christmas but I will get it moved.

HousePlantQueen Wed 05-Apr-23 11:26:27

Oh dear. We live in interesting times. Fraud is fraud (allegedly), and it does not help to either defend/attack because of the party involved.

On a slight tangent, has anyone watched the series 6 4? Excellent.

eazybee Wed 05-Apr-23 11:21:14

I don't think it is the right thing to resign without giving any clear reason, when trouble is obviously brewing. Better to admit to grave problems and offer to remain until the matters are clarified and possibly resolved, then go because the trouble occurred under your watch whether you were involved or not. Being married to the person under investigation makes it hard to deny some knowledge at least.

Daddima Wed 05-Apr-23 11:15:47

I must say I am sorry to hear this, as I had a lot of time for Nicola Sturgeon, and surely she would have known of any jiggery pokery by her husband?
I now wonder if she or her husband did indeed have a hand in ( or at least knowledge of) the case against Alex Salmond, as is being claimed elsewhere. I am still of the opinion that, while he was obviously up to no good with the women concerned, the charges against him were exaggerated. Will some of his accusers now change their stories if Murrell and his wife are indeed behind it? Who knows? It’s just a sad day for independence.

Blossoming Wed 05-Apr-23 11:14:49

I think you’re right MaddyOne

volver3 Wed 05-Apr-23 11:14:40

You're right about one thing.

I don't know why she resigned.

So I'm not all over Social Media telling everybody I'm convinced I know why she resigned.

volver3 Wed 05-Apr-23 11:13:22

Aye, OK.

After all we clearly live in a post-truth society.

I think it so it MUST be true.

I had thought better of you maddyone

maddyone Wed 05-Apr-23 11:13:16

I don’t know whether she knew or she didn’t know, that’s all speculation and hence I said I don’t know much about this. None of us know whether she knew but I would imagine she didn’t and resigned when she did know. But none of us know that including volver.

maddyone Wed 05-Apr-23 11:10:48

Of course I’m convinced about why she resigned! It’s obvious to anyone. The embarrassment to her when this came out would be immense and she did the most sensible thing.

Aveline Wed 05-Apr-23 11:06:43

It's been under investigation for ages. How could she not spot if he was maybe a bit worried. After all they do live together...

I don’t need a pitchfork or burning torch because I think Nicola Sturgeon most likely resigned over this. She did the most appropriate thing. She didn’t necessarily know anything about it until quite recently but she did the right thing when she did know.

You just admitted you don't know much about it, but you're convinced you know why she resigned.

🤦🏼
