Who are the honourable exceptions?
Are you irritating in RL? (light hearted)
I think someone got out of the wrong side of the bed
According to the headline report in the guardian today.
Starmer “if you think that our job in 1997 was to rebuild a crumbling realm, that in 1964 it was to modernise an economy overly dependent on the kindness of strangers, in 1945 to build a new Britain, in a volatile world, out if the trauma of collective sacrifice, in 2024 it will have to be all three”
Starmer then went on to pad out some of the policies he intends to introduce, including investment in a green agenda, expansion of NHS staff, votes at 16, fundamental reform of workers rights, recognise people’s need for stability, order, security.
“We must understand that there are precious things-in our way of life, in our environment, and our communities - we must protect, preserve and pass on to future generations.
The Tories do nothing to protect our rivers and seas, our NHS, or families or nation”

So whitewavemark2 if that is what you think, you should discard your rose tinted specs. From the last debacle that the labour party left the country in, and after the joint efforts of Blair and Brown, perhaps Starmer is going to pin his hopes on what is left of the gold reserves, decimated by Blair and Brown. Can you honestly believe a word that the opposition say? If so you really are gullible
Please could you explain what good a pile of gold actually does in a modern economy.
Thanks for posting that information Siope. I wish there more of it on GN (and in the media generally, when sweeping statements are made).
I would imagine there would be other factors at play too.
I’ve ignored the silly posts who say that anyone who says women have a penis won’t get my vote.
But it is time I think to put the record straight.
Approximately between 1-2% of individuals born are intersex. That is they have both male and female r characteristics. The parents decide with the advice if the doctor on the gender of the child.
So what did Starmer actually say!
“99.9% of women don’t have penises”
Can anyone see a problem with that statement?
The term now is dsd. And those people have asked repeatedly not to be dragged into the debate. Starmer was responding to the debate about single sex spaces and men in those spaces. He is already changing his approach after watching the debacle in Scotland so at least he has learnt something from that. Wes Streeting answered this question in a straightforward manner and my guess is no one will ask him again. They will keep asking Starmer so my strongest advice would be to sort out a response that doesnt make him look ridiculous.
dsd?
Yes.
Now if you can persuade him to explain that in the media, using figures rather than words, it would make him look knowledgeable, rather than frightened if the backlash from the TRA brigade.
A politician speaks the truth

He prob wishes he hadn’t answered in the way he did now! He needs to answer this question honestly and forget trying to appease the trans lobby.
Thanks, growstuff. I am less and less inclined to post evidence based research, because, as you can see from posts after mine, it’s mostly whistling in the wind. I’m not sure if it’s because some people don’t, won’t, or can’t read carefully, because they don’t understand or just gloss over statistics, or because they don’t believe anything that challenges their worldview.
Please keep doing it Siope, there are those of us who appreciate it and read it.

Hear hear, it’s always good to see evidence based research. It’s such a pity that not everybody reads it and questions their beliefs as a result- I don’t understand why.
There WAS no debacle in Scotland !!The bill was passed across all parties .The "safe spaces" weren't affected...no more than they are without the bill. Can any of you remember checking whether someone in a womens loo is male?
I'm quite sure some of the tiny % of those transtioning may have used womens loos as going into a mens dressed as a woman is asking for trouble .
Volver repeatedly told you all that womens rights are NOT affected ,but you seem to prefer to gossip and spread the lies instead of the truth of the situation .What a sad state of affairs
Thinking about 18-21 year olds voting the impact of the date of the 2019 election on student votes has been well documented. www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-50221335
An organised student vote can change an MP.
But the idea that all young people vote Labour is wrong. In student areas they may but in other areas with many young voters they vote Conservative commonslibrary.parliament.uk/general-election-2019-voting-patterns-in-student-seats/
16year olds will be just as unpredictable

Any politician who believes women can have a penis will never get my vote
But you do know that it is quite possible, don't you? And for men to have a vagina made out of their ex penis?
You may disagree, but it is quite possible.

I like to give sources for things when I can.
I hear the cry that "everyone is entitled to their opinion" and of course they are, but when that opinion is based on untruths or ignorance then I don't give that opinion much credence.
I hope that there is a "silent majority " of people out there listening to the facts of the matter and not just making up their minds based on hearsay and lies.
Thanks, Casdon and Volver.

16 year olds wouldn’t need to put down there phones to vote….. if we modernised the system ! Or they could just acquire a postal vote …took me 35 seconds to fill it out and seal the envelope!
Personally I wouldn’t want a modernised system - electronic voting would surely be open to all sorts of accusations of fiddling - look at America.
Another aspect of voting across the pond, since the equipment is presumably expensive, from all I’ve gathered from my sister who’s lived there for 40 years, polling stations are quite a lot fewer than the equivalent here, often a fair distance away, so cater for large numbers, and people often have to queue for ages.
No system is going to be perfect, but I’ll stick with the good old X with a stubby pencil on a string, thanks.
I am prepared to overlook any statements regarding trans rights from politicians because, with all due respect to the trans community, I think there are a dozen other things more important. Underfunding of public services, slow privatisation of NHS, lack of NHS dentists, giving permission for water companies to pump sh&t into the rivers, need I continue? Those citing the women with penis argument are desperately excusing themselves for voting for this abhorrent Tory crew again.
I think its self indulgence HPQ.

Yes I so agree. And yes it is self indulgence.
Lilyflower - what is your source for the taxation demands that you quoted?
The remarkable assumptions (or claimed knowledge) from some GN posters on how people vote, never ceases to amaze me.
I can’t /don’t vote Conservative
Labour have a leader afraid to say females don’t have a penis-so that will be the party line.
Lib Dem’s quite happy to endorse the idea that males can become females and said
transphobic behaviour included using phrases such as a “biological man” or “biological woman”; advocating for separate-sex facilities;
So forget their support for female rights.
(should fit in well with the party whose leader can’t say females don’t have a penis)
Greens get funding from a firm selling puberty blockers for children.
Sad that you decide (quite incorrectly) that anyone concerned by these issues must automatically be a Conservative voter.
Thinking this is important doesn’t automatically negate concern about any other issues.
