Sunak’s immigration bill was he thought done and dusted, and one he was perfectly content with.
That was before the head bangers threatened him with disruption and division before the elections, if he didn’t cave into their demands.
He caved in. Power has been taken away from our judiciary and given to Braverman.
What a weak individual.

The weak Prime Minister
(128 Posts)Anarchy, chaos, strikes, protests, a useless corrupt police force, out of control crime.....all bringing the country to its knees. This is what happens when people have too much freedom. It brings out the worst in human nature. We need to get back to discipline and common decency. Sadly, there is little of that about.
The truth is, that the uncouth are in the majority and by sheer force of numbers are able to over-throw any suggestion of doing what is right for this country.
Anyone who is familiar with the prophecies of Nostradamus know what is happening. We are sowing the seeds of the next major conflict across Europe.
Crikey.
Your take on it.
This is the reality
Laws are made by a group of people called Parliament. The House of Commons The House of Lords The Queen. All parts of Parliament must agree to a law before it can start to happen. An idea for a new law is called a Bill.

How laws are made - UK Parliament
Judges do not make the Law.
But the point is parliament was content, the HoL were content, the judiciary and lawyers were content - it was a small minority of backbenchers who sounding like Enoch Powell has held parliament to ransom.
Threatening Sunak with disruption to the May elections.
Dithering about Raab as well isn't he.
Rishi will not go down in history as one of the great PMs.

Dithering about Raab as well isn't he.
Yes. I do wonder, because if the report totally vindicated Raab then job done nothing to see here, and he could have dealt with it in 5 minutes.
But now I’m wondering. The point is that Raab is Sunak’s biggest supporter so Sunak will be dragged kicking and screaming if he needs to sack him.
It is being suggested by Caroline Lucas that Sunak is in fact very right wing, he simply tries to hide it.

Goodness, luckily for you though there are some countries that meet your exacting requirements. Will you shortly be emigrating to China, or do you prefer North Korea?

It’s not going to be good for Sunak if he supports Raab and the civil servants take action as a result, which is a risk. Or, even worse for Sunak, if he is forced to change his mind and sack him in a few days after initially saying he won’t. Nothing surprises me these days.

People? Which people? Yourself included? A ridiculous comment!

Let us never forget that Hitler and the Nazi party were elected into power.

It’s a bloody odd reality if a dead woman has some say in British legislative and government processes.

And I thought it was all the fault of the EU!
Judges do not make the Law.
No, they interpret the law. And once the law has been made no-one has the right to override it. And no-one but judges have the right to interpret it when it is being applied.
I don’t understand why taking the time to read a document and think about its contents is a sign of weakness. This country has been used to knee jerk reactions, bluster, puff and pant from the previous prime minister. I prefer quiet, considered government overall and if the prime minister needs time to read a report, so what? It won’t be the only document on his desk.
I would rather someone gave time and research into a situation and problem to enable them to make a correct decision. This trial by media and mini experts that really know nothing, knee jerk reaction has got ridiculous. Rishi has many, many issues to tackle, the main ones, the economy and all these strikes, plus immigration control, must be priority. . I think what happening with these strikes is bringing this country down even further, everyone needs more and wants more. Are they such special cases? They are not, We need everyone whatever job the do to be paid fairly, Our us not country safer and more liberal, quite the reverse, which is what a lot must want.
I wouldn’t mind if Sunak did one thing that benefited the country. But his record to date does not leave one with much confidence.
The report does not clearly vindicate that bully, just as the report did not vindicate Patel. There is something very wrong with a system where employees cannot go to external arbitration and have confidence that the person making the final decision, has absolutely no irons in the fire, or indeed is best friends with the accused bully.
Many civil servants felt so aggrieved at the treatment they had received from Raab, and from every department he has worked in, that they willingly gave their names, because they must have been so very confident that his conduct was way below what is expected from a minister. Now Raab has those names - he cannot possibly work with those folk again.

“We need everyone whatever job the do to be paid fairly”
Indeed.
Wwm2 how do you have access to the report on Raab?
Yes from your argument there’s a problem with due process but that’s not the fault of Rishi Sunak - that’s the system in place. Although there might be an argument for a prime minister to have the final say over the conduct of individual ministers? Did the pm not appoint Raab in the first place?
This is what happens when people have too much freedom.
I find this statement particularly alarming Curtaintwitcher and wonder what freedoms you think should be taken away from us?
We are having freedoms eroded by this government ptetty regularly it seems to me!
I would rather someone gave time and research into a situation and problem to enable them to make a correct decision.
But this is a binary situation: either Raab bullied his staff or he didn't. If he did he has to go; if he didn't he will stay.
I am minded that if you have so many formal complaints against you for bullying - you are probably a bully.
I know I'm not a judge and don't have sight of the document currently with the PM but would be surprised if he doesn't have to go.
I would rather someone gave time and research into a situation and problem to enable them to make a correct decision.
That is exactly what the investigation of the bullying complaints has been doing for the last 5 months. The investigators have now reported. Do you not understand how investigations work and what their function is Allsorts?
The idea is that they did the work so that Sunak didn't have to waste what you clearly consider to be his valuable time.
