I bet some of those policemen sympathised with the protesters! Shocking that the myth of the Grand National still causes deliberate cruelty.

The protesters caused the problem, they wound the horses up. No horse will run unless they want to. They really enjoy it. You can see the unseated horses just love to finish the race, jumping with great enthusiasm. You people don’t know what you are talking about.

Maybe the horses do love it but that is no reason for not reducing the dangers.

We have absolutely no idea whether the horses love it but I very much doubt it. They try to run with a broken leg because their instincts tell them to stay with the herd, do you think they love it then?

Youngsters love tombstoning. Maybe we should encourage it although it often results in serious injury and death. They love it so it’s ok.

Protesting in a way that stresses the horses does not help to reduce the risk. I’m fine with people protesting but not when it upsets the very horses they’re trying to protect. It isn’t the best way to get a message across imo.Just as I don’t agree with them stopping traffic when people are trying to get to work, hospital appointments or trying to get to a sick relative etc.

It's equally irrelevant to say that they 'love it' or they don't. Horses act from instinct, not emotion. If horses are grazing in a field and one of them sets off at a gallop for some reason, the whole lot of them will join in. Once they're sure that they're not being chased by a lion they all settle down again as though nothing happened. It's this instinct that is harnessed in racing, that's all. They don't like or dislike it, they just do it...

We have to stop anthromorphisising...
