Martin Lewis - speaking sense in a myriad of lies!

It was a delight to see Martin Lewis on a normally miserable BBC Sunday morning politics show. Sadly it is unlikely he will be invited back soon as he holds politicians to account, speaks sense and sensibly, and best of all: knows what he is talking about across a significant range of topics. It is said he is widely feared by the Tories and certain journalists are trying, in vain, to find some dirt with which to smear him. We need more people like Martin Lewis calling out the truth and helping us all understand why the country is in such a mess!

Totally agree CvD66, he's a breath of fresh air and has saved people hundreds of pounds with his good advice. Long may he continue to hold politicians to account.

Good man

Fleurpepper Mon 22-May-23 09:52:06

Yes, agreed.

Wyllow3 Mon 22-May-23 09:59:54

He's helped so very many - and not charged- for ages!

Why are they trying to smear him - what has he done to "offend"?

(I don't follow him closely)

I don’t watch it myself ( not an early bird) but DH says he’s quite often on Good Morning Britain on ITV

Happygirl79 Mon 22-May-23 11:33:24

This government know that people love Martin Lewis and he is seen as the people's champion.
That's why they don't like him

Gillycats Mon 22-May-23 11:39:52

He’s a legend. I can’t even imagine why people don’t sign up to his emails. He’s saved us thousands of £’s over the years. I firmly believe children should be taught about finances at school. It’s probably the most important thing they can be taught.

Soozikinzi Mon 22-May-23 12:12:01

Martin Lewis is excellent he's set up.a finance course for schools . He should be Chancellor ! Although he's very successful and wealthy now he really understands the concerns of the common people . Sadly that seems unusual these days .

He was asked for his advice during lock-down by Rishi, who actually acted on some of it we are told. Pity he wasn't taken on as a Government advisor permanently.

NanaDana Mon 22-May-23 12:52:24

I think if he stood for Parliament he'd be a shoe-in for a seat, as he quite rightly has so many admirers. He was a member of the Lib Dems until the age of 24, but has described himself as a "floating voter" since then. Apparently he was turned down by the House of Lords (no reason given), which is ironic when you consider how much dead wood there is sitting in there, getting paid for not achieving anything. He has recently made some positive noises about "going into politics", so we can but hope. He'd get my vote.

JaneJudge Mon 22-May-23 12:55:32

He is good

GrannyGravy13 Mon 22-May-23 13:54:02

CvD66 I saw the interview on LK Sunday morning, I have a lot of respect for Martin Lewis, he has saved us £’s over the years.

He has/is working closely with this Government as he has said repeatedly on his own evening show.

Where have you heard that the press are looking to smear him, as I have only ever seen positive news items/stories on him and the MSE site.

Oreo Mon 22-May-23 13:57:19

I haven't seen any press or media attempts to smear him either so maybe that’s not true at all.Just a thought hey?

Wyllow3 Mon 22-May-23 14:08:41

Just googled and found in the Daily Mail

" Martin Lewis' wife Lara Lewington wows in resurfaced lingerie shoot".

duh....

(yet to find accusations)

Oreo Mon 22-May-23 14:09:50

Wish I wowed in my lingerie😳😬

NanaDana Mon 22-May-23 15:01:57

Wish I knew what "resurfaced lingerie" was. Could it be stuff that's been lurking undiscovered in the back of your knicker drawer for so long that it's in danger of coming back into fashion? The mind boggles...

Maggiemaybe Mon 22-May-23 15:33:44

Or in my case the lacy size 8 stuff that’s been lurking at the back of my knicker drawer so long I can barely fit a leg into the waist band. There’d be no wowing from me.

A lie is half way round the world before the truth has its boots on. 😉

He saved me some money and I always read his newsletter.

Fflaurie Wed 24-May-23 11:15:55

I wish he would run for Prime Minister, I'd vote for him.

Casdon Wed 24-May-23 11:24:35

I really hope he stays out of politics altogether, because whoever is in government the public need people fighting for their rights and bank balances. I’m all for people’s champions like him.

Yearoff Wed 24-May-23 11:41:42

I saw him comment about grumblings about his use of bad language on a programme. (I think he said cr*p) He said he was responsible not the bbc as it was a live programme. I’ve not seen any hate campaigns or the like

RakshaMK Wed 24-May-23 12:10:03

Totally agree 👍

I too have saved money thanks to his advice. I challenged my council tax banding and won. The LA had to refund me several thousand pounds back tax which I spent on a new fence (high enough so my crazy neighbour could not poke her ugly snoot over it) and patio. I also used a site recommended by him (Resolver) to claim money from a couple of companies which were slow to settle.
