Yes, just as posters on here know that "nobody I know ever discuss Brexit." Whereas the topic frequently crops up in my circles. Still, they know better.

Is there anyone here on GN still prepared to stand and say that it is not- and give evidence to the effect?

Logically there is no other way forward for the U.K. other than closer working with the EU.
It will happen.
We simply have to get rid of the shambles of a government, which appears to have done nothing of any note for at least 7 years, other than give copious amounts of tax payers money away to its supporters including the right wing press, and trashed everything of value in our society.

Not insulting at all- I have spent enough time in North Norfolk to make the comment
Yet again, somebody who claims to know better than the people who actually live there (and I use the word both in the sense of “vraiment ” as well as “actuellement”)
I take it that you haven't seen the latest disgraceful party Tory shenanigans GSM
A room full of kids partying the night away
Do you know something, my SIL brought my little granddaughters around to sit on the lawn , the youngest needed a wee , fancy having to agonise if that was allowed
All the while the Tories were living it large
The apologists need to stop
Right now
What sort of punishment do you have in mind?
For what it’s worth I am one of the people in the Labour Party who are backing Keir in his ‘we have to make Brexit work’ approach. But I will never ever forget that night when the results came in. It was like a living nightmare. I know how I felt that night. Johnson was/is a liar. Everything he said about Brexit was a lie. Turkey joining the EU? I heard him lie. Just as I heard him lie in Parliament about the parties. Those lies have brought about his downfall but his lies about Brexit remain and he will never be brought to justice for than. And that makes me angry.
I see the crystal ball has come out again with the predictions.
I think we should file that under the same as the ferries etc won’t run. 😂

‘Other parties will force Starmer’ and so on Fleurpepper 👎
Wishful thinking on your part. Bet you anything there’ll never be free movement of people ever again in Britain.
Maybee70 that was seven years ago, move on!
Why should I? Oh, because you tell me to. . How patronising.

Oh dear! I have developed a terrible fascination with this thread and find myself checking yet again to see if it’s still alive. How long will it keep going? How many times will the OP try to keep it alive? After it finally dies how long will it be before the OP tries to reincarnate it in another, slightly different form?
If only we could just let it pass away in peace.
I think we will all pass away in peace before that happens.
Setting out Britain’s relationship with Europe under a Labour government, Starmer will say: “With Labour, Britain will not go back into the EU. We will not be joining the single market. We will not be joining a customs union.” He will add: “We will not return to freedom of movement to create short term fixes. Instead we will invest in our people and our places, and deliver on the promise our country has.”
That’s from the Labour Party website.
So sorry op, think you’re in for ( even more )disappointment.
Let me assure you that I don’t move in rarefied circles and that there is no question of choosing not to talk about it. It’s not the elephant in the room. I have many more interesting things to talk about, unlike it seems you Fleurpepper. It seems to be your sole topic of conversation here - and you don’t live in the UK or the EU. Bizarre.

Yorkshire was full of huge posters saying give us our country back and peoples houses had leave posters in windows. It must have had an effect on the way people voted. There was one house with pro EU stuff: the day after the result I knocked on their door to thank them. She said she worked in road transport and she could see the problems that Brexit would cause. I was so ashamed that foreign students visiting Fountains Abbey saw those posters and were made to feel so unwelcome. This was in Sunaks constituency.

If Brexit had turned out to be a good thing, the gloating would be never ending. As it is, no wonder those rarified circles would rather not talk about it- as it is such a mess.
Onwards, forwards, indeed. Can't wait for the GE and for the real discussions to begin- because onwards and forwards it will have to be. A coalition will be required, and other parties will force Starmer to renegotiate a closer relationship with EU, including Single Market. That will probably mean Free Movement.
BTW a report today show clearly that 'getting rid' of foreing workers has not led ot higher wages for British Workers.
OK I'll try one benefit of Brexit, (because I'm a big spender!) Our UK contactless limit has increased to £100 whereas while in the EU, Britain was bound by a £45 cap imposed on all member states.
Fancythat
like being outside and looking in on things
Speaking for myself, you couldn’t be more wrong if you tried.
I’ve never needed another person and certainly not another country/ countries to validate my self worth.
North Norfolk is rarified in so many ways, including politically? On what do you base that statement? Do you believe that I and my family and friends living throughout the UK and indeed the world who visit are rendered politically unaware upon reaching north Norfolk? How monstrously insulting.
If I was living on the Continent, I think I would be.
I would feel I wanted to talk with them about it.
The whole thing would affect me much more. For the things that have been talked about.
And it is a common ground topic of conversation.
The whole perspective would be different.
Like being outside, and looking in on things.
I approx know 400 people.
They have to be a mix of Leavers and Remainers.
Not one has mentioned Brexit in about 3 years? 5 years?
Old and young. More older than younger.
As I think I said previously, the "mistake" was made in 2016 or whatever year it was, of going by polls on this matter.
Cant see a politician of any flavour chancing that again in a very long while.
Imagine the egg on face if it went "wrong" again.
Politicians do not like being humiliated.
Yes, that must be it, very rarified circles. Do I remember right that one was a paid up member of Leave and a big admiror of Farage?
I did ask some friends to day about this 'no-one is talking about Brexit in RL' comment. And the replies were interesting.
'If Brexit was a success, they would be talking about it all the time' - and 'the subject has been hidden away, like the dodgy Uncle that supported Hitler' and a few more in the right vein.
Brexit will be a major subject come the GE, be it nex year or sooner, and when a new Government comes into power- especially if a coalition. Whether you like it or not, I'm afraid.
If moving in those very rarified circles, one is probably not aware that only 30%, and falling by the day, are still in favour of Brexit. Depending where you live (and I do love the North Norfolk coast, but ... it is rarified in so many ways, including politically, then I am not surprised.
Great entertainment however, piling on, rudeness, personal attacks, and so on. Be my guest- as you seem to relish in it all. Some of you to seem a bit (lot) obsessed, indeed.
The penny suddenly dropped, that that was probably the reason why some people voted for Brexit : because other countries ( 🇫🇷 ) don't follow the flipping rules
It's taken a while! 😁
But I'm sure you knew that anyway 😀

I don't think criticising anyone's teaching methods is particularly relevant here. I'm sure half my classes used to switch off when I recounted my lighthearted stories each day!
Anyway here's today's offering for anyone still reading......
15th June is a very important day in France because dogs are banned from beaches for the summer. I have been tiptoeing down to out sandy cove at 9 pm for the past few days so 🐕 can have a quick secret swim in the sea.
Anyway, at 3 pm this afternoon I go for a yummy ice cream at the port, and what do I see amongst all the families with their picnics, but at least a dozen dogs on the beach.

Dogs were banned on beaches in Suffolk during the summer months when I lived there. Not sure if it's the same now. Some people ignored the ban - it could have been that they'd some distance to the beach with their dog, only to find they couldn't take it to the beach. The certainly couldn't leave the dog in the car so what to do?
They said ‘we hold all the cards’ and that the NHS would benefit financially from it. I’ve no idea what has changed with fishing, something that had a huge amount of publicity even though its contribution to the economy was miniscule. We asked ‘what about Ireland’ but no one listened, and that is one of the reasons why Brexit took so long. We were going to get a great trade deal with America I think but I’m not aware of that happening. My grandchildren won’t have access to the Erasmus programme. Vote leave wouldn’t have won if it wasn’t for Johnson who is now totally discredited and proved to be a liar. The farmers have been totally let down. I don’t understand why people aren’t annoyed that the things they were promised never happened. And we still don’t have control of our borders. So what was it all about? And when the pandemic enquiry shows it’s findings I’m pretty sure that it will find that one of the reasons why we were so unprepared was because all the government and the PM could think about was Brexit ( along with Johnson’s divorce).

Fp Can you clarify something for me, please as a newcomer trying to get my head around some of these threads? You ask for a list of the positives of Brexit and yet in a previous post you state very insistently that Brexit isn’t done yet nor implemented in so many ways. Isn’t there something of a contradiction there? A list of positives for something that you say hasn’t happened?
It also begs the question that if Brexit isn’t done why you’re getting yourself in quite such a tiz about it!
For many years GNetters have asked what were the benefits of brexit?
The only answer seems to be "things are almost as bad in the EU"
So no benefits at all, let alone all those sunny uplands promised by the Leave Liars, led by liar in chief, Boris Johnson..

I had noticed it. The trouble is, these opinions are so entrenched that even through posters think they are hiding these views it’s part of their DNA that can’t be hidden.
