I know the last thread was taken down at the op’s request - but if anyone wants to continue discussing this major news item I’ve started this one.

This is people's lives and it's shocking how the media works. We don't know the full facts, we may never know them, but this trial by media is appalling.

BlueBelle Wed 12-Jul-23 07:12:45

It’s funny how those that think this is an awful thread and shouldn’t be discussed are not only on here but must be reading each post to be able to comment as they do That’s hilarious 😂just as friends chew over things when they are with each other the same happens on here
It’s a group and things will be discussed agreed with, disagreed with, commented on its human nature unless you live an isolated life with no interest in humanity

Just because there is a thread about this it doesn’t stop people bring interested or interacting about other world problems
You can comment on two/ three/ four worries, concerns or interests on different threads no holds barred

Just an afterthought, if certain parties who are regularly commenting here were let loose on our Criminal Justice system, I have no doubt that the clear-up rate for crimes would go through the roof. Sadly, the Rules of Evidence would have to go out of the window at the same time.

The old and female? Blimey.

... do you think we're being chastised grin?

Aren't I allowed my opinion "Dickens". Is only a particular type of gossip allowed? That which destroys others but must not touch you. Do I have to stop suggesting that this conversation has built mountains on what seems to be a complete lack of actual evidence.

We may yet see this played out legally but we haven't yet.

Everyone is allowed an opinion "DaisyAnneReturns".

I'm questioning why you appear to feel the need to frequently police other poster's comments.

I'm confident that GNHQ are monitoring this thread and will make sure that any inappropriately-speculative comments will get deleted.

Matters discussed on News & Politics forums usually derive from news / articles in the news media or broadcasting news. Very few of us I suspect have inside information, nor the factual evidence that lays behind the events and incidents being reported. We discuss, debate and speculate on what we know, and I think most of us, again, are aware that allegations are just that... claims / accusations, and they are not necessarily true.

If you think anyone on here is trying to damage / destroy the reputation of any high-profile individual - or even one who doesn't have a high-profile in the community - then report the post.

I think I must be a bit dumb,I have no idea one little bit who this person might be,I wouldn't really know who has been taken off air,but no doubt the disclosure is imminent .

Likewise bikergran.

I'm in with those who are 'not in the know'.

I'm content to wait for the facts.

Do you have a vested interest in this story, Daisy, or do you just like telling others how to behave?

Nobody has named names or said anything libellous. I’m sure that HQ is monitoring the thread just in case. Nobody will be ‘destroyed’ because of what we say on here. Someone may lose his job because of his own actions, but whether we feel sorry for him or his victims will make no difference to that.

I talk about the general lack of actual evidence and the blood fest which is happening. Are you saying this isn't true or merely that you don't like it being said?

If you were to name names, GN, and you, could be subject to a claim of disproportionate invasion of privacy. You seem to think that simply not braking privacy laws makes you "good people".

You have no facts and some comments seem quite egregious on the basis of no facts. The Sun had not even spoken to the first young adult before they spread their "story" all over their front page. Either that or they chose not to quote them,. They seem to have reported no facts, data or evidence. We do not know if they paid the parents who, in any case, seem to have been prepared to over-ride the young adults request for privacy.

We have new gossip, told yet again to the Sun, not the police. Add to this the source has not been identified so it's veracity cannot be tested and it may have been paid for. All in all, pretty grubby with no facts produced but on which people are happy to feed.

JenniferEccles Wed 12-Jul-23 08:35:01

I see Jeremy Vine is calling on the presenter to name himself to prevent “yet more vitriol being thrown at perfectly innocent colleagues”.
I think it’s unlikely to happen.

lemsip Wed 12-Jul-23 08:41:55

the person is being advised by his lawyers to keep quiet no doubt!
he could of course ignore that advice and clear up the speculation.

I think the man must be mentally ill to have acted in such outrageous out of character way.

Where have I "policed" anyone, Dickens? I have said people have no facts, Is the truth "policing" now? I have called the opinions without facts, gossip but then opinion without facts or data is gossip.

That gossip is not necessarily harmful but it can , and has been know to, destroy lives. You may not like being reminded of that but my comments do not stop you. Indeed they are not expected to stop you, just to let you know that at least one GN member is unhappy with the way the forum is being used.

I hope the name isn’t released yet, the press and tv cameras will
surround the person’s home, they may have family.

Was it the parents of the 20 year old child who took allegations to a police force in April ? they found nothing criminal, then the parents went to BBC, then to the Sun

nanna8 Wed 12-Jul-23 08:50:29

Thread still going- amazing!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 12-Jul-23 08:54:15

the guardian.com has a good article on this today, broken down into five questions for The Sun

Mollygo Wed 12-Jul-23 08:54:28

What interests me is the cry for privacy from the ‘victim’.
I wonder if they realised that because of their age now, anonymity won’t be possible and they would become as famous as the presenter in question.
Unless they become one of the endless celebrities that will affect their job prospects and their future life.

We don’t know it is out of character!

Yes, a staggering example of the infinite capacity of certain mindsets to be able to conjure up complex scenarios out of diddly squat.

FannyCornforth Wed 12-Jul-23 08:58:22

If it is who everyone is saying it is; then it’s extremely out of character

I really think you should hide this thread, it seems to be upsetting you a lot more than it should.

Take a break.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 12-Jul-23 09:01:46

NannaDana have you not watched/listened to any news bulletins, read a newspaper (digital or print) over the last five days?

If so you should be aware that this news item is still getting top billing, politicians are even getting involved. It definitely has a place on the N & P Forum.

We only know anyone’s public persona not what they are like when off air

FannyCornforth Wed 12-Jul-23 09:05:31

Yes, hiding threads which one finds annoying is always a good idea

Anniebach Wed 12-Jul-23 09:12:59

Very much out of character off air

Of course I have, GrannyGravy, and I know as much about the truth of the matter as you do.. which is nothing. I'm also perfectly capable of differentiating between discussing the "news", and constructing fanciful scenarios and theories out of thin air, which is nothing more than pure speculation. Do you see the difference?

NanaDana GN is a discussion Forum, posters discuss and ponder on what is behind the headlines

You are not obligated to take part.
