Is this the best outcome?

Oh dear god. Leave them alone.

Don't shout at me but I did wonder when the date of the Coronation was first announced whether it had been chosen because it is Archie's birthday, therefore giving H&M an excuse not to come.

If they hadn't gone to war with lies, about H family, then they would both have been able to travel with children, perhaps a celebration later.
Would have preferred he stay at home also.

Let's face it, no matter what they decided they would be criticised. Both come - Meghan would be accused of trying to grab all the attention away from Catherine (some news outlets have invented a hatred between them), only Harry comes - Meghan accused of "boycotting" the family or that she and Harry are having marital problems, both stay away - accused of boycotting his father on an important day in his life. Personally, I don't care and won't be watching!

Only Prince William is swearing fealty to the King. In the past all the royal dukes had to do this, but not this time. Not sure the poor old Duke of Kent would manage it bearing in mind his age and obvious frailty. Being royalists I and family will certainly be watching.

Thanks Jaberwok

They are getting what they work so hard for, front pages of tabloids and news coverage.

Ah c’mon volver3 you love it….otherwise you’d just ignore any threads with H & M’s names in the title.

Those that saw her as unwelcome, unwanted and wished she'd go away permanently. Are now complaining that she's done that.

Irony

It’s my impression from reading this thread that most Gransnetters at least, either don’t want Meghan there or don’t care whether she comes or not. I don’t anyone’s complained that’s she’s not coming. I don’t know about the rest of the country.

maddyone Thu 13-Apr-23 09:46:15

I don’t think…..

volver3 Thu 13-Apr-23 09:49:03

Look up Dan Wootton.

Strange chap.

And the Scottish Sun front page.

She's staying home with the children, he's making a brief visit. Honestly how can anyone rejoice over this issue? They should be able to come and go as they wish. Even if there has been a total family breakdown it shouldn't affect their ability to come into this country.
The one thing I do admire is their ability to keep their children from the public view and bring them up in a country where they are properly protected. And Archie's birthday is probably more important to both of them.

How are their children better protected in America than they would be here?

I suppose they won’t be going to a mainstream school. 🤔

Anniebach Thu 13-Apr-23 10:00:18

I too question how are their children better protected in America than here

I breathed a sigh of indifference.

The state they live in prohibits the photographing of children of celebrities www.rcfp.org/law-criminalizing-photography-celebrities-children-passed-california/#:~:text=Jerry%20Brown%20signed%20a%20bill,photograph%20the%20children%20of%20celebrities.%E2%80%A6&text=September%2027%2C%202013-,California%20Gov.,bill%20goes%20into%20effect%20Jan.
It's why you haven't seen pictures of Archie attending nursery unlike the RF children in this country.

volver3 Thu 13-Apr-23 10:02:27

Oh for goodness sake.

Do you really think that the children of people who have been subjected to death threats and targeted racist abuse are safer than your average US Child?

If so you are letting your hatred of H&M cloud your capabilities for reason.

Sparklefizz Thu 13-Apr-23 10:06:38

Glorianny They should be able to come and go as they wish.

But they do .... and could do so even more if they didn't create such drama around themselves with the "Will they, won't they" attend the Coronation, the rudeness and arrogance of not RSVPing within the time frame, etc etc.

Meghan pointed out
Earlier in our conversation about her goals for the life she’s creating here, she’d remarked upon how, if Archie were in school in the UK, she’d never be able to do school pickup and drop-off without it being a royal photo call with a press pen of 40 people snapping pictures.'

Meghan said:

'Sorry, I have a problem with that. That doesn’t make me obsessed with privacy. That makes me a strong and good parent protecting my child.'

nanna8 Thu 13-Apr-23 10:10:42

Just received this in my bird watching folder

VioletSky Thu 13-Apr-23 10:11:29

I feel for the children the same way I feel got Harry. None asked to be born into royalty and will never have anything resembling a normal life

merlotgran Thu 13-Apr-23 10:18:50

Makes you wonder why Meghan married into the Royal family in the first place doesn’t it.

Where’s Mrs. Merton when you need her?

Anniebach Thu 13-Apr-23 10:20:09

The Wales children are not photographed going to school, their parents not photographed on the school run.

Megan must have been thinking of the press coverage of
William and Harry when children, Diana informed the press
often.

maddyone Thu 13-Apr-23 10:20:34

Meghan had a completely normal life before she married Harry. Harry spent ten years in the army and served two terms in Afghanistan, although apparently he had SAS accompanying him whenever he left the compound on duty. Do you think either would like to live as a junior doctor, a teacher, a till assistant at Poundland, or engaging in any one of a multitude of normal jobs? They didn’t ask to be born into royalty but they certainly use it to live a privileged life that real normal people could only dream of.

LondonMzFitz Thu 13-Apr-23 10:22:53

I honestly think the British Media are guilty of whipping up a fervour in the Anti H&M / Pro W&K headlines. Meghan can do no right, Kate can do no wrong. Harry is "a traitor" (as quoted on this thread), William is a blooming saint.

And I think the British Media are guilty of distraction - do we want to see headlines of strikes, ever increasing costs of energy and food? Or play out, Eastenders style, a Royal family in conflict, the carefully chosen photographs and film of every facial tic. Which will sell papers / click bait?

We are being duped.

I hope Harry comes to the Coronation and is welcomed by the British Public that see through the current media hype. I hope people remember his Mum who was - quite literally - driven to her death while chased by media.

*dons tin hat for the hate coming my way
