That’s one thing I have against the Labour Party here. Dissent is not allowed, they get expelled. The Liberals , our version of the Conservatives, are far more, well, liberal. Traces of the old communism. I predict the Labour Party will get on over there but within a year or two people will realise they are no better and possibly worse than the other mob. Full of great ideas, no substance.

Interesting to hear about Australian politics, and your last sentences ring a bell about politics here.

I am not going to vote for Keir Starmer's party, but I can do so safe in the knowledge that the Tories will not win in my constituency. If there was a danger that the Tories would win then I would hold my nose and vote for Starmer's party.
Do not try to imply that people who would like a fairer society are willing to risk a Tory government because it is just not true.

People who would like a fairer society are voting Labour, which by the way is led by Keir Starmer. And, they will get one. It may not be Utopia, the realists amongst us are not expecting that - but it will be fairer.

I wish I had your faith in them, I really do. They didn't support the Lords vote against the suppression of protest last night, and while I understand this would have gone against convention, it was not a good look for their support of freedom of speech.

Its a difficult and painful debate in many quarters, to be sure, but to make it the be all and end all of who we vote for?

In the Labour Party leadership election the right wing press delighted in picking that issue out to the ignoring of all others to push their agenda.

It's because people dont like being lied to, I would feel the same if a party was saying the earth is flat.
With regard to freedom of speech, I am a supporter of Starmer but dont agree with this decision. The idea that the labour party or any party are particularly committed to freedom of speech is I think naive.

The Parliament Acts of 1911 & 1949 curb power of the Lords to block Bills only. Last night, Lords were discussing a Statutory Instrument, not a Bill. Govt used SI to enact primary legislation, an unprecedented act.

I think it's significant, showing that Labour is in fact led by people who think that they need to appeal to a certain sort of voter to come to power, and not upset the right wing media. So they build policy not on any ideals or beliefs, but on what they think will win Tory votes. The problem is that they then become just another Tory party.

I think that after about two years of Starmer in power and people cannot see any change in public services or the NHS Wes accepted £200,000 from a donor with private health interests. People will want change the socialists who wanted the 10 pledges that starmer won the leadership campaign will have grown. Remember change comes from the grassroots up people working together. There will be a socialist government again like the one that brought us the NHS People working together to demand the radical change this country desperately needs. Other countries have had public ownership and a good health service for years.

I think for many of us, who will likely still vote Labour, the fact that a politician is prepared to lie about something so obvious to all, is concerning. If he'll lie about something we can all know to be false, then how many lies will he tell about things on which we have scant knowledge? Nobody wants to be taken for an absolute fool. If he said that of course 1% of cats were dogs would you trust his judgement in other areas?

Seems another left leaning MP has been deselected. Mick Whitley the MP for Birkenhead has spoken of his disappointment at being deselected. As he says, he is one of the few members of the industrial working class in the parliamentary labour party, and those voices should be heard.

I do know who Bob Gill is Grany. He is not speaking up for the NHS though, he is speaking for his views about it. No one person can speak for the NHS.
