Missing Titanic Submarine

Thinking about this could almost cause me to hyperventilate! I would never embark on such a dangerous voyage. I know it’s only supposed to be of short duration (not sure how long) but so risky. I feel the same when I hear of Richard Branson’s plans to offer commercial space flights at some astronomical price.

Would anyone on here take part if money was no object?

I hope this sub and the people on board (one just a teenager) are found safe and well but the signs don’t look good.

No way! And think of what charities could do with the obscene $250k pp fare.
I have great admiration for ‘proper’ submariners though - very brave.
No, it’s not looking good unfortunately.

The thoughts of this makes me shudder can't think of anything worse for those poor people. Hope they do find them, have until 12 noon Thursday I believe, before 02 runs out.
No amount of money would persuade me to go under the North Atlantic in a sub. Personally think that the grave that is Titanic, should be left in peace.

Blondiescot Tue 20-Jun-23 09:05:41

Absolutely not! I can't think of anything worse. I'm not claustrophobic, but even the thought being trapped in a submarine underwater gives me the heebie-jeebies. I really hope all those on board are found safe and well, but as you say, it's not looking very promising.

I hope they are found safe but all the money being spent on the rescue of people who are made very aware of the dangers seems wrong to me. Surely they can think of better ways to spend a spare quarter of a million.

Primrose53 Tue 20-Jun-23 09:10:41

My worst nightmare too! I most definitely am claustrophobic and nothing would tempt me to go in that thing.

Fingers crossed we get some good news soon.

5 or 6 very rich men lost in 3,800 metres of water, on a vanity trip.

Hundreds of drowned women and children lying 5,000 metres deep in the Mediterannean, locked in an overcrowded boat, fleeing from misery and poverty.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 20-Jun-23 09:21:34

I agree AGA. The company which runs these ghoulish trips should be charged with the rescue costs.

Daddima Tue 20-Jun-23 09:22:04

I was just watching this

Four hours to get down over two miles, and bolted in from the outside? No thank you.
It would be better if the pressure had got them instantaneously.

Such as, its their money, why should others tell them how to spend it.

Freya5 Tue 20-Jun-23 09:37:12

Should have known, this is turning out to be an us and them discussion. Some are more worthy, boats in the med, than people who are rich. Both suffering a horrible death, possibly .Disgusting.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 20-Jun-23 09:44:04

What a strange interpretation of what has been said Freya.

henetha Tue 20-Jun-23 09:47:10

Never in a million years would I want to go down in one of those submarines, or any kind of sub.
But I would defend the right of those who want to. It's their money. I hope they can be found soon.

karmalady Tue 20-Jun-23 09:51:19

Not looking at all good. The vessel has heavy metal blocks which causes this van-size basic container to sink, when they get down then the metal blocks are ejected one by one and the vessel rises. It is a pity that they felt the voyeuristic need to `see` the titanic, which is after- all a tomb. Electricity is provided by little fan-sized motors

karmalady Tue 20-Jun-23 09:55:26

I do think that a lot of the rescue attempt is down to the challenge of what is really an impossible situation, a learning process in which things can be attempted and logged to determine how successful, or not

I heard that they had masses of documentation to sign with death potential being written several times

Rosie51 Tue 20-Jun-23 09:58:24

I am very claustrophobic and can get affected by a too tight neckline or sleeve cuff. There is no way I could go in a submarine on dry land let alone beneath the sea.
I hope they can be found in time, and I would hope that will be the last of these trips. Not because of the cost per se but because I view the Titanic as a grave not a visitor spectacle.

What a strange interpretation of what has been said Freya.

The way it comes across.

Shinamae Tue 20-Jun-23 10:01:09

It’s actually makes me feel nauseous just thinking about what those people must be going through…
It’s such a confined space with all the fear and terror they must be experiencing . It’s like a nightmare…😖

luluaugust Tue 20-Jun-23 10:01:12

Nothing would persuade me to do this, I also hope they are found in time but whether they can be raised safely I don't know. Lets hope this puts a stop to visiting this graveyard.

M0nica Tue 20-Jun-23 10:03:06

Freya I am sorry you interpreted my post the way you did. My intention was the opposite. To show how regardless of origins and purpose, wealth or poverty, fate treats us all the same.

Since you needed everything spelled out, once on/in the water, the lives of these people and the fates they face/d are the same and they are equally dependent on the skill and humanitarian aid of others.

Where you see division I see humanity brought together in the fates they face and their dependency on others

Grammaretto Tue 20-Jun-23 10:03:46

I cannot imagine what induced them to go.
I had thought they could be rescued but it looks bad

AGAA4 Tue 20-Jun-23 10:27:23

Freya This trip was purely for fun and now others are risking their own lives to save them. You can't equate this with those who are trying to find a better life. Yes they can spend their money as they wish but knowing the danger they gave no thought to those who have had to try to rescue them.

Callistemon21 Tue 20-Jun-23 10:48:57

Not for me!

One of DH's friends was on subs but DH said they were too claustrophobic for him long-term.
I knew someone years ago whose DH was on nuclear submarines and she had no communication at all during the months he was away.

I hope they can be found and brought to the surface safely but it doesn't sound hopeful.

You don't know if these very rich men donate thousands, if not millions, to charity.

It's like saying to someone that they don't actually need a holiday, they should donate the money to help others less well off.

People will always look for extreme adventures.

Smileless2012 Tue 20-Jun-23 10:52:48

The thought of them being trapped somewhere makes my blood run cold. I hope they find them in time but it's a very small vessel in vast ocean.

People risking their lives to save others who have embarked on an activity for fun, happens all the time*AGAA4*. Mountain climbers, cavers etc. and people who need rescuing by the coast guard for a variety of reasons.
