BBC News - Sturgeon's husband arrested in SNP finance probe
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-65187823

I am sorry to read this as I had faith in the SNP. I hope that a police investigation into this matter will bring out the truth of the matter.

I'm being ultra careful about commenting in it, whatever it is, but isn't it exactly what people have been commenting on for ages, except it was being closely guarded until now? Surely no great surprise.

That may well be, but under Scots Law, there's a very distinct line drawn before and after a case is considered 'live', which this now is.

Might I point out that this is now a live case under Scots Law. Warnings have already been given about the possible consequences of commenting on it - so be careful what you post.

I binge watched 6 4 and enjoyed it. It is an interesting storyline.

Have just googled it and come up with an Apple watch!

Where can I find it please? Always up for a good series ...

May I ask if the police have made an arrest does that mean they have solid proof of wrong doing?

Me too maddyone... and resigned in such a hurry.

It was rather odd, when only a month or so earlier, after Jacinda Ardern's resignation, she had declared she still had "plenty in the tank".

Shouldn’t that read plenty in the bank

Good one MerylStreep 💵💴💶💰

Anything that could prejudice a trial if there is one.

Why was it on the Christmas board? 🤔 If that's not a leading question?

It was on the Christmas board because I wasn't paying attention when I posted it. It was a mistake.

What is interesting is that he was arrested. He didn't do the usual thing whichis voluntarily attend the the police station (accompanied by his lawyer). The police feel they have enough evidence to warrant an arrest.

Has he been given bail and on what bail conditipns.?

Personally, I never understood why any party could not see the obvious danger of having a married couple as party leader and party chairman. Even if their conduct in post was as pure as driven snow, it surely is going to lead to rumours and suggestions of corruption and inner dealings to which others are not party.

Even if Nicol Sturgeon was so cloth eared and cloth minded that she couldn't see the problem, why on earth did not other senior SNP leaders see the dangers and advise her forcefully of the dangers. Publically if necessary.

Or is it again, as in Parliament, another demonstration of the danger of professional careerist politicians afraid to put their jobs and pensions at risk by standing up and being counted on issues like this.

I cant see how any potential juror could fail not to be swayed in different directions by the media, social media, what people say in the street etc.
But hey ho.

Mollygo Wed 05-Apr-23 14:10:03

I don’t know why NS resigned. Her husband may well prove to be guilty of fraud-they don’t arrest without some grounds for suspicion.
I don’t know whether NS knew that the alleged fraud was going to hit the headlines.
I do know that posters on GN tell me that she is clever/astute etc.
If poster’s beliefs are true, that claim supports the idea that she knew what was going on.
But if he is guilty, whether she knew, or for how long she knew, or why she resigned so quickly after saying she had ‘plenty in the tank’ who knows?

Thank you.

I wouldnt have a clue what could prejudice any trial.
I need to read up.

To wrap it in mystery, or to spruce things up a bit?

I don’t know much about this but am convinced that this is why Nicola Sturgeon resigned.

Thought so myself

Me too. It’s odd that the police chief visited her shortly before she resigned then resigned himself.
I think there’s going to be something massive unearthed otherwise why the arrest and not just a visit to a police station?
Odd that NS left the house just before all this kicked off too.

I was merely responding to Callistemon’s comment about love HPQ. No need to jump on me.

I wasn't jumping on you GSM, just giving my opinion on what is gossip. Undoubtedly there will be more as rightly or wrongly, the SNP polarise opinions, and female politicians get more than their fair share of gossip and innuendo.

Now, referring to the thread about favourite words innuendo is a favourite of mine grin. I always think of sniggering Carry on actors saying it grin

I'm in France, (no diplomat lovers here), but the news has hit the French journos. The favourite word being used is that the SNP is now at an "impasse".

Hi there,
We've moved this post off the Christmas board, and would like to remind everyone that contempt of court protections kick in in Scotland when an arrest is made. So keep the heid, everyone who doesn't want a mistrial.

Is it written somewhere on GN, or does anyone have a helpful link, as to what is allowed, and not allowed, to be said on here?

Personally I dont have a clue.
[And will also need to look up what heid means].

Wasn’t she supposed to be living with Andy Murray’s mother or was that a scurrilous rumour?

scurrilous and irrelevant, whether true or not.

volver3 Wed 05-Apr-23 13:54:49

God it was a rumour. 🤦🏼

Along with the new town love nest she bought off Andy's mother to live in with her lesbian French diplomat lover, and the whole travel iron in the Balmoral thing.

People's imaginations never fail to impress me.
