I disagree. Of course it is only a Bill. I wouldn’t comment on any legislation without having read it!

So,according to the world atlas the UK has 40 more people per /km2 than Germany and yet Germany has taken 2.2 million people. Rather more than the UK don't you think?

I believe that there should be no second chamber that has unelected representatives. Who exactly do these unelected people represent? Not me! So I’m not interested in their opinions on anything. When we have a properly elected second chamber, I’ll sit up and listen. Until then, I don’t care what any of them say.

The H of L regularly prevents the H of C from doing stupid things. Here's a link to the record of govt defeats in the H of L, if you can find the time to read it. It's quite interesting actually and demonstrates why we need this second chamber.

I think that inevitably the people traffickers will use longer, more dangerous routes which are unlikely to be intercepted by border control. The death toll will rise and those who do manage to land will be completely without protection from gangmasters pimps and other ruthless individuals able to take advantage of victims unable to ask for help or report crime to the Police. Can you imagine what it will be like for these people?

There is huge opposition to this bill for all sorts of reasons ranging from legal, humanitarian and workability etc.

I think it is inevitable that it is watered down.

If the Lords were saying things you disagreed with I suspect you’d sing a different tune. I repeat, I will not take any notice of what they say or don’t say until they are elected!

We frequently hear that the Goverment is committed to "delivering on the people's priorities". I guess they see this bill as a means of doing just that.
I find it unlikely that immigration is what most people are concerned about at the moment.

I wonder if the Government have decided what will happen to the approx 160,000 folk who are here as refugees from Ukraine. They were told they could stay for 3 years . Over a year has gone. No sign that it will be safe to return any time soon. Hope and pray they will all be allowed to stay.

Eh? The ONS reckons that net immigration in 2022 was 504,000.

I see Braverman was/has again been told that using defunct RAF quarters for the asylum seekers is a none runner and utterly unsuitable. Wonder if she will need advice?

Councils are taking court action because they had well developed plans for the site.

There’s speculation that net migration could be set to reach record levels. The Telegraph reports figures to be released this month reveal level of net migration to UK could be nearly double 504k.

I believe the ons will publish a report on 25 May so wait until then for clarity.

Interesting that the nationalscot is in favour of having more migrants in Scotland.

I don’t believe this to be true ! We can welcome migration and still retain our own traditional values (think the coronation showed the world we value our tradition, culture and ethos)

This current bill is abhorrent and I hope it doesn’t get passed.

I always find it amusing (and alarming) that many Brits appear to loathe migration whilst tucking into their Indian Take away, driving their Asian car and holidaying in Spain and also insist on still calling British Migrants “ex-pats” and conveniently forgetting how the commonwealth was “acquired”

I agree we need to address the way people are coming across in small boats, but I’d rather see the focus on the Traffikers, yes need to protect and control our borders - but let’s not forget we have countrywide skills shortages and vacancies across a myriad of sectors, including but not limited to, Teachers, Nurses, Doctors, IT and general care workers. We need a whole new approach to economic migration and a much better process for asylum seekers, ooh and stop giving the French millions of our hard earned ££££’s

On the point of “doing away” with the HoL, this would prove highly dangerous as any elected HoC with a large majority could literally pass any legislation/laws they wanted.

However I think HoL needs reviewing, perhaps 25% should be made up of ex-MPs, equal numbers for all parties, the 50% elected, and the remaining 25% “nominated” - think that would give good balance - just a thought

This illegal immigration, but we can’t keep having thousands arriving going to hotels, I do think if illegal then surely anything is better than what they say tbey are leaving for, and it has bigger money making gangs now it’s all so wrong. They should maybe spend more on catching the gangs . I just don’t know it’s a mess.
