Hello 👋
Just that. A straw poll.
It would be interesting to see the lay of the land with this.
See how it goes…

Now call me paranoid...

but are we not even allowed to see their houses any more?

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 23-Apr-23 16:36:36

Very strange. I won’t be able to meet you there because I can’t identify it. 🥲

volver3 Sun 23-Apr-23 16:37:42

I am being mysterious and protecting their privacy.wink

What us out of context is that you quoted something selective that didn't tell the whole story.

This is why we can't have a proper modern country. 😏

🙂

It happens on Gransnet all the time.

This is why we can't have a proper modern country
I never knew Gransnet had so much influence 😲

The property was given to the Queen. She allowed the government to manage it. In the 90s it was handed back to the Queen. Not passed, handed back.

Presumably the government let it go to rack and ruin, as they did Buckingham Palace.
A stitch in time saves nine.
Proper planned maintenance saves a lot of expensive trouble.

Then handed it back when they couldn't be bothered with it any more.

I'm intrigued by the posters who are defending the UK Government for once.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 23-Apr-23 16:48:55

I think they had let it go and didn’t want to shell out for it any more, it wasn’t paying its way as grace and favour flats and needed work. I admire Charles for phasing out that sort of privilege and letting the flats at a commercial rent. He’s not one to continue the tradition of hangers on.

volver3 Sun 23-Apr-23 16:50:19

In the name of sanity ... 😂😂😂

It's like a cult!

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 23-Apr-23 16:58:21

You must be in favour of all the hangers on having posh pads at minimal cost then!

volver3 Sun 23-Apr-23 17:15:20

I thought this property was a very strange thing. Always have.

LRavenscroft Sun 23-Apr-23 17:48:21

Definitely a Yay! I am a Royalist and proud of the Monarchy. So, if people don't like living here then why don't they emigrate somewhere else and let the rest of us enjoy afternoon tea, bunting and watching the Coronation. Where's the Pimms?

volver3 Sun 23-Apr-23 17:54:31

So you want people who don't agree with your political views to bu**er off to another country?

There's a word for that.

I think there are one or two Gransnetters who have a property portfolio; it was encouraged at one time in the early 21st century, if I remember correctly, as an alternative to pension funds.

Don't think our garden shed counts.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 23-Apr-23 18:21:36

Nor mine. I wonder if we could let the garage? It has light and power, no sanitary facilities but as regards water there is a water butt right outside. The tenants would have to share with the cars though …

Callistemon21 Sun 23-Apr-23 18:32:42

I sometimes thought about converting the garage but it would probably be more suitable for DH.
Most of his junk stuff is in there, the kind of stuff which might come in useful one day.

I don't think a car has been in there for years, there's no room.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 23-Apr-23 18:36:02

Ah yes, he would feel at home.

NanKate Sun 23-Apr-23 19:49:58

I’m definitely with you JRavenscroft. No one is going to spoil my fun. The bunting will be out on display

I was 7 at the Queen’s Coronation and my parents got their first telly and invited friends round to celebrate. I will follow their way of doing things.

We have invited 3 friends to join us for morning coffee and shortbread biscuits a la Prince Charles M and S tin. Then we will watch the ceremony and comment on all the different outfits.

We will adjourn for a picnic lunch, homemade cake, maybe a trifle and bubbly.

Finally we will slump in front of the tv to watch a little more of the royal goings on, before everyone adjourns home and I will then put on my pjs and we will finish off the lunch for supper.

Anyone who fancies joining us is welcome, other than H and M 😳 🇬🇧🍾🍹🥂🥳🥳

volver3 Sun 23-Apr-23 19:53:05

OK, how does it spoil your fun if I don't watch a medieval ceremony on TV?

Are you one of these people who make people get up and dance at parties when they don't want to?

NanKate Sun 23-Apr-23 21:37:40

What a thoroughly miserable and unkind comment Volver. Do you always speak to people like that who have different views to yourself ?

volver3 Sun 23-Apr-23 21:57:16

The world is turned topsy-turvy .

I get told I'm spoiling people's fun by making my own decisions and I'm in the wrong, apparently.

But managed to insult NanKate with a side swipe at the same time

It's really quite amusing to watch.

Are you going to make the Broad Bean Quiche, NanKate?

I'm sorry that what I said upset you NanKate.

In my defence; you said you were "with" someone who said that people like me should move to another country, and that we weren't going to spoil your fun.

Put yourself in my shoes.

I will not be watching the coronation on TV, nor will I be joining in anything related to the coronation. That doesn't mean that I don't like living in the UK and I don't know where I could emigrate to anyway.

I have nothing against people who will be joining in and I would have thought there's room in the country for all of us. I always thought we were supposed to have a reputation for tolerance.
