They have told so many lies it’s difficult to believe them now.

Omid Scobie is telling everyone on twitter that no one from the royal family has "reached out" to Meghan and Harry.

Hmmm, my initial thoughts: it could only be British paparazzi, because American public really doesn't care that much about them. And a two-hour chase? Where on earth were they going, and why didn't the driver just ignore the pp?

Also, if you are a celeb and attending a banquet, hire a limo with dark windows, don't call a taxi. This just seems odd to me.

I don't think the British paparazzi are that bothered with them any more.

She had just been given an award as Woman of Vision, I think, perhaps it was because of that?

It seems that the truth is somewhat different….
NYPD Chief says no chase, H&M requested to go by a circuitous rote to where they were staying, no chase ever happened (taxi driver also confirmed this). They had a NYPD escort at all times.
NY CCTV Department deny they have any evidence of a chase on CCTV.
There are photos on Twitter of Meghan happily smiling, as is Doria, Harry photographing the person taking their photo, in the back of a taxi, no seatbelts and the three of them look relaxed and unperturbed.
🤷🏼‍♀️

Thanks, BlueBalou

Bluebelle somewhere amid all the claims lies the truth.
It sounds like a publicity stunt.

The chase was before the taxi driver picked them up. Reports describe that cars following them were being driven recklessly. There is film on this site of the taxi and photographers trying to get a shot. They have 2 police cars escorting them. It looks pretty scary www.tmz.com/2023/05/17/prince-harry-meghan-markle-followed-paparazzi-car-chase/

Edith54 Wed 17-May-23 21:24:50

Glorianny In that clip they don't appear to be 'escorted by 2 police cars' because the cars go off to the right whereas the taxi carries on.

The voice on this video is British.

How horrible for Harry. I can't imagine how I'd feel, knowing my mum died that way, and the British media scum continuing to hound them like that.

MrsNemo Wed 17-May-23 21:53:58

It's almost incredible to think that the 'chase' took place for all of two hours - and in New York. As others have said, the traffic hardly moves in some areas. I wonder why their driver didn't call ahead to the nearest Police Station and simply drive there?

Namsnanny Wed 17-May-23 22:01:48

The taxi driver who they used (why?) said there was no chase, as far as he was concerned.
They asked him to drive around the city for a while. One of the reasons put forward was so they could visit a friend without the photographers snapping them.
A storm in a tea cup.

It smacks of desperation to me. So I’m a nasty old cynic but it defies belief.

MerylStreep Wed 17-May-23 22:25:37

Am I the only one who counted 4 paps.
Meghan didn’t look very worried in the back of the taxi.
No motorbikes, no scooters, no racing cars.

volver3 Wed 17-May-23 22:52:42

The thing that defies belief is the absolute disregard for what actually happened and everyone deciding they know the truth, while just making stuff up.

What a world we live in. 😔

Where were they trying to get to?

If a hotel then it was a long way from the venue in Manhattan although traffic is slow in that area.

It sounds as if the public was in more danger if paparazzi drove on the pavements and the wrong way up one-way streets.

maddyone Wed 17-May-23 23:23:55

British media scum

Hmm, not keen on that language.

Were they chased? Who knows? They’re not hurt, nor killed (don’t think any of us would want that) so no story here, me thinks.

Callistemon21 Wed 17-May-23 23:30:42

Their spokesperson has said:
"Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Ms Ragland were involved in a near catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi."

A police spokesperson has said:
"they do not believe the chase was "near catastrophic" and described a "bit of a chaotic scene".

Why did they drive round and round a few streets for an alleged two hours (other reports say 1 hour 15 minutes instead of going straight to their destination, as they had their own security and a police escort with them for protection?

🤔

Namsnanny Thu 18-May-23 00:09:49

What amazes me is the lack of seat belts!

Cold Thu 18-May-23 00:42:22

What I really don't understand is why the got out of their security convoy of blacked out SUVs where they couldn't be photographed - to get into an ordinary NY city taxi that was less secure and without the privacy features? It seems like a bizaare decision.

Cold Thu 18-May-23 00:49:08

If you watch the video link carefully at the end you will notice that the Police do not appear to be escorting them as the police cars turn right at the traffic lights whereas H&M' taxi turns left. As I said in my previous post - I don
t understand why they left the relative safety of the security convoy for an insecure taxi

nanna8 Thu 18-May-23 00:52:34

If you are travelling at approximately 20-25 k per hour you maybe don’t actually need seatbelts I suppose. It must have been one of those freaky no traffic days in New York.
