Eurovision shouldn’t have been in the UK

I must admit I was surprised we won last year, even though it was a great song & a bit too good for Eurovision. I thought after Brexit we’d get even less points than usual ( 30 points on average 😂 ) but we won!
Maybe Europe’s glad we’re out of the EU & that was their ‘thank you’ 😄

All the expenses they cost to the host country. As usual, Britain gets it wrong. Did anyone else offer?

Absolutely. Zelensky is actually Britain’s biggest fan and he has praised this country many times. Of course he’s feeling disappointed that Eurovision can’t be held in Ukraine under the present circumstances.

The Government offered subsidised tickets to the contest for displaced Ukrainian refugees so there will, we hope, be a large contingent of people from Ukraine there.

I don't think we should over-react to this which was probably just a casual remark from a man who has far more important things on his mind and is doing brilliantly with his very difficult responsibilities. I don't suppose he meant anything unkind towards the UK whatsoever.
I support Eurovision in spite of some songs being awful. It's a wonderful, mad, entertainment and is a way of uniting countries through music. And there are some good songs sometimes!

It's a tiny, minuscule drop in the ocean, the Eurovision Song Contest is mainly funded by fees from overseas broadcasters.

The fees might be given by overseas Broadcasters but DID any other country offer to host? Maybe we were the only ones we always seem to be the Jasper Carrot character "Wiggy gets it right",but in reality wrong.

I cannot see that was wrong in any way.
It was the decent thing to do.

(And the UK entry would have won under other circumstances)

Businesses will keep going instead of perhaps folding through lack of customers, rates and rent will be paid to the Council, so yes, it will benefit the city.
It will also showcase Liverpool to those viewers in other countries who might think about visiting, as well as to people in the UK who might not have thought of it as a city break.

That’s irrelevant. Any initiative which brings £30m into the economy would be welcomed with open arms by any city council. Regeneration is so important to the future economic stability.

It also matters that the inhabitants see some impact from the benefit to the council, wouldn’t you agree?

Well I shall be watching it tonight, with my adult daughter, we will be scoring every song, critique all the outfits, laugh a lot and just forget all the troubles in our world for a few short (but will feel endless!) hours - it’s a mad bonkers fest of hysteria and I’ll be joining it !!!

I would be even more radical than President Zelinsky and ask why the UK is still taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest?

You have rammed down our throats that you do not consider yourselves, or want to be part of Europe, so why take part in Europe's Song contest?

As to Zelinsky, his point is perfectly valid, and if you are offended by his making it, well and good, but quite frankly the man has far more serious problems on his mind than the Eurovision Song Contest and whether the British public in general is offended or Liverpool in particular.
