Apparently because of what he said about the committee.
It won't happen of course, but I shall enjoy the dream for a few hours.

He is technically in contempt of parliament again, because of his reaction to the report - “kangaroo court” etc. He has been extremely foolish.
We simply have to move on from this Johnson mania and he should have the dignity to go quietly.
The U.K. must somehow stop this psychodrama and stuff like this latest honours list where Johnson is once again intent on flouting the rules.
Johnson should retire from parliament and spend his time taking potshots at the government from columns in The Telegraph or wherever, earning squillions to fund his extravagant lifestyle.
Boris Johnson resigned with immediate effect, no need to ban/bar him from anywhere.
The best thing that could happen now is a media embargo. He thrives on publicity of any kind, and nothing would wound him more than no air time. If he’s banned for life from becoming an MP again he will make a living out of it, whereas if what he did wasn’t covered he would disappear much quicker. Instead, Carrie’s new baby will be all over the media, and no doubt cooed over on Gransnet too.

This was talk of a lifetime ban. No chance of "hasta la vista"; no access to the Parliamentary estate.

That would be really good too.
It’s a bit worrying that BJ seems to have some kind of hold over the public’s imagination/perception fuelled by the msm. I think there are many other problems that need solving and it’s time to move forward somehow to better government. BJ had his chance. It didn’t work out. End of story please.

Unless of course he applies to stand in another constituency. Presumably it is then that consideration of a bar would happen.
I’m not sure that he could legally face a lifetime ban - I guess from the Tory party, but I assume he could run for another political party.
Ww2 The New Conservatism Party?
He’s getting more and more like Donald Trump ,isn’t he ?
He didn’t quite resign with immediate effect, since he didn’t take the Chiltern Hundred until yesterday. Dorries, whose ‘immediate effect’ was earlier than Johnson’s hasn’t done so yet, to my knowledge.
And my understanding is that it’s not a lifetime ban, that the Privileges Committee could recommend (and which the Commons would have to vote on) but removal of one of the privileges that former MPs enjoy: unfettered access to the Parliamentary estate. Johnson resigning would not, in itself, prevent that. And, since it’s a former MPs’ perk, it wouldn’t apply if he were elected again.
Frankly, if Johnson doesn’t want his parliamentary privileges removed, he should abide by the rules and stop lying.
A lifetime ban from standing is impossible. But Sunak can prevent him from standing for the Tories while in office. He can be banned from the Parliamentary estate (a denial of access to the best club in the world - taxpayer subsidized services). He's going to be a nuisance for a while but life moves on...people forget...allies find other interests...ex-MPs don't count for much...with a bit of luck he might emigrate.
Yes, things move on. Who gives a toss that Blair lied to Parliament now?

I can’t believe you said that maddyone. I think the majority of people still care. Don’t you?
I do actually Casdon. Sorry for upsetting you, I didn’t mean to. I just have the impression that no one cares much about it, and he was still dressed up in his fancy garter robes (I think it was garter robes) recently, Frankly it makes me sick. He’s benefited hugely with his dodgy property portfolio, I believe he/they own over thirty properties now, and he still gets to wear his fancy robes alongside the royals etc. I can’t stand the man. He’s had no punishment at all. At least BJ had to resign.

That doesn’t work for Harry and Meghan tho 😂 it sells papers, can you imagine the media ignoring either them or Boris?!
A media embargo could, rightly, be claimed to be censorship.
Our best bet is that no Conservative constituency will touch him with a barge pole. They know in advance that he is ugovernable, uncontrollable and, while he has his fans, he has shed an awful lot recently and I think, even among his admirers the thought of him as PM again makes them shudder.

He has a hold over my perception ronib because I cannot for the life of me fathom why such a grotesque individual gets such a following.

I’m not at all interested in Blair’s post governmental activities, just as I have no interest in Johnson’s - but I don’t support lying to parliament from any politician, and I do think they should be banned from office if they do,
You’re right Monica, I used the wrong word, I didn’t mean there should be censorship, more that a disinterest in covering irrelevant stories about Johnson’s post governmental exploits would be a very healthy development. Covering every nuance of his life is just fanning the flames of his ego.

Err - I don’t think you can have read what I said properly Primrose53?
Yes they were Primrose and he got away with them. Took us into an illegal war and he got away with it.

Maizie D you realise he’s not the only grotesque individual to have had a very strong following? Kind and caring doesn’t cut it.

He can stand again and unless he is banned from parliament for his behaviour I have no doubt he will. He has the hide of an elephant had the sensitivity of a gnat.
