Professor Kathleen Stock’s talk this evening at the Oxford Union was disrupted by hundreds of trans rights activists. She told the BBC is isn’t hate speech to say males can’t be women.

The talk seems to have been welcomed, with half the audience giving a standing ovation though chanting from trans activists outside could be heard.

*And actually a lot of working class women are happy to share with transwomen, but it's OK apparently for a group of privileged middle class women to tell them they shouldn't be.*
Another sweeping unvalidated statement from . . .

It's a small sample, but much less privileged than GN

Glorianny, You know all about all GN posters?
Wow!

I'm going to be very careful to highlight here that asc is an umbrella term and autistic people present very differently in terms of development.

There are many areas of development and autistic people may be behind in some areas or may be ahead in some areas

For the father to state "with someone with autism that is definitely the case" is categorically wrong and I would not be challenging that for no reason

Just incase any doubt I know autistic people fall under an umbrella of beautiful difference were ever put forward

Based on my SEN training and experience

That's more of a case study than research that can be extrapolated to represent the views of women generally, though.

You've shared it at least once before, and it's interesting, but not something that could ever be used as the basis for policy making.

None of us know who has had SEN training or who has had experience of neurodivergence on this thread.

Best not get into an I know better than you spat

VioletSky Sun 04-Jun-23 13:20:23

No attempt to do that or there is another card I would have played lol

Namsnanny Sun 04-Jun-23 13:24:58

.....^repeat the whole process again^ ....

I wonder if the whole point isnt simply to browbeat persuade as many people as poss into accepting the lie that biology doesnt matter.
If people will accept a known fact as untrue, they will accept anything.
What better way of policing them than getting them to police their own minds?

But that’s exactly what VS’s quoted response above is.

VioletSky Sun 04-Jun-23 13:30:17

I was laughing at myself so absolutely no need to take any offence

I didn't mean to try and prove being all knowledgeable or more knowledgable

I was just trying to show that I have had enough training and experience to know how large an umbrella ASC is and how diverse

VioletSky Sun 04-Jun-23 13:32:31

You can believe my word on that or disbelieve it and use it against me in some way but I'm telling you straight

So I'll take a break until it's been decided what I meant or if I'm allowed to speak for myself

What is AHF, please? I tried Google but it didn't help.

Adult Human Female.

... you probably got "Acute Heart Failure" from your Google search!

Thank you, Dickens and Mollygo!

Asian Hockey Federation was what kept coming up!

Smileless2012 Sun 04-Jun-23 14:05:26

It's not a case of believing or not believing your word VS. Even those with no training or with limited or no direct experience of autism know what a broad term autism is, and the opinions I've seen expressed here are just as valuable as those who do have experience and/or training.

Unfortunately Smileless it was response to comments asserting I did not understand autism is diverse before it and responses asserting I then used it as a means of superior knowledge afterwards

I can quote them if you want?

Smileless2012 Sun 04-Jun-23 14:11:16

Yes if you wouldn't mind VS, I must have missed comments saying you don't understand that autism is diverse.

VioletSky Sun 04-Jun-23 14:17:22

^But as a parent with a diagnosed autistic child and another in the process^

I have two family members with an ASC diagnosis, and plenty of in service training on the subject. I still wouldn’t be conceited enough to claim to know about the impact of ASC on others.

Smileless I have not done this, I've said autism is individual

The father has in the article though made a broad statement about those with autism developmentally and I'm surprised at different interpretations

VioletSky Sun 04-Jun-23 14:22:49

Smileless Here are the comments assuming I meant something I did not

Interestingly, there are other commenters claiming experience or education in autism and at no point did I think they were trying to prove themselves more knowledgeable. I assumed like me they were simply sharing that they have had some training in the subject which is a positive thing

VioletSky Sun 04-Jun-23 14:25:40

Whoops

Smileless2012 Sun 04-Jun-23 14:38:56

It may not have been your intention VS but to state that you have an autistic child and another in the process (I assume you mean the process of being diagnosed), and to then go on to say "this father demonstrably does not understand autism, mental health or his own child" does suggest your knowledge and experience supersedes this father's.

Especially when you then went on to refer to your SEN training and experience.

VioletSky Sun 04-Jun-23 14:40:23

I've demonstrated my point very thoroughly Smileless

By all means don't agree but assigning thoughts to me goes too far

Smileless2012 Sun 04-Jun-23 14:41:33

It did come across as if you know more about this father's son's condition than the father himself.

VioletSky Sun 04-Jun-23 14:42:31

That was not my intention

It is up to you if you believe that or use it against me

Smileless2012 Sun 04-Jun-23 14:43:34

Where am I assigning thoughts to you VS? Since when was explaining one's interpretation of what someone's posted been assigning them thoughts?

Smileless2012 Sun 04-Jun-23 14:45:21

I posted @ 14.38 "It may not have been your intention ......" and I am not using anything against you VS.
