"Donald Trump sexually abused and defamed writer E Jean Carroll, a New York jury finds in civil case"

I hope its the start of what is due to this man.

His fan base will just ignore it. Everyone heard the way he spoke about Megan Kelly but they still made him president.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 09-May-23 21:32:40

Good news indeed. More revelations to come perhaps?

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 09-May-23 22:40:34

What concerns me is that even if he is found guilty of all the crimes he is accused of, he can still stand for President! If elected , how are the world’s leaders going to feel about having to deal with a convicted sex offender?

Wyllow3 Tue 09-May-23 22:45:50

Not all the crimes, not sure which would bar him.

maddyone Tue 09-May-23 23:22:06

Just seen this on the news.

HousePlantQueen Tue 09-May-23 23:27:18

According to the reporter on News at Ten tonight, this civil case, plus his other charges, are seen by his supporters as evidence of a campaign by "liberals" and is acting in his favour. What a strange country.

he is not convicted; it was a civil case.

Things just get weirder and weirder over in the US. Why even bother bringing him to trial if this is what happens ? Sometimes I think those Southerners are living in a parallel universe.

Trump's history makes it quite clear that he is a persistent sexual predator, a habitual liar, a tax evader, and a would-be dictator, yet nothing he does seems to deter his core supporters, and some of his antics may even encourage them. What does that say about the state of society in the U,S,A,? Depressing.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 10-May-23 06:23:49

There is a lot more to come though.

The one that interests me and I will follow closely is the January 6 enquiry.

Wyllow3 Wed 10-May-23 07:23:59

That matters, but I have a uncomfortable feeling he'll wriggle out of it..... may only be the tax related cases that end his chances.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 10-May-23 07:34:49

I read that Smogg has defended Trump over the jury verdict.

What a crass, strange individual JRM is.

Grammaretto Wed 10-May-23 07:36:49

The cult of Trump.
If he shot someone in public, his followers would still support him.
You notice he's always inclusive in his own defence language. He uses we rather than I.

It's a liberal witch-hunt apparently.

BlueBalou Wed 10-May-23 07:51:09

Obnoxious individual.
What a pity it wasn’t a criminal trial.
I do wonder at the mentality of his acolytes, god help America.

Iam64 Wed 10-May-23 08:14:05

He’s planning to appeal. Continues to insist he’s never met the victim. He says he’d never get a fair trial in New York as it’s a democratic state. To top his status as a victim, he says the Judge was a Clinton appointment.

Needless to say, his supporters are cheering him on. The idea this man could be the republican candidate is very hard to believe.

I said something very similar to a friend yesterday. No matter what he did - or does - there will always be those who blindly follow him.

True or not I would have thought he is so discredited that no way would he stand a chance of being President again. How can he possibly be national leader? But apparently he will still be selected and possibly elected. Mad!

henetha Wed 10-May-23 09:28:41

It is mad. Utterly bonkers that such a man can fool so many people into voting for him. Surely eventually justice will prevail?

It seems that Trump thinks he can kiss any attractive female he wishes, wether she wants it or not, the jury said that is sexual assault. The woman was awarded £5m for defamation because he called her a liar, it was a civil case and he probably did kiss her. So he deserved everything he got

What I’m concerned about is that she also accused him of rape, for which there seemed to be no basis at all. The woman was shown smiling as she left court, I would not have been if he had only been convicted of defamation.

There being no conclusive evidence of rape to enable a guilty verdict to be reached does not mean that he did not rape her Katie59.

I assume that those who continue to support Trump, both male and female, consider this sort of behaviour is perfectly acceptable. Manly stuff, what real men do and real women want. Like the memorable ‘locker room talk’. Unbelievable.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 10-May-23 10:38:36

I really cannot understand how Donald Trump is still being considered as a candidate for POTUS.

I can only hazard a guess that it is his make America great again soundbite along with the visuals of tent cities cropping up in many States which apparently have increased since Joe Biden has been in office.

MaizieD Wed 10-May-23 10:50:34

^ To top his status as a victim, he says the Judge was a Clinton appointment.^

This is precisely why appointments to the judiciary should never be in the gift of a politician.

MaizieD Wed 10-May-23 10:53:48

along with the visuals of tent cities cropping up in many States which apparently have increased since Joe Biden has been in office.

Is this because although Biden is desperately injecting money into the US economy to encourage growth the US Central Bank is stymying his efforts by constantly increasing interest rates?
