Ed Davey says they can. Keir Starmer isn’t sure. Can women have a penis?

Wheniwasyourage Wed 24-May-23 14:06:33

In answer to the OP, no she can't. What's more, who can I vote for? I will never vote Tory, even if the Angel Gabriel stood in my constituency, and how can I vote for a party whose leader doesn't know what I am? (Hint, I'm a woman, adult human female, and I don't have a penis).

SueDonim Wed 24-May-23 14:08:20

No.

People who have genital surgery acquire a facsimile of an organ, but not the real thing, imo.

A woman can have a penis but it doesn’t make her a man.

We’re getting into riddle territory here! smile

It's down to chromosomes not physical appearance a woman has xx a man has xy no kind of treatment or surgery can change that as far as I am aware.
Some babies can be difficult to decide what sex they are by just looking but the chromosome test shows.
Riddle or widdle Fanny?smile

A big no.

Why cannot trans women be content to be simply - trans women. Given the same respect as any other human being. With or without surgery or hormone treatment, beards, penis. Wearing a dress if they feel like it, or joggers, leggings or even a grass skirt if the mood takes them.

But allow that XX and XY is the ultimate arbiter of biological sex. And that in certain settings - all described many times on GN, women do not want to share the same space... for reasons also outlined many times also.

Trans women and women share various interests - I'm sure. But our lived experiences will be different.

TW, with full male genitalia who insist they are women are, IMO, practising another form of misogyny - by defining womanhood - to their advantage. And it gives them power over women which they wouldn't otherwise have.

NO, a woman cannot have a penis.

Theexwife Wed 24-May-23 14:58:23

I do not think a woman can have a penis however I will refer to someone by whatever title, pro noun, or gender they want to be, it doesn’t affect me but may be a big deal to them.

Yes. 100%, unqualified, wholehearted yes. I love and respect my trans sisters, and their genitalia is as female as mine is.

This is a joke right? Otherwise what planet are you on.

Hetty58 Wed 24-May-23 15:06:11

Here we go again (ad nauseam). Are we talking about biological sex - or gender? Why do so many on here not know the definitions - or the difference?

A big no.

An even bigger NO

Smileless2012 Wed 24-May-23 15:10:03

Well I'm talking about biological sex as the vast majority of respondents are doing.

A woman cannot have a penis and a surgically manufactured appendage doesn't qualify which is why there are women and trans women.

Blossoming Wed 24-May-23 15:11:08

No.

FannyCornforth Wed 24-May-23 15:14:34

I can’t say that I blame Starmer for sitting on the fence.

Whatever the bloke says will only stir up the ghastly business again.

I think that we can all guess what he really thinks.

I know that he should be standing up for women, but he’s got an awful lot on his plate.

As I’ve said before, in relation to Brexit, I just want Labour to get over the line next year

Whitewavemark2 Wed 24-May-23 15:24:19

99.9% of women are born without a penis. FACT

Fleurpepper Wed 24-May-23 15:31:14

Let's flip the question. Can a man have a vagina?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 24-May-23 15:39:43

99.9% of men are born without a vagina.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 24-May-23 15:42:40

So the fact is that a tiny minority of babies are born with both genitalia intact. The parents usually decide the sex of the baby with the help of the doctors.

So the fact is that a female can have a penis. I don’t know what all the fuss is about tbh.

Rosie51 Wed 24-May-23 15:43:24

How are you defining women Whitewavemark2? And men?

Shinamae Wed 24-May-23 15:46:32

🤦‍♀️

Whitewavemark2 Wed 24-May-23 15:46:52

Sorry? Is it not obvious from my posts?

Rosie51 Wed 24-May-23 15:48:07

No babies are born with a formed penis and a formed vulva. A tiny percentage of babies are born with indeterminate genitalia. Nowadays advance testing methods allow the medics to know what sex the baby is, male or female.

In the past the decision was often made by medical staff- and the 'easiest' was to cut off the penis and/or scrotum- and designate baby as female.

it is amazing that so many here, and elsewhere, are obsessed with this ?!?

I remember reading a great deal in the 1960's about babies in some parts of the world whose gender was not clear at birth. As WWM says doctors would help parents to decided on the sex which sometimes led to psychological anguish in later life. I found these links on line whilst trying to locate the literature I had studied and found these:
8. The clitoris can form a penis – and vice versa
In some forms of gender confirmation surgery, the clitoris can be enlarged with hormones to form a penis. In other cases, the penile glans can be reduced in size and relocated to create a clitoris.
www.theguardian.com/society/2017/jan/23/clitbait-10-things-you-didnt-know-about-the-clitoris
www.pbs.org/independentlens/content/two-spirits_map-html/ This map gives links to countries where this phenomenon may be more of an issue. Of course it may all just be AI these days...

I thought that is what I said. But honestly I really really have no inclination to get into conversation about this, as I think there is a lot of nonsense talked.

Did you do O Level Biology?

How do you know AmberSpyglass?
Actually, don't answer that question please!

And saying their genitalia is as female as mine is is meaningless as we know nothing about you.
